SDCC 2013: Aspen Splash 2013 Exclusive

Aspen Comics revealed two new Aspen Splash 2013 exclusives for San Diego Comic Con 2013 today. The publisher will feature a special Michael Turner and Peter Steigerwald SDCC cover limited to 250 copies, in addition to an exclusive SDCC cover by Mike DeBalfo and Peter Steigerwald, limited to 200 copies. Both Mike DeBalfo and Peter Steigerwald will be appearing at the Aspen Comics Booth #2321 all weekend long as well.

Earlier in the week, Aspen revealed an exclusive Comic Con International: San Diego 2013 BubbleGun #2 cover by Pasquale Qualano and Peter Steigerwald, and a Fathom: The Elite Saga #1 cover by Joe Benitez and Peter Steigerwald.

Aspen will be unveiling more SDCC exclusives throughout the week in addition to some major announcements regarding their upcoming projects to be shown at the “Ten Years of Aspen Comics” panel on Friday at Comic Con.

Zenescope Entertainment Announces Oz

Zenescope Entertainment has announced plans to publish its newest Grimm Fairy Tales comic book spinoff entitled Oz. Fans of Zenescope’s comics have been looking forward to the company’s re-imagining of this classic story for quite a while as it’s been hinted at in numerous issues over the past two years. Oz will finally make its much-anticipated debut at the 2013 San Diego Comic Con and hit retailer shelves in late July.

Zenescope’s President and co-founder, Joe Brusha, will be handling the writing for the new Oz series. “

Brusha said:

We’re very excited to finally reveal the fourth realm of the Grimm Fairy Tales Universe. We’ve already introduced alternate versions of Neverland and Wonderland and have been planning Oz for such a long time and now we finally get to deliver something epic to our fans. I hope they enjoy reading it as much as we’ve enjoyed creating it.

This modern take on the Oz story retells the classic mythology with a fascinating blend of dark fantasy and action-packed adventure. It begins as the witches of Oz search for a lost weapon of power known as the Veridian Scepter. Their quest ultimately leads them to the unlikeliest of places – the farmlands of Kansas – and specifically to the home of a young woman named Dorothy Gale.

The first issue features interior artwork by newcomer Rolando Neto and covers by superstar artists J Scott Campbell, Artgerm, Eric Basaldua and Ale Garza and is available now for pre-order in Diamond’s May edition of Previews for a July 2013 release.

Amazon Gets into the Comic Book Exclusive Marketplace with Zenescope Art Book

Amazon, the #1 online retailer, is offering an exclusive Zenescope Art book to its customers, which is available for pre-order. The art book, entitled The Art of Zenescope Limited Edition Vol. 1 will be released in September and will feature a plethora of the most sought after, limited edition, convention exclusives. The hardcover collection will also come with a limited edition print.

Zenescope Entertainment is well known in the comic book industry for their popular, and valuable convention exclusives that feature pin-up style artwork from some of the finest cover artists in the industry, including J. Scott Campbell, Eric “Ebas” Basaldua, Greg Horn, Ale Garza, Jamie Tyndall, Anthony Spay, Franchesco and Nei Ruffino to name a few. These exclusives have a strong resale value on the secondary marketplace, and are very limited print runs, usually no higher than 500 copies. Zenescope’s horror twist has allowed them to publish many new artistic interpretations of the classic fairy tale characters.

The art book will have a print run of 2500 copies. There will only be 1750 of this art book available through Amazon, as the other 750 of the print run will feature a different cover, and be made available through the direct market through distribution through Diamond.
