Weta Workshop To Highlight Their Work In Middle-earth At Wizard World Comic Cons in May

The multi-Academy Award winning New Zealand design studio and physical manufacturing facility will show off some of their best work at three Wizard World Comic Con shows in May at its visually striking Exhibitor Booth. Weta Workshop’s body of work includes movies like The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Avatar, District 9, Chappie and many more.

Weta will set up at Wizard World events in Minneapolis (May 1-3), Philadelphia (May 7-10) and St. Louis (May 22-24).

Fans can meet Warren Dion Smith , international multi-award-winning hair and makeup artist at all three shows and have an opportunity to get a pair of Hobbit ears applied by one of the best in the business.

Fans who want to learn more about the makeup and prosthetics craft should also attend the Weta panels where Warren will perform a major Middle-earth makeup transformation on stage while fielding questions from the crowd.

In addition, VIP attendees will receive an exclusive limited edition art print by The Hobbit concept art director and world renowned Tolkien artist John Howe.

Wizard World Minneapolis Attendees to Receive The Walking Dead #1 Variant Cover By Clayton Crain

The Walking Dead #1 Clayton CrainWizard World, Inc. and Skybound have announced that Ghost Rider and X-Force artist Clayton Crain has drawn the eighth in a yearlong series of Limited Edition Exclusive Variant Covers of The Walking Dead #1 comic, to be provided free to all full-price attendees at Wizard World Comic Con Minneapolis, May 1-3.

The exclusive The Walking Dead #1 edition will be produced in extremely limited quantities and is available at registration to fans at the Minneapolis Convention Center only while supplies last. VIP attendees will receive an additional black & white sketch version of the comic.

Crain, who primarily uses digital painting, is also well known for his work with Todd McFarlane as well as with Marvel on Carnage, covers for DC and his unique sketch cover acrylic paintings. He is currently working for Valiant Comics on the popular comic Rai , with writer Matt Kindt. He also continues to develop his painting techniques with acrylic and oil sketchbook covers and commissions.

Stars of The Walking Dead TV series scheduled to attend Wizard World Comic Con Minneapolis include Christian Serratos, Alanna Masterson and Michael Rooker. Other standout celebrities attending include Karl Urban, Gillian Anderson, Debby Ryan, WWE Divas The Bella Twins, Kevin Conroy, Finn Wittrock, Sylvester McCoy and more.

Wizard World Presents: An Evening With Kevin Smith In Minneapolis, Friday, May 1

Kevin SmithKevin Smith, who wrote and directed Clerks, Yoga Hosers and the series Comic Book Men among his many credits, will host “Wizard World Presents: An Evening With Kevin Smith” on May 1 in Minneapolis. Organized in conjunction with Wizard World Comic Con Minneapolis, the live Q&A session will begin at 8 p.m. at the State Theatre (805 Hennepin Avenue) in Minneapolis.

Tickets for “Wizard World Presents: An Evening With Kevin Smith” will be on sale soon via Ticketmaster. Pricing begins at $25.00.

Smith will also help Wizard World Comic Con Minneapolis get underway by appearing with other dignitaries at the second annual festival’s official Ribbon Cutting ceremony at 5 p.m. at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The three-day pop culture convention is set for Friday through Sunday, May 1-3 (Smith will not otherwise appear at the event).

A writer, comedian, podcaster, and film director, Smith has written and directed numerous films, including Dogma, Red State and Tusk, in addition to Clerks, Chasing Amy and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. It is the second trip to Minneapolis for Wizard Worl and the eighth event on the 2015 Wizard World Comic Con calendar.

Matt Smith, Karen Gillan To Attend Wizard World Minneapolis Comic Con; Dual Photo Ops Sunday, May 4

Matt Smith, who recently completed an acclaimed four-year run as the 11th incarnation of the Doctor in the landmark British television series Doctor Who, and Karen Gillan, who portrayed Amy Pond, will appear at the inaugural Wizard World Minneapolis Comic Con. Gillan will attend on Saturday, May 3, and the morning of Sunday, May 4, while Smith is scheduled to appear on Sunday.

Both will greet fans, sign autographs, pose for photo ops and conduct separate interactive Q&As (Gillan on Saturday; Smith on Sunday). They will pose together with fans on Sunday morning. Times for Smih’s and Gillan’s signings, photo ops will be announced shortly.

Smith began his acting career on stage, appearing in various popular London theatrical performances before landing the coveted role in Doctor Who in 2010. He received a BAFTA Award nomination in 2011 and his final episode, on Christmas Day, was BBC America’s largest audience ever, attesting to both the popularity of the series in America and Smith’s success in the role.

The former model Gillan appeared in Series 5-7 of Doctor Who, beginning in 2010, as the new companion to the eleventh Doctor Matt Smith. The Inverness, Scotland, native has added numerous theater roles, starred in the film Not Another Happy Ending last year, is a regular on Adult Swim’s NTSF:SD:SUV and portrays the mercenary Nebula in the upcoming blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy.

Doctor Who fandom is on full display at Wizard World shows. Fans of the series, which celebrated its 50th Anniversary with a highly-rated program that was simulcast by BBC America at Austin Comic Con, cosplay as numerous characters as well as the TARDIS, the space-time vehicle used in the show.

Comics Creators At Wizard World Minneapolis Comic Con May 2-4

Eisner Award Hall of Famer Neal Adams, Mike Grell, Ethan Van Sciver and Bob Layton are at the head of a standout roster of comics creators scheduled to attend the inaugural Wizard World Minneapolis Comic Con, May 2-4 at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

Artist Alley will also be home to notable writers and artists such as Barry Kitson, Kevin Maguire, Doug Wheatley, James O’Barr, Michael Golden, Arthur Suydam, Greg Horn and more than 50 others.

In addition, the first 3,000 VIP attendees will receive an exclusive variant cover of Hulk #1, drawn by Grell. It is the latest in the 2014 series by Marvel Comics and Wizard World. The Black & White sketch version is limited to just 2,500 copies and will be available for sale at the Wizard World Store on the convention floor.

In addition to sketching and signing copies of their works, several of the top creators will conduct informative panels during the three days. Many have also produced exclusive prints distributed free to VIP attendees and available to all fans for purchase at their respective tables.

Hulk #1 Exclusive Variant Cover By Mike Grell For Minneapolis Comic Con

Marvel Comics and Wizard World‘s latest edition of its 2014 series of exclusive variant covers of the best Marvel titles with the unveiling of Hulk #1, drawn by superstar artist Mike Grell. VIP attendees at Wizard World Minneapolis Comic Con, May 2-4 at the Minneapolis Convention Center, will receive a free copy of the limited-edition book at registration.

Grell is scheduled to be on site at the event to sign copies (autograph fees may apply). Leading professional comic grader CGC will also be on hand to accept books for grading and Signature Series.

The colored version of Hulk #1 will be limited to 3,000 copies and provided free at registration to all Wizard World Minneapolis Comic Con VIP attendees, including any celebrity VIP packages. The Black & White sketch version is limited to just 2,500 copies and will be available for sale at the Wizard World Store on the convention floor. Quantities per purchase may be limited.

Grell’s Hulk #1 follows the first three entries, Miracleman #1 and Miracleman #2, both drawn by Eisner Award Hall of Famer Neal Adams for Wizard World Portland Comic Con (Jan. 24-26) and New Orleans Comic Con (Feb. 7-9), respectively, and Wolverine #1, illustrated by noted cover artist Greg Horn, for Wizard World Sacramento Comic Con (March 7-9). Artwork is also complete for upcoming Wizard World shows: Daredevil #1 by Michael Golden for Louisville Comic Con (March 28-30), Wolverine & The X-Men #1 by David Mack for St. Louis Comic Con (April 4-6) and Amazing Spider-Man #1 by John Tyler Christopher for Atlanta Comic Con (May 30-June 1).

Grell knows a thing or two about comics… he’s been in the industry for more than 40 years, writing and drawing iconic strips and characters from Superboy to Tarzan to Batman. Most famously, Grell brought his own interpretation to the Green Arrow series, writing and occasionally drawing a redesigned look for the hero.

Following the shocking events of last month’s Indestructible Hulk finale, Bruce Banner lies at death’s door! If he survives, it won’t be as the Bruce Banner we’ve known! How will the Hulk wreak vengeance on Banner’s assailant? How can he? The series is by writer Mark Waid and artist Mark Bagley.
