Marvel Reveals New Midnight Covers

The all-new, all-disturbing Midnight Universe begins on October 7, and Marvel Comics has unveiled new variant covers for all three debut issues—Midnight Spider-Man #1 by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and ScieTronc, Midnight Fantastic Four #1 by Benjamin Percy and Kev Walker, and Midnight X-Men #1 by Jonathan Hickman and Matteo Della Fonte.

Bringing greater clarity and consistency to the variant cover collecting experience, the Midnight line will debut all-new ongoing variant cover programs. Starting with issue #1, each MIDNIGHT series will feature recurring themes across Covers labeled A-E, along with additional variant covers. Covers revealed today include:

  • MIDNIGHT SPIDER-MAN COVER B BY RYAN STEGMAN, a MIDNIGHT BLOODBATH VARIANT, blood-soaked covers showcasing the terror of the Midnight Universe.
  • MIDNIGHT FANTASTIC FOUR #1 COVER D BY E.M. GIST, a MIDNIGHT HORROR HOMAGE VARIANT, chilling re-creations of iconic horror images.
  • MIDNIGHT FANTASTIC FOUR #1 COVER I BY ROD REIS, an additional variant cover that will also be available as a virgin variant (Cover J).
  • MIDNIGHT X-MEN #1 COVER H BY ALESSANDRO CAPPUCCIO, an additional variant cover spotlighting the Midnight versions of Magneto, Scarlet Witch, and Quicksilver.
  • MIDNIGHT FANTASTIC FOUR #1 AND MIDNIGHT X-MEN #1 COVERS E BY JEEHYUNG LEE, prestige painted covers of the haunting Midnight Universe.

Bad Idea reveals Skottie Young’s twisted It Demands Sacrifice #1 cover

This October, Bad Idea is going to Hell…and Skottie Young is going with them. The publisher has revealed Young’s twisted new cover for It Demands Sacrifice #1, the new horror series from Philip Gelatt, David Yarovesky, artist Adam Pollina, and colorist Dean White.

It Demands Sacrifice begins with a simple nightmare: a family of goats is abducted by a drug-fueled, sex-obsessed satanic hippie cult. But this isn’t your average goat sacrifice. Hundreds of cultists have gathered for a blood-soaked ritual designed to summon something far worse, and the only thing standing between them and Hell on Earth is Bronson, the littlest goat of the family.

Earth’s Mightiest Survivors Assemble! This November, superstar creators Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto reunite after their Eisner-nominated run of Daredevil for a bold new run of Avengers. Fans can get their first look at a lettered preview from Avengers #1, alongside a fresh lineup of variant covers!

Spinning directly out of Avengers: Armageddon, the five-issue limited series by Zdarsky, Delio Diaz, and Frank Alpizar that launched in June, the new ongoing series thrusts Earth’s Mightiest Heroes into a dramatically transformed Marvel Universe. Following their cataclysmic battle against Red Hulk, the Avengers have been disbanded, but Earth still needs to be avenged! A radical lineup of heroes— CAPTAIN MARVEL, SPIDER-MAN, DAREDEVIL, WOLVERINE, LUKE CAGE, and a powerhouse new hero—assemble to protect a broken world that has more reason than ever not to trust them. Once again, the Avengers take center stage in Marvel Comics storytelling, and it all starts here! 

See the team come together in a never-before-seen lettered preview, which will also be featured in the back of select new Marvel releases hitting stands over the next few weeks. Avengers #1 will be the latest Marvel Comics launch to feature True Believers Blind Bags, special sealed bags that contain exclusive variant covers not available for regular ordering, including rare, one-of-a-kind, hand-drawn sketch covers from surprise contributors. Two new Avengers #1 variant covers have been unveiled, including a striking new cover by Adi Granov and a special Marvel Studios variant cover celebrating the release of Avengers: Doomsday. Both are exclusive to True Believers Blind Bags.

This fall the Toxic Avenger will come face to face with his evil duplicate, The Noxious Offender, in a five-part, can’t-miss comic book event extravaganza by writer Matt Bors and art by Felipe Sobreiro. The Toxic Avenger vs. The Noxious Offender will mark the first ever appearance of the Noxious Offender in a comic book series. An evil duplicate of Toxie appears in our dimension… How he came to this main universe, and why, is a mystery—but it seems to relate to Toxie’s long-lost estranged dad, who left him and his mother when he was five, suddenly showing up trying to be involved in his life. Meanwhile Toxie’s girlfriend Yvonne is pregnant with Toxie’s mutant baby and the two are deciding to become young parents. Toxie wants to become a father—and a good one—but first he must confront his dark side, who begins ruling Tromaville in his name and changing the rules.   •  Emma Frost meets Miss Piggy in Annie Wu’s Muppet Variant Cover for X-Men United #7, part of a series of covers celebrating the 50th anniversary of “The Muppet Show.” This glamorous—and formidable—duo will also team up in Chip Zdarsky and Pete Woods’ story in The Muppets Take the Marvel Universe #1.
  • This September, Marvel’s Stormbreakers celebrate the season in new Fall Fantasies Variant Covers, featuring Marvel heroes embracing their favorite fall traditions. Jonas Scharf’s newly revealed Black Cat #14 cover shows Felicia Hardy and some feline friends frolicking through a pile of colorful leaves.
  • Stephanie Phillips and Lee Garbett’s hit new Daredevil run continues in Daredevil #6, kicking off a new arc, “Of Moles & Owls,” as Daredevil is caught in the crossfire of a deadly new crime war. The arc features interior art by special guest artist Flaviano who also drew connecting covers for Daredevil #6-7 spotlighting the villains Daredevil will face.
  • Spinning out of Avengers: Armageddon, Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto’s new run of Avengers launches this November. The debut issue will be the latest comic available in True Believers Blind Bags. Iconic artist Mr Garcin delivers a show-stopping variant cover in his signature collage style that features images of the original team lineup within the Avengers logo with images of the all-new lineup surrounding it. Garcin’s cover will be a regular orderable cover.
  • Announced at San Diego Comic-Con, Friendly Neighborhood Mary Jane is a new limited series following Mary Jane Watson in the aftermath of Queen in Black. One of the covers shown was by Peach Momoko, part of the visionary artist’s new Momo-Tone Variant Cover collection. These painted covers will arrive in shops this November and the full announcement and more of covers in the collection will be revealed in the weeks ahead.

Marvel reveals more Amazing Spider-Man #1000 covers

The countdown to Amazing Spider-Man #1000 continues today with the unveiling of the final batch of variant covers! 

On sale September 16, the highly anticipated milestone issue, destined to take its place in comic book history, delivers both a major turning point for Joe Kelly’s acclaimed run, followed by an incredible lineup of anniversary stories celebrating Spider-Man’s legacy. The landmark issue will feature two main covers, one from each of the current run’s lead artists. Legendary artist John Romita Jr. joins acclaimed illustrator Paolo Rivera for a stunning painted cover, while modern superstar Pepe Larraz delivers a striking traditional piece. Both artists are also contributing variant covers for the issue. Larraz’s variant cover was revealed last month, while Romita Jr.’s cover, one of the artist’s signature “hero in rain” pieces, is revealed today.

Amazing Spider-Man #1000 will also feature a spectacular lineup of variant covers from some of the industry’s most celebrated artists. Revealed is a stunning new piece by Skan commemorating Local Comic Shop Day, along with an epic four-part connecting cover by Todd Nauck that will also run on Amazing Spider-Man #1001-1003. Plus, a rare archived piece by legendary Spider-Man co-creator Steve Ditko will be featured as a Hidden Gem Variant cover. Available in a newly colored version by Dean White or in its original black and white, this pinup artwork has never before been used as a cover or printed in a comic, making it a must-have for Spidey fans!

Also unveiled today is a Muppets Variant Cover by Paco Medina, part of a cover collection celebrating the 50th anniversary of “The Muppet Show.”

The previously announced anniversary story, “Tears of the Spider-Queen,” that sees iconic artists Frank Miller and Peach Momoko collaborate for the first time, is also spotlighted on duo’s newly revealed variant cover.

One of the issue’s special anniversary stories comes from two renowned Amazing Spider-Man creators, writer J.M. DeMatteis and artist Humberto Ramos. Their story “Requiem of a Goblin” is spotlighted on Ramos’ newly revealed variant cover.
