Horror comes to a Galaxy Far, Far Away in Star Wars: Dark Droids

The future of Star Wars comics was revealed at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023! Current Star Wars storytellers Charles Soule, Ethan Sacks, Alyssa Wong, Cavan Scott, and Marc Guggenheim joined Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski and Senior Lucasfilm Creative Executive Matt Martin to reveal the upcoming sagas gracing the pages of Marvel’s hit Star Wars comics including “Dark Droids,” an ambitious new event launching this summer!

Following recent events like “War of the Bounty Hunters” and “Crimson Reign,” Star Wars: Dark Droids will be spearheaded by Charles Soule who will write the main limited series alongside artist Luke Ross. Launching in August with Star Wars: Dark Droids #1, the event will also spin off into new series and tie into the four ongoing series that are currently bridging the gap between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi films: Star Wars, Star Wars: Darth Vader, Star Wars: Doctor Aphra, and Star Wars: Bounty Hunters. “Dark Droids” will be a rare horror-fueled Star Wars epic set that erupts when a new threat is unleashed throughout the galaxy, corrupting droids, cyborgs, and everything in-between!

Who or what is the Scourge — and why is no droid safe? As a corruption spreads from one droid to the next, the Rebel Alliance and the Empire both face chaos! What role does Ajax Sigma from last year’s Star Wars: Revelations one-shot play in all of this? And whose side is he on?

This year, Marvel’s annual Women’s History Month celebration will extend to its comic titles set in a galaxy, far, far away! Visionary comic artist Peach Momoko has produced eleven gorgeous Star Wars Women’s History Month Covers that will grace all of Marvel’s Star Wars series in March. In her signature style, Momoko brings to life a variety of Star Wars characters who have inspired fans for generations across films, comics, and more! 

Here are the characters that will be spotlighted:

  • Amilyn Holdo, Resistance leader known for her brave sacrifice in Star Wars: The Last Jedi

  • Leia, the groundbreaking icon is depicted in the Boussh disguise she used to infiltrate Jabba’s Palace in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi 
  • Matty, a Jedi Padawan helping Vildar Mac in the pages of Star Wars: The High Republic
  • Nakano Lash, a Nautolan bounty hunter who once mentored Beilert Valance and recently resurfaced in the pages of Star Wars: Bounty Hunters
  • Sabé, loyal handmaiden of Padmé Amidala and currently in an uneasy alliance with Darth Vader in the pages of his ongoing solo series

Mateus Manhanini celebrates Star Wars’ Sana Starros, Mace Windu, Finn, and more for Star Wars Black History Month Covers

In 2023, Marvel’s Black History Month celebration will extend to a galaxy far, far away! February will see the debut of ten variant covers by superstar cover artist Mateus Manhanini that highlight Black heroes from throughout the Star Wars franchise, including characters from Star Wars films as well as original Star Wars characters that debuted in the pages of Marvel Comics. Known for his breathtaking covers for Marvel’s current Wakanda limited series, Manhanini brings this collection of beloved icons, fan-favorite characters, and upcoming stars to life in his bold, eye-catching style. The covers will grace all of Marvel’s Star Wars comics releases in February, giving fans a chance to collect them each week.

Here is a list of the characters that will be spotlighted:

  • Lando Calrissian, legendary character who first appeared in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
  • Mace Windu, revered Jedi and member of the Jedi High Council known for his epic feats throughout the prequel trilogy
  • Finn, former First Order stormtrooper turned hero of the resistance from Star Wars: The Force Awakens
  • Jannah, former First Order stormtrooper turned freedom fighter from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
  • Greef Karga, the Bounty Hunters Guild leader from Star Wars: The Mandalorian
  • Sana Starros, the breakout character from Marvel’s Star Wars comics who will headline her first solo series in February
  • Phel Starros, Sana’s brother who will make his first appearance in the Star Wars: Sana Starros comic series
  • Keeve Trennis, the young Jedi who starred in Marvel’s first Star Wars: The High Republic comic series 
  • Oliviah Zeveron, the Jedi Knight who will play a major role in Marvel’s current Phase II Star Wars: The High Republic comic series
  • Lt. Haydenn, Imperial officer under the command of Darth Vader who recently debuted in Marvel’s Star Wars: Bounty Hunters comic series and is on track to have a dramatic showdown with Beilert Valance in upcoming issues
