Graphic Policy’s Top Comic Picks this Week!

Wednesdays (and Tuesdays) are new comic book day! Each week hundreds of comics are released, and that can be pretty daunting to go over and choose what to buy. That’s where we come in

Each week our contributors choose what they can’t wait to read this week or just sounds interesting. In other words, this is what we’re looking forward to and think you should be taking a look at!

Find out what folks think below, and what comics you should be looking out for this week.

Action Comics #1051 (DC Comics) – The comic kicks off the new direction for the series focused on the entire Superman family and we’re excited what it brings and where it goes.

Archie vs. the World (Archie Comics) – A new spin on Archie is a bit Mad Max and a little Fist of the North Star. We’re all intrigued.

Bulls of Beacon Hill #1 (AfterShock) – A gay son wants to run for city council but must deal with his mobster father.

Darkwing Duck #1 (Dynamite Entertainment) – The classic character is back and we’re beyond excited. Let’s get dangerous!

Gargoyles #2 (Dynamite Entertainment) – The first issue was amazing showing depth beyond a comic based on a cartoon for kids. We’re hoping the series keeps it going.

Once Upon a Time at the End of the World #3 (BOOM! Studios) – One of many post apocalyptic tales but it’s focus on its two characters and the art delivering so much depth and detail to the world keeps the story focused and stands out.

Plush #3 (Image Comics) – The series has been utterly bizarre and beyond funny with its twisted cannibal furries. No idea where it’s going but if it can keep up the laughs, we’re good with it.

Sins of Sinister #1 (Marvel) – The event kicks off as we see Sinister’s plans play out and maybe get a bit out of hand.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin – Lost Years #1 (IDW Publishing) – The Last Ronin was entertaining and we’re interested in seeing where it goes with some new releases set in that storyline.

Zombicide: Day One #1 (Source Point Press) – The popular board game comes to comics and we want to see if it can stand out from all of the zombie comics and how it incorporates the game experience into the story.

What happens when the most twisted mastermind in the Marvel Universe finally achieves his greatest ambition? Find out this January in Sins of Sinister!

The upcoming X-MEN saga will purge readers into a terrifying new Marvel age brought about by Mister Sinister’s recent machinations and today, fans can see what’s to become of their favorite characters in this universe-melting X-event! Unfolding in three limited series—Immoral X-Men, Storm & The Brotherhood of Mutants, and Nightcrawlers—the story will be told across three time periods. Artists Paco Medina, Andrea Di Vito, and Alessandro Vitti will each tackle a different era taking us 10 years, 100 years, and 1000 years into this dark future!

Among the YEAR 10 designs are Storm as she adopts Magneto’s signature style to defend what’s left of Arakko from Sinister’s reach, Captain America after he falls victim to Sinister’s corruption, and a mutant chimera that melds Nightcrawler and Wolverine. The YEAR 100 designs reveal a mysterious new replacement for Cable’s trademark techno-organic arm, a cruel fate for Nightcrawler, and a new look for Sinister himself. Lastly, the YEAR 1000 designs introduce two new characters who will play pivotal roles in the event, Ironfire and Auntie Fortune, and the long-awaited return of Rasputin from Jonathan Hickman’s House of X/Powers of X!

Sins of Sinister will be written by three of mutantkind’s current architects: Kieron Gillen, Al Ewing, and Si Spurrier. The trio of writers have put their current X-Men titles on hold as they join forces to create a horrifying timeline that promises to make the Age of Apocalypse look like the X-Men Swimsuit Special!

Marvel’s 2023 Stormbreaker class kicks off the New Year with variant covers

NYCC 2022: Marvel maps out its 2023 events

At New York Comic Con, Marvel revealed a map of events to come in 2023 through the summer. While some of these were known, there’s a few that are new and have only been teased up to this point.

AVENGERS ASSEMBLE

Visionary writer Jason Aaron brings his nearly five year run on Avengers to an incredible end. Joined by artists Bryan Hitch, Javier Garrón, and Aaron Kuder, Aaron will tie together his work on Avengers, Avengers Forever, and the Avengers of 1,000,000 in a multiverse-spanning saga that sees the Avengers go to war against an unprecedented army of villains and prove why they’re the Mightiest Heroes of All Earths!

DARK WEB

The two spurned clones of the Marvel Universe, Madelyne Pryor and Ben Reilly, team up as Goblin Queen and Chasm to unleash their revenge in this Spider-Man and X-Men crossover that pays off decades of comic book storytelling! The dramatic event will fan the flames of the classic Inferno crossover and impact Spider-Man, the X-Men, Venom, Ms. Marvel, and more in a series of tie-in issues and limited series.

SINS OF SINISTER

Mister Sinister’s devious machinations yield the darkest Marvel Comics future to date in this universe-melting X-Men event.
