Treasure Island Sets Sail in an Immersive Live-Action Graphic Novel Experience

Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic adventure returns this September with Treasure Island Reimagined: Jane Hawkins and the Pirate’s Gold, an original graphic novel and live theatrical event from playwright, director, producer, and writer Jason Neulander.

Developed alongside artist Johnny Dombrowski, colorist Lee Duhig, and letterer David Hutchison, the adaptation places Jane Hawkins at the center of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic swashbuckling adventure.

On the western shores of England in 1754, twelve-year-old Jane Hawkins lives a quiet life at a seaside inn until a mysterious traveler arrives carrying a dangerous secret. Before long, she is swept into a world of pirates, buried treasure, mutiny, and adventure.

The live theatrical production brings the graphic novel to life through Neulander’s signature live-action graphic novel format. During the performance, more than 1,200 comic-book panels are projected on screen while a cast of three performers provides every character’s voice and sound effects live before the audience. The production also features an original score by composer Sam Lipman and sound design by Buzz Moran.

Recommended for ages 12 and up, Treasure Island Reimagined: Jane Hawkins and the Pirate’s Gold releases September 18, 2026, alongside the world premiere of its live theatrical production at Austin’s historic State Theatre (719 Congress Avenue). Following its Austin debut, the production will tour more than twenty venues across the United States, from Anchorage to New York.

Red Stylo Announces an OPEN CALL for a “Jekyll & Hyde” Double-Sided Anthology

Red Style has been putting out numerous anthologies and they have announced their latest. The theme this year is a call-back to Red Stylo’s literary roots: A Soul Divided/Caged in Flesh, an anthology of original comic stories inspired by The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, by Robert Louis Stevenson.

This will be the 7th book in the Red Stylo Presents series of anthologies, with a diabolical twist. Just as Jekyll and Hyde do battle for a single body, A Soul Divided/Caged in Flesh will be a double-sided, dueling collection of stories, with one-half inspired by the tortured Dr. Jekyll and the other entirely devoted to the abominable Mr. Hyde. There will be no middle ground. The two halves will exist together, each fighting for supremacy, but caged tightly in one collection of original works inspired by Stevenson’s horror classic.

Red Stylo has lots of information that you can find at their site and are looking more for “inspired by” than adaptations of the classic work. There’s no limit to the actual genre giving creators an impressive amount of room to work with. You’re also not limited as to your pitch, you can do both! Also, first timers are welcome!

The open call ends February 15th.
