Top Pick: Seven to Eternity #3 (Image) – The first two issues told a lot of story in such a short time. More comics could learn from this. The first issue set up the legacy of the family name and the big bad, and the second introduced us to him and then a whole new band of characters. Let’s see what Remender has planned for the third issue! So far this series has been awesome.IVX #0 (Marvel) – Death of X did not fully satisfy me, but the surprise ending did. Let’s hope this series is a lot better, as it is leading us into the new Inhuman and X-Men titles coming this spring. I am hopeful that Lemire and Soule come through big here for this event and get people excited for what’s to come.

Great Lakes Avengers #2 (Marvel) – The first issue was so fun and goofy, and I loved it. The art by Robson is fantastic, and the jokes by Gorman worked well. The entire premise is ridiculous and it just makes it better. This isn’t even a b level team of Marvel heroes, but that doesn’t make it any less enjoyable of a premise. I highly recommend this if you’re looking for something light and fun.
Batman Annual #1 (DC Comics) – DC is bringing in all of the bat writers on the annual. I usually don’t get very excited for annuals, but I am for both this and Superman hitting the same day. This book will have Snyder, King, Dini, Orlando, and Scott Wilson writing with Riley Rossmo and Neal Adams on art. I am hyped!
Saga #40 (Image) – If you haven’t read Saga yet, please go start. This is what is arguably the best comic out today. I am eager to see where Vaughn and Staples takes us this issue, as we follow these incredible characters on their wild adventures. This book can make you laugh, cry, and smile all in one issue.

Top Pick: Savage #1 (Valiant) – I can sum up why this is awesome in three words: Tarzan meets dinosaurs. It also looks savagely brilliant.
Batman Annual #1 (DC Comics) – Paul Dini and Scott Snyder writing Batman all in one book? Sounds ideal.
Conan The Slayer #5 (Dark Horse) – A consistent story that not enough people are talking about. If you’re a fan of sword and sorcery then you owe it to yourself to check this out.
Old Man Logan #14 (Marvel) – It’s been awhile since I enjoyed a solo Wolverine series as much as I have been enjoying this. A new arc starts this issue, and I’m pretty excited to dig in.
Revolution #5 (IDW Publishing) – A left field surprise for me; I can’t wait to see how this epic crossover ends.

COPRA Round Four (Bergen Street Press) – If you haven’t been reading Michel Fiffe’s series you’re missing out on some of the best comics out there. The indie series is collected here in the fourth trade and it’s worth every penny. The series is best described as an indie Suicide Squad and it’s absolutely awesome. This is the only series I buy single issues and the trades.
Fish Eye #1 (Scout Comics) – The publisher has been putting out some fantastic comics and this new series is well worth checking out. The concept is about a cop who is on a reality show whose ratings are slipping and he has to protect his family from a group of killers. Sounds interesting!
The Skeptics #2 (Black Mask Studios) – The first issue was solid taking place during the Cold War and featuring con-men pretending to be psychics to fool the US government. It’s a crazy concept but the style and characters have me coming back and been looking forward to this one.
Inhumans vs X-Men #0 (Marvel) – I’m a sucker for Marvel’s events and this first issue is pretty solid. It catches up new readers while also setting up some new stuff as well.
The Revisionist #6 (Aftershock Comics) – Time traveling entertainment and I seriously have no idea where it’s all going. With an 80s action film flair, this is one to read from the beginning, it’s so good.

Top Pick: Fight Club 2 Library Edition (Dark Horse) – This was an amazing miniseries that stood up to the awesomeness of the book and the film. David Mack’s killer covers and Cameron Stewart’s art makes this hardcover edition worth having as a keepsake and an amazing read worth going back to time and time again. It’s a great sequel to an already iconic story and having it in hardcover form makes it a nice coffee table book so you can turn all your friends on to the magic.
Harley Quinn #5 (DC Comics) -The baddest chick is back in a new issue. This is the start of a new story arc ” Eat To This Beat”. We get to follow Harley on an undercover mission through NYC punk scene and that’s sure to be a fun ride and a super interesting arc. Excited is an understatement.
Shade, The Changing Girl #1 (DC Comics) – Intergalactic body jumper, a female lead, high school drama and more await in this new take on a unique series from DC. I’m hella interested in where this story goes because, the idea of someone trying to escape madness and getting trapped in the body of bully that everyone hates is a fun twist. I’m excited to see all the twists and turns that can happen when nothing is what it seems.
Wynonna Earp #8 (IDW Publishing) – The struggle is real for a werewolf trying to protect his family from the criminal pack of werewolves he ripped off. Lucky for Ibob that Black Badges baddest team has his back, with Val, Wynonna, Haught, Dolls , Smitty and, Doc on his protection detail. But, Ibob might have to step up and help in the fight because when things go wrong family and friends have to look out for each other and take no prisoners.
Jessica Jones #1 (Marvel) – Welcome to the present! A decade later Jessica Jones is back and ready slay with her PI gig. Things might be a little different but, Jess is still the same and that’s a good thing because I’m sure this series will keep us on our toes and get us ready for the next season on Jessica Jones on Netflix. 2018 seems like forever but, this should be the fix we all need.

Top Pick: A&A: The Adventures of Archer & Armstrong #8 (Valiant) – Always a pleasure to read, this series has become one of my favourite. The current story featuring a travelling circus of Armstrong clones has been an absolute blast, with just enough stabs at a typically standard superhero comic to make it to the top of the list.
Black #1 (Black Mask Studios) – It’s hard to understate how much of an impact this comic could have with it’s tale of a young black man shot by police, before he wakes up with superpowers. In a world where only black people have superpowers. This comic should have some significant buzz about it, but is it worth the hype? We’ll find out Wednesday.
Bloodshot Reborn #18 (Valiant) – I’m as surprised as you are that this is here the week after issue #17 came out, but it makes sense. The story wasn’t quite over for the Bloodshot gang, and a second issue of this comic in as many weeks isn’t a bad thing. Especially when the Bloodshots are stranded on a dingy in the middle of the ocean.
Green Lanterns #8 (DC Comics) – DC’s finest title right now. This series has gotten me excited about Green Lantern comics for the first time in a decade. The chemistry between Simon and Jessica echoes all the very best buddy cop movies, and their platonic relationship has developed very naturally over the course of the first seven issues.One of the very few comic books that I’m happy about the bi-weekly shipping schedule, but as ever with such a shipping schedule, I really hope that the quality keeps up with it.
Intertwined #1 (Dynamite Entertainment) – A kung-fu noir tale set in the 70’s? Sign me up.
Revolution #2 (IDW Publishing) – This is a comic that’s the fantasy of any kid who played with their Transformers and G.I. Joes at the same time. The kicker? The first issue was awesome, even if you haven’t been following the comic of the properties involved.

Top Pick: Black #1 (Black Mask Studios) – I’ve read it. I’ve reviewed it. It lives up to my high expectations and really delivers an entertaining comic that is also relevant.
Death of X #1 (Marvel) – Filling in the gap of what happened post Secret Wars and when we came into the new Marvel Universe, Death of X will let us know what set the Inhumans and X-Men on a collision course.
Jessica Jones #1 (Marvel) – Jones returns to her own series and it’s far overdue. At this point the question is if the series will live up to expectations?
Midnighter and Apollo #1 (DC Comics) – A follow up to Steve Orlando’s excellent Midnighter, the mini-series reunites this superpowered power couple.
Romulus #1 (Image Comics) – Written by Bryan Hill with art by Nelson Blake II, this series has been on my radar ever since Hill mentioned it on our podcast. Now, I finally get to see what the buzz is about and Anthony has more details below.

Black #1 (Black Mask Studios) – It has been repeatedly said but Black Mask Studios releases titles that are always intriguing, fresh and deserving of a wider scope of people’s comic radar. Black suggest a what if story that puts a focus on a topic that is unfortunately not new but being more publicized as an influx of stories of police brutality against black individuals rises. What if only black people had superpowers? There needs to be more diverse titles like Black with a creative team like writer Kwanza Osajyefo, co-creator and designer Tim Smith III, artist Jamal Igle and cover artist Khary Randolph.
Moonshine #1 (Image Comics) – A crime story set in the prohibition era that includes a werewolf? With the creative team of Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso (100 Bullets) back together, this is an absolute must buy.
Paper Girls #10 (Image Comics) – The second arc comes to a close. Paper Girls is one of those titles that are a continuous treat to read, fleshing out the characters and weirdness of time travel all with a helping of humour each and every month.
Romulus #1 (Image Comics) – From writer Bryan Hill (Postal) and artist Nelson Blake II, Romulus sounds like one of those titles that has potential to be a big hit. A woman named Ashlar is on a mission to fight against a secret organization that trained and betrayed her. With an awesome sounding lead, secret organizations, and a manipulated past in need of a present day reality check, Romulus has a lot of promise.
A&A: The Adventures of Archer and Armstrong #8 (Valiant) – Archer and Armstrong look to continue to fight against a clone of Armstrongs from a local circus. A&A never fails to be entertaining and hilarious and since this is the last part of this circus of nightmares, it will be very interesting to see what exactly will be found out about Armstrong’s wife, setting up the next arc.

Talking Comics – The Wicked + The Divine 1831
Explosions rip across the Earth—and all signs of blame point to Optimus Prime and the Transformers! G.I. Joe refuses to go quietly—and they assemble heroes big enough to stop the invaders! Action Man and M.A.S.K. fight for humanity—but where do ROM and the Micronauts stand?
The bi-weekly event kicks off here bringing together properties that have been around for over 30 years in some cases. As a kid I always mixed my toys having Transformers right along with G.I. Joe and M.A.S.K., though the scales didn’t always work out. Now, on the page on this comic we get to see it all come together. It’s not all smooth though and there’s some odd questions. Things indicate that the various comics in IDW’s line have all happened, and this just brings them more together. So G.I. Joe was around the entire time various Transformers events took place, but it’s now that they’re actually focused on them. It feels a bit smashed together and a little bumpy, not as smooth as I’d have thought or hoped.
When it comes to the properties coming together they make sense. G.I. Joe is pivoting to now deal with the Transformer threat now that Optimus has laid claim to Earth. ROM is running around killing folks, which comes into play… M.A.S.K. and Micronauts? We still have to wait and see how that fits in. This first issue lays out the Joe mission as Optimus and his team attempt to prove they’re only there to help.
The story itself is a bit clunky. What prompts the initial fight feels like it’d violate the Joe’s rule of engagement and the initial thing that kicks it all off involving Ore-13 feels a lot like a McGuffin. And ROM’s introduction feels like it comes out of nowhere and just happens. with little explanation for new readers. It’s a “what the hell was that!?” moment that doesn’t feel natural, it feels random. Still, there’s something that brings me back to my childhood about it all.
The art is ok. I love the art on the various Transformers series and the previous volumes of G.I. Joe. This feels like a step back from what we’ve seen. We’ve seen better.
The first issue is ok. There’s nothing terribly wrong with it, but there’s also nothing that really feels like things are natural. It feels mandated in a weird way, not an organic culmination. Luckily we don’t have long to wait for the next installment and as far as the bigger picture I’m sure it’ll work out. Going in I was excited, but right now I’m a bit tepid about it all.

Top Pick: Britannia #1 (Valiant) – Britain in the Dark Ages as a story setting has always fascinated me (in fact, I just picked up a book set around Ceaser’s first invasion today), so when I found out that Valiant were publishing a comic written by Peter Milligan with Juan Jose Ryp and Jordie Bellaire attached to it, I knew I’d be reading it. I know very little about the story, honestly, other than it features a Roman detective, but I can’t wait to dive in.
Batman #7 (DC Comics) – The best part about the biweekly shipping is that I don’t need to wait a whole month to get into the next issue, and with the way Tom King set up the next arc, that’s a very good thing.
Black Hammer #3 (Dark Horse) – This is a bit of a cheat, because I’ve already read the book, but I don’t hear enough chatter about Jeff Lemire’s story about Golden Age heroes that have been stuck in a purgatory-like town (though some are adapting better than others) for ten years. It’s a gripping tale, and this left me wanting more.
Phantom TP Vol. 01 Danger In The Forbidden City (Hermes) – The Phantom is character that will always have a soft spot in my geekdom – and while there have certainly been some bad comics released featuring the Ghost Who Walks, there have been some great ones a well (Dynamites Last Phantom is one of the best I’ve read recently). So when I found out about this collection, written by Peter David, I got pretty excited.
Vote Loki #4 (Marvel) – Will Loki become President? Will he get punched in the face? Will he tell the truth at any point? I have no idea, but I can’t wait to find out.

Cyborg # 1 (DC Comics) – We already got a preview of what John Semper Jr. (award-winning writer who previously worked in animation on Spider-Man: The Animated Series and Static Shock), has in store for Cyborg in DC’s latest Rebirth iteration, and I am digging it. It is my top pick this week.
Horizon #3 (Image) – This unique twist on an alien incursion against Earth is impressive.
I Hate Fairyland #9 (Image) – It’s good for laughs, and I could use some.
Seven to Eternity #1 (Image) – Rick Remender has become one of my favorite writers in this new digital golden age of comics (although he can be depressing at times); plus, this new sci-fi fantasy western has echoes of The Magnificent Seven.
The Vision #11 (Marvel) – Forget the latest Batman Crossover event, this is the Tom King book everyone should be reading right now.

This is another great week for comics. Brik #3 deserves honorable mention since it didn’t make the cut but, my review of it should be up soon. This time around my picks are DC heavy because they’ve come out of the gate swinging.
Top Pick: The Wicked + The Divine 1831 One Shot (Image) – Wic/Div goes back in time to solve a mystery. It’s my top pick because one shots are always fun and Wic/Div is always good. Plus ,it won’t be in volume #4 so there’s no reason to wait.
Raven #1 (DC Comics) – The comic is promising a teen age Raven I’m San Fransisco exploring her human side trying to make it through high school. She gets thrown into a dark side version of a Nancy Drew mystery when a student disappears and she gets to face some true evil.
Injustice: Gods Among Us Year Five #18 (DC Comics) – This issue gives us Deathstroke joining the unholy superman and Luthor team up to open portals and end the war that’s been brewing. There’s even a pop up visit by Raven to keep everyone on their toes and watching their backs.
Suicide Squad Most Wanted: El Diablo & Boomerang #2 (DC Comics) – One of my fave bad guys turned good El Diablo is now working with Checkmate and Boomerang finally gets something interesting to do avoiding even badder guys and trying get out of Latin America alive.
Carnage #12 (Marvel) – My fave baddy, who I know will never have the stand alone movie I want, has the Anti-Carnage squad in his crosshairs. I know it’s about to go down but, I’m on the fence about who to root for.

Top Pick: Revolution #1 (IDW Publishing) – This is it! All of my favorite childhood properties are coming together as part of one comic universe. Transformers, G.I. Joe, Micronauts, ROM, MASK, yes, yes, yes please! Hasbro has also indicated we’ll be seeing all of this in future movies too, so this will give us an indication as to what to expect there as well. My five year old self is so excited!
Britannia #1 (Valiant) – Peter Milligan with Juan Jose Ryp and Jordie Bellaire take Valiant out of their spandex-ish superhero zone giving us the world’s first detective set in Britain during the Dark Ages.
Invisible Republic #11 (Image Comics) – If you haven’t been reading this series and you’re a fan of sci-fi (and especially politics), you’re missing out. This issue kicks off the third arc as Maia becomes embroiled in the civil war raging on.
Civil War II #5 (Marvel) – Marvel’s event has been very hit and miss, but I’m intrigued to see what happens next.
Seven to Eternity #1 (Image) – The team of Rick Remender and Jerome Opena sold me on this one. I’m not sure how to describe it, but it’s one to check out.

Top Pick: Seven to Eternity #1 (Image) – Rick Remender has been writing some of the most fresh and exciting comics on the stands. Seven to Eternity looks to be another intriguing sci-fi/fantasy concept with some absolute gorgeous art from Jerome Opena and Matt Hollingsworth. The plot focuses on Adam, whose crossroad journey is split by a major decision between killing the world’s evil God or accepting the offer being extended by the same deity.
Black Hammer #3 (Dark Horse) – Black Hammer #3 looks to focus on the character of Barbalien, digging into some of his past. Each issue so far has been a treat to read as Jeff Lemire has been providing some poetic, deconstructive conversations around the group of heroes, with an art style from Dean Ormston and Dave Stewart that really provides a parallel of emotions between the warm nostalgia of the past and the cold, hard present reality.Wicked & Divine 1831 One Shot: Looking to step away from the main storyline, this one shot, diving into the past (Victorian Pantheon?) features the wonderful art of Stephanie Hans. There has always been this floating curiosity in the main series in regards to past iterations of the Pantheon so it will be very interesting to get some back story on characters unfamiliar to the present time being focused on.

I Hate Fairyland #9 (Image) – I Hate Fairyland is always an entertaining read within a very vibrant, colourful, violent world. It’s continuously fun to see the world being expanded with graceful playfulness and tongue in cheek wit.
