Exclusives for shops are nothing new and Funko is no stranger to them. Their promotion with Baskin-Robbins though is leaving some collectors very angry and with a bad taste in their mouth (I avoided the lactose intolerance pun, so points for me).
Tied in to the season premiere of Stranger Things 3, Baskin-Robbins shops are receiving an Exclusive Pop! Television: Stranger Things Steve figure and stores are taking advantage of it.
While it was expected to retail for $12.99 like normal pops, stores are setting their own prices and we’ve seen up to $80. $24.99, $29.99, $49.99 are not uncommon and that’s lead to collectors voicing their displeasure and comparing Funkos to the similar “jump the shark” moment Beanie Babies experienced when stores began to jack up prices.
Is this the moment collectors rise up and some changes to exclusives are made? So far, Funko and Baskin-Robbins have been quiet about the situation but we’ll update if they make any statements.
