NOVA Open’s Ticket Sale Relaunches April 22

NOVA Open

After a system meltdown during the initial sale, NOVA Open has announced that it is re-opening ticket/event sales on April 22 at 8pm ET.

The convention has updated with the news that Tabletop.Events has successfully identified and corrected the issue that caused the technical issues last week. The convention is working closely with Tabletop.Events to put into place some additional safeguards for April 22 to ensure a smooth operation with more on that later.

An audit of carts to determine whether it will be possible to retain them is currently going on. If that’s not possible, the ticket sales will start clean.

In order to ensure that everyone has a fair shot at SuperNOVA passes, they are adding 10 more SuperNova badges to make up for those that were purchased during launch last week before sales closed.

They’ve promised more to come as to the next sale date and prep going into making sure it’s successful.

NOVA Open Halts Convention Sales After System Meltdown

NOVA Open

The ticketing/event launch for NOVA Open is notorious at this point. It feels like it rarely goes smoothly and this year it completely broke down leaving attendees and the convention frustrated. NOVA Open is a popular tabletop gaming convention held in Washington, DC each year bringing thousands of gamers together for some pretty prestigious tournaments involving everything from Games Workshop to Infinity, Magic: The Gathering, Star Wars, and more.

With an intended launch at 8pm ET, the system, managed by Tabletop Events, opened soon after the official time and immediately ground to a halt. This has happened in the past with it easing up after a bit. This year however, that wasn’t the case.

Sales were halted leaving many wondering what happens next. NOVA Open is interesting in that there are two sought after tiers that cost more but also come with swag and each are limited. One tier seemed to be sold out and the second highest level’s status is unknown.

Our experience was a negative one, with errors being thrown and 504 timeouts. Eventually out cart showed 8 Super Dwarf tickets and no way to remove the excess, eventually erroring over and over.

NOVA Open sent out the following email in response to the meltdown and we’ll update when the next steps are revealed.

We are extremely sorry for the experience the community had during our sales launch. We rely on Tabletop.Events to support our sales, including launch night. Due to technical changes with their website, we were unable to provide the experience that we are committed to providing to all of our attendees. We are as frustrated with this experience as you all are.

So, what are we going to do to fix this? We are working with Tabletop.Events to pause all sales today and relaunch sales at a future date. Once we have a clear understanding of the root cause, we will communicate the re-launch date once we have confirmation from Tabletop.events that this issue is resolved.

We work hard year round to provide an event that is professional, organized, and most of all, fun. We did not live up to that tonight. For that, we apologize.

We will provide more information about the next steps as soon as we have them. Please pay attention to your email, our social media, or our website for all updates. We will cross-post across all of our media platforms as soon as we have an update.

Thank you for your continued support and we are so excited to see all of you on August 27!

NOVA Open Day 1 in Photos

The NOVA Open is four days of wargamming. Everything from Warhammer 40k to X-Wing to Magic: The Gathering. My event isn’t until Saturday, which gave me more than enough time to snap photos of some of the amazing figures on display.

Much more to come!

NOVA Open Charitable Foundation Launches 2014 Fundraising

NOVA Open Charitable Foundation Launches 2014 FundraisingThe NOVA Open Charitable Foundation (NOCF) seeks to rally the world-wide tabletop miniature gaming community to join together as a “Compassionate Force” and, in so doing, demonstrate the commitment and passion the community has for helping to ease the suffering of others. To that end, the Foundation is proud to announce the following 2014 fundraising initiatives in support of The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Child’s Play, Doctors Without Borders, and The Fisher House Foundation:

Army Raffles: Last year’s charity army raffles raised more than $10,000 for charity, and the convention is expecting to raise even more this year. This year’s offerings include the Battle for Macragge, Deathwatch, Ogre Kingdoms, and more! Winners will be announced at the closing awards ceremony of the 2014 NOVA Open Convention (don’t have to be present to win).

Weekly Raffles: NOCF will run weekly raffles of $25 gift certificates from its sponsors TheWarStore, Secret Weapon Miniatures, KR Multicase, and PoweredPlay Gaming. Everyone who buys a ticket for the army raffles is eligible for the weekly raffles- there are no loss of ticket results in the army raffles but you may only win the weekly raffles once between now and September 1.

NOCF expects all raffles to open on April 1.

Running August 29 to September 1, the NOVA Open is all about gaming tournaments. Warhammer 40K, Warhammer Fantasy Battle, Magic: The Gathering, Infinity, Hordes and War Machine were all represented as well as “how to” seminars.

This was my first time attending the convention and it’s definitely not what I was expecting. I’ll be following up with my impressions of the convention in a further post.
