Knight Model’s Marvel Universe Miniature Game Launches

We’ve been covering the lead up, but Knight Models has officially launched it’s latest game, Marvel Universe Miniature Game. The game allows you to play as Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, and the X-Men, pitting the factions against each other. There are three starter sets which include 4 metal miniatures as well as a mini rulebook. The price for the starter sets will retail for roughly $50 in US dollars but are currently on sale for about $45.

What is new is the blister packs launching along with the game, along with a template and markers. The blisters retail for $22.50 and the launch figures are Black Panther, Deadpool, and Nova. Definitely not ones I was expecting. There is also a marker set for each faction.

Check out the images below and you can order them directly from Knight Models.

The Avengers Revealed for Knight Model’s Marvel Universe Miniature Game

Today the Avengers have been revealed for Knight Model‘s upcoming tabletop game Marvel Universe Miniature Game. This comes the day after the Guardians of the Galaxy were revealed, and the X-Men preceded that. The game will be released with three starter sets, Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men, and Avengers, that will each included four metal miniatures, character cards, and a mini rulebook.

The Avengers are made up of Steve Rogers as Captain America, Tony Stark as Iron Man, Thor, and Natasha Romanova aka Black Widow. We don’t know who will be in the blister that will be released along with the starter set.

Each character’s description sounds like they embody their comic counterparts. Captain America is a leader who provides boosts to his teammates. His Vibranium Shield acts to help boost his defense and can be used offensively attacking multiple enemies as it bounces off of them in the air. Iron Man is all about the suit which allows him to fly with speed, his built in offensive repulsor blasts, missiles, and the Unibeam. Thor fills the role of the flying tank in his strength, and Mjolnir. He can also bring down lightning and like Cap, use his hammer as a shield. Finally Black Widow is about the stealth and close combat. It sounds like she has an infiltrate ability and uses close combat, firearms, and her Widow’s Bite to take on her opponents.

So, now that all three starter sets have been revealed, which will you be getting? I can’t decide, so I guess it’s all of them for me!

A first Look at the Marvel Universe Miniature Game Character Cards

We’ve got a first look at the character cards for Knight Models‘ upcoming game Marvel Universe Miniature Game.

It looks like the company has done a decent job at capturing some of the flavor of not just comic books, but even some of the fighting video games that have featured comic characters. They have some solid details of not just the name they might be known as such as Iron Man, but also their regular name, such as Tony Stark. This is important in that you can only have the same “real name” once on your team. So two version of Iron Man with Tony Stark would be out. But, you can have a Steve Rogers Captain America as well as a Sam Wilson Captain America.

As we explained previously, Power is how much a character has to spend each turn to do things. Speed is broken in to multiple movement sets which cost different amounts. There’s strength, an attack skill, agility, stamina, and willpower. Attack is what you’d use to do exactly that, while agility allows you to dodge, and stamina would be how much you get damaged.

In the defense section there’s a shield, brain, star, and Eye of Agamotto, which is used to defend against physical, mental, energy, and supernatural attacks.

Skills, we don’t know much about other than they’ll be explained in the rulebook. We don’t know the extent of skills and exactly what they do other than adding to various aspects of the character.

The level section is used to figure out the affiliation, which is part of the way you put together your team and the number helps balance the game for team building.

With attacks, we discussed in earlier posts that you’ll only be able to use attacks a certain amount of times such as every turn, as much as you can, or once per game. Special powers is a similar thing, with a frequency, and with different effects.

Endurance is the final section and as a character is damaged they get weaker and receive bonuses or negatives depending on the section. When you get to the red section, if you fail a stamina roll you’ll get KO’ed and be out of the game.

As a whole, the character cards are an interesting aspect making an easy to understand way to add new characters to the game and quickly see the abilities. As it has been laid out, you can see how the game will take shape as far as movement, attacks, and defense.

The more I’m seeing, the more I’m looking forward to this hitting my tabletop.

Marvel Universe Miniature Game’s X-Men Features Rogue, Cyclops, Wolverine, and Colossus

Knight Models has released more details on their upcoming Marvel Universe Miniature Game. The miniature game will feature factions and alignments. Factions include Superhuman, Mutant, and Cosmic with the Avengers, X-Men, and Guardians of the Galaxy representing each to start. There will also be alignments such as Hero, Villain, and Neutral.

Forces will be put together based on Levels with games being played at 30-50 and that will be decided by either the scenario being played or the players themselves. You then choose characters whose Faction and Alignment match, with Neutral characters being able to be used by Heroes or Villains.

You are also limited as to the characters themselves. You can’t have two Steve Rogers for example, but you could have two Captain America characters if one was Sam Wilson and the other was Steve Rogers.

Also revealed is that while the game will launch with three starter sets, Avengers, X-Men, and Guardians of the Galaxy, there will also be another character released in blister for each faction. Each starter set also includes character cards and a small-sized rulebook.

Knight Models has also shown off the X-Men faction with Rogue, Cyclops, Wolverine, and Colossus, each in a more classic design.

More Details on Knight Model’s Marvel Universe Miniature Game

Some more details on Knight Model‘s Marvel Universe Miniature Game have been released. The game was announced yesterday with basic details of what we can expect.

The game will have three initial starter sets (Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, and X-Men) released featured four figures and a a rulebook. There will also be rules cards for each figure included in the set.

The game on two D8 dice rolled together and compared to various stats. It is said you’ll need five D8 dice, so stock up now. Models can see 360 degrees and measuring can be done any time and is in inches.

As is the trend, the game is recommended to be played on a 36″ x 36″ board and the more the terrain the better.

Turns are taken in an alternating basis with players going back and forth activating models.

The game is scenario based with achievements giving players victory points.

Characters have a “Pow” stat which determines what a character can do such as movement, attacks, and special powers. For movement, there will be 2 to 3 speeds and each speed will cost a different amount of “Pow.” For example the first speed may be 1, the second 2, and third 3 points.

There’s four types of attacks and defense, physical, mental, energy, and supernatural. Characters will be strong in some and weak in others. There’s also secondary attacks. Each attack has a “Pow” cost and some attacks will be limited in how often they can be used. The basic idea for attacks is roll 2D8 and compare it against a character’s defense.

As if straight out of a video game, characters will have an Endurance Bar which will go from Green to Yellow to Red. Depending where you are, you’ll get bonuses or negatives and you can eventually get knocked out.

The game sounds like a hell of a fun skirmish game.
