Review: Ghoul Scouts: Night of the Unliving Undead #3

ALE_ghoulscouts_03A copyThe Scouts uncover clues about Full Moon Hollow’s past that only deepen the mystery behind the zombie outbreak. They suspect that the answers can be found in a creepy old mansion outside of town, if they can just make it there alive!

Ghoul Scouts: Night of the Unliving Undead #3 manages to bring in something the previous two didn’t really touch on, character history and their family lives. Writer Steve Bryant really manages to deepen both the story and the characters, as they fight against the undead as they try to reach a mysterious mansion in town.

The art by Mark Stegbauer in this issue can be broken down into two groups, up close, and wider shots. While the two isn’t balanced, they are used to showcase the passage of time in some ways. It all assists in keeping the story flowing at a decent pace, as the characters encounter more weirdness.

Review: Ghoul Scouts: Night of the Unliving Undead #2

ALE_ghoulscouts_02A copyAfter finding their camp deserted and destroyed, the scouts have to fight their way through more zombies to reach Full Moon Hollow. But will anyone there be able to help them solve the mystery behind this zombie outbreak and save the town? Is there even a town left to save?

Ghoul Scouts: Night of the Unliving Undead, is half Scooby-Doo, and half The Walking Dead. In this second issue, the kids manage to find what remains of the campsite, before deciding to take a moonlight stroll into town. This leads to the discovery that zombies have made their way into town. As they run from house to house in search of an adult, they try to survive the zombie townsfolk. It’s a solid blending of comics and is a zombie comic for the younger set.

The mix of improvised and little random weapons manages to throw some humor into the art. While the town seems to have some of the creep factor of the forest, there is something about the place that is small-town.  If the town wasn’t infested with zombies, it would probably be a nice place to live. The houses do look pretty similar as the kids defend themselves but there’s a nice flowing manner about it all.

Review: Ghoul Scouts: Night of the Unliving Undead #1

Ghoulscouts_01_digital-1Something stranger than usual haunts Full Moon Hollow, Paranormal Capital of the World. Adults either can’t see it, can’t remember it, or go crazy from it. So when zombies attack during the Hemlock County Scouting Jamboree, only a group of misfits can save the Hollow. Be prepared. Be very prepared.

In Ghoul Scouts: Night of the Unliving Undead, writer Steve Bryant manages to craft a simple, funny, and kid friendly zombie comic. The younger characters manage to be oddly lucky as they first encounter the undead. They even manage to find a few companions in two remaining Gaia scouts. The comic does make you wonder why so many strange things happen in Full Moon Hollow? And that includes why there are no adults… or at least no adults yet.

The art by Jason Millet and Mark Stegbauer is straight forward, and clean. It uses minimal violence (so far), as the ragtag group of young survivors try to figure out what is going on. That manages to bolster the kid friendly atmosphere of this comic.
