Loki: Agent of Asgard Infinity Comic #1-10 is FREE on Marvel Unlimited

Ahead of Marvel Studios’ Loki Season 2, Marvel Unlimited has adapted the first five issues of Loki: Agent of Asgard into the vertical Infinity Comics format! Exclusive to the Marvel Unlimited app and web service, Marvel’s Infinity Comics are a lineup of digital comics and series that are designed for vertical, mobile reading. Now, Loki: Agent of Asgard Infinity Comic #1-10 is FREE on Marvel Unlimited, and fans of Asgard’s God of Mischief will want to read this run in full. After getting a second shot after nearly losing it all in Young Avengers (2013), Loki worked on behalf of Asgard in this 2014 run by Al Ewing, Lee Garbett, and Nolan Woodard. Starting with a heist on Avengers Tower, an undercover mission in the casinos of Monte Carlo, and even a speed dating event in New York, this Loki is all grown up—and he’s stronger, smarter, sexier and just plain sneakier than ever before. But what could be Loki’s opportunity for a redemptive quest takes on a whole new meaning, and our slippery antihero must choose his allies wisely or risk disappointing the All-Mother and all of Asgardia…

Graphic Policy’s Top Comic Picks this Week!

We Are RobinWednesdays are new comic book day! Each week hundreds of comics are released, and that can be pretty daunting to go over and choose what to buy. That’s where we come in!

We’re bringing back something we haven’t done for a while, what the team thinks. Our contributors are choosing up to five books each week and why they’re choosing the books.

Find out what folks think below, and what comics you should be looking out for this Wednesday.

Brett

Top Pick: Raputin #6 (Image Comics) – The end of the first story arc caught me off-guard as it left Rasputin dead from being shot. Fast forward 100 years, and the mad monk is now working as a political aide for a Presidential Candidate. Wait, what!? The first arc was solid, this second one starts off with a bang. If you missed that first arc, the trade paperback is out this week too!

Fight Club 2 #2 (Dark Horse Comics) – The first issue was fantastic, and this second one is a world wind in madness. Chuck Palahniuk continues Tyler Durden’s story, and so far it’s amazing.

Legacy of Luther Strode #2 (Image Comics) – Give me some of that good ole ultraviolence. The kung-fu action is over the top, and over the top bloody, and beyond entertaining too.

Material #2 (Image Comics) – Ales Kot’s first issue got me to think. I’m expecting more of the same for the second issue as things hopefully become clearer and the various stories begin to merge in some way. A comic that’s socially conscious and relevant.

Transformers: Windblade #4 (IDW Publishing) – A new lost colony has been found, and Starscream and Windblade vie to make them part of the new Transformers world. Who will win out, and who will gain influence? This series focuses on Windblade’s effort with absolutely beautiful art that makes it stand out from the other Transformers series.

Edward

Top Pick: Mulan Revelations #1 (Dark Horse Comics) – Although it comes off looking a bit like Image’s Lazarus, this futuristic dystopian cyberpunk uses an unlikely heroine for its lead as the actual historical character is transported through time to the future of China.

Batgirl #41 (DC Comics) – The new Batman didn’t really go over all that well as the story arc to follow after End Game, but Batgirl has been running as one of the best quality comics for a few months now.  What happens when the two meet?

Grimm Fairy Tales Presents the Little Mermaid #5 (Zenescope) – Although it has been a little up and down in terms of its story telling, this miniseries is likely to launch the Little Mermaid back into relevance as one of Grimm Fairy Tales main heroines.  What that means is decided here.

Jem and the Holograms #4 (IDW Publishing)  – The subject matter has not been very deep, but neither has there really been any misstep in this entire series thus far.  This is a series for those that can let their comics be fun and not only about superheroes.

MODOK Assassin #2 (Marvel) – The first issue of this series was unquestionably the biggest surprise of the Secret Wars tie-ins thus far and undoubtedly one of the most fun as well (and violent).  Whether it can carry on this momentum will be interesting to see.

Elana

Top Pick: Secret Six TP Vol. 2: Money for Murder (reissue) (DC Comics) – This TP contains the rightfully legendary panels in which Dick!Batman punches Catman saying “If you must know…I had a burrito!”

This is peak Gail Simone and it’s some of the best comics ever.

This TP is a reissue of “Unhinged” and some subsequent issues, which is really the 3rd volume of Gail Simone’s groundbreaking series in the 00s that started with Villains United. All if it is a must-read.

This series is about a team of bad men and bad women learning to take care of each other. If you like complex but funny characters, like your humor dark and enjoy laughing while you are being gutted by metal claws (metaphorically), your heat-strings played upon by deranged masked killers — and who doesn’t– then you need to buy this book to survive.

Top Pick: Fight Club 2 #2 (Dark Horse) – This series is smart and fun. If you loved Fight Club (like I do) and your the right kind of fan (you know, the good kind, that appreciates the story as an examination of the crisis of masculinity and as a queer text) then you need to be reading this series. It is a continuation of the original book taking place some years into the future and written by Palahniuk himself. The art is first-rate too.

Batgirl #41 (DC Comics) –  I was sure that we were about to get a new Oracle in the form of Frankie, Bab’s awesome coder roomate (who also uses crutches). But now I don’t know! Based on last night’s podcast where we interviewed writer Brenden Fletcher I’m now calling this issue Schrödinger’s Oracle. It may not happen. Open the box.

Kaptara #3 (Image Comics) – I’m just getting into this unprecedentedly creative space opera/comedy. Nothing else like it out there. The art style has a look thats somewhat psychedelic. Our lead character is a gay scientist of indian descent who drips sarcasm and insecurity and is a pleasure to read.

Material #2 (Image Comics) – Writer Ales Kot is doing something completely unique in comics. This book feels a bit like post modernist literary fiction. Except its a comic. And unlike literary fiction these days I actually enjoy it. A lot. Smart and political and worth your attention. He was our guest on the podcast a few weeks back. Have a listen.

We Are Robin #1 (DC Comics) – I want to like this. The youth of Gotham unite and declare themselves Robin. That sounds like a sentiment I can get behind. I don’t know the creative team. Will have to check it out!

Johnny with Comixstravaganza Live

Top Pick: We Are Robin #1 (DC Comics) – I’ve never been a huge Batman fan, so I’ve never actively read or collected any bat titles. But this concept of the collective youth of Gotham adopting Robin as their symbol is intriguing. I’ll be picking this one up just to see how it is executed.

Ant-Man: Larger Than Life (Marvel) – I’m a little shocked that this book stars THE Ant-Man, Hank Pym instead of Scott Lang. As a long time Hank Pym fan, this has me hopeful about his character in the upcoming film and MCU as a whole, but more than that, could this be signaling a change in direction for Pym? Recent storylines suggest he sacrificed himself to stop Ultron in Rage of Ultron, but could this book be signaling a new return of Pym? Probably not, but I like to hold out hope.

Captain Midnight #24 (Dark Horse Comics) – It all ends here. This title has been for me the most satisfying monthly book over the last two years. Josh Williamson knows how to write these pulp-era characters, and this series has shown it in a big way!

Rasputin #6 (Image Comics) – Just when you though the story had ended, we jump forward 100 years to the present where the “Mad Monk” may still be alive? I’ve loved the way Alex Grecian portrayed Rasputin in a heroic way as a healer, and Rossmo’s art is absolutely gorgeous! If you missed issues 1-5 you can also pick up the collected TPB out this week too!

The Shadow #100 (Dynamite Entertainment) – My top pick! I got the preview copy last week and just fell over with the writing and art. This is an anthology issue with various creators, but most notable is Francesco Francavilla, and Howard Chaykin. I’ve always said Chaykin was born to draw the Phantom, but Francavilla’s work is unbelievable! He is definitely another artist who was born to draw The Shadow! I hope we see more Shadow from him soon!

Mr. H

Top Pick: We are Robin #1 (DC Comics) – Social Media Superheroes? This one sounds so intriguing just cannot pass up. A true team that is reflective of the world right outside our window.

Batgirl #41 (DC Comics) – The new Batman (Commissioner Gordon) encounters his (Batgirl) daughter. A can’t miss father/ daughter showdown!

Grayson #9 (DC Comics) – Dick Grayson: Secret Agent? Yes Please! DC Comics reimagining of one of it’s most beloved characters into a super spy continues after the long Convergence break. Plus adding Helena Bertenelli (Huntress) into the mix sounds fantastic!

Green Lantern: The Lost Army #1 (DC Comics) – Power Rings, survival journey and adventure along the way with everyone’s favorite cosmic cops? This one’s a no brainer. Can’t wait to see them light em’ up!

The Walking Dead #143 (Skybound/Image Comics) – It’s The Walking Dead. Can you ever get enough?

Paul

Top Pick: X-Men ’92 #1 (Marvel) – The X-Men from the 90s are back?? *Insert fanboy squeal here*  I might be getting ahead of myself, not knowing how Secret Wars will be portraying my merry mutants, but I am so excited to see this line up back, just as I remember they looked when I would walk into my comic shop all those years ago eager to read their latest adventure.  Here’s hoping myself and other fans are not disappointed.

E is for Extinction #1 (Marvel) – I’ve picked this title because I am a fan of all things X.  Secret Wars, to me, has not been the earth shattering event it was promoted to be.  But I am looking forward to a title devoted to the X-Men and what they’ve become in Battleworld.  I like the premise described as mutants really being ‘homo SUPERIOR’ and look forward to seeing a world where they are idolized and not feared.

Loki Agent of Asgard #15 (Marvel) – I have loved this book from day 1.  The journey of a twenty-something Loki, trying to escape his future self; finding a friend he actually cares about; finding himself doing the right thing (in his own special way) has been a Loki I easily got on board with.  Things are changing for him however, and I for one can’t wait to see how it all goes down.

Pharoah

Top Pick: X-Men ’92 #1 (Marvel) – Definitely had my interest piqued when I saw it in Previews for this month’s solicitations. We take nostalgic look at X-Men, from 23 years ago, with none other than JIM LEE returning for this series!!!!!

Evil Dead 2: Beyond Dead by Dawn #1 (Space Goat Productions) – Horror comics seem to be what is all the rage, and the fact they have this comic which picks up where the movies end, this sounds like it will be fun, if anything it gives the average Evil Dead fan something to look forward to before the new show premieres on Starz.

Fight Club 2 #2 (Dark Horse Comics) – Chuck Palahniuk continues Tyler Durden’s story in this new series from Dark Horse, the first issue did not disappoint, so  I am hoping Palaniuk has even more surprises in store in this issue.

Mulan Revelations #1 (Dark Horse) –  Another interesting reboot, to a well told legend, this time the guys at Dark Horse tackle Mulan , but in the same way the anime , 7 Samurai, reboots Akira Kurosawa ‘s classic film, hoping the execution lives to the promise.

We Are Robin #1 (DC Comics) – From the DCYou reboot going on at DC, hundreds of teenagers all over Gotham, are adopting the ”R”, adding a new dimension to the Batman mythos.

We’re bringing back something we haven’t done for a while, what the team thinks. Our contributors are choosing up to five books each week and why they’re choosing the books.

Brett

Top Pick: A-Force #1 (Marvel) – An all-female Avengers team?! Hells yes! Sign me up. The team looks interesting and there’s promise of a new character being introduced who will play a big role. There’s lots of buzz for this book and I’m looking forward to it.

Max Max: Fury Road: Nux & Immortan Joe #1 (DC Comics/Vertigo) – If you saw the movie this weekend, you know why this is on the list.

Psycho Bonkers #1 (Aspen) – A fun car race comic featuring a teenage girl. This is something we need more of. It’s like Speed Racer for the Tween set.

Ultimate End #1 (Marvel) – And this is how a world ends…..

Valhalla Mad #1 (Image Comics) – Any new series from Image is on my radar. Three warrior gods vacationing on Earth by writer Joe Casey sounds awesome to me.

Edward

Top Pick: A-Force #1 (Marvel) – The all-female team for Marvel could be pretty fun if the characters aren’t just put there because of their gender.

Ei8ht #4 (Dark Horse) – More answers are due to be revealed in this tale of time travel.

Jem and the Holograms #3 (IDW Publishing) – This series has been a fun ride so far as the band starts to get more confidence.

Jungle Girl Seasons 3 #2 (Dynamite) –  This is a modern version of the jungle genre which once ruled comics.

Satellite Sam #14 (Image Comics) –  This world of debauchery and lies only gets more complicated after every issue.

Elana

Top Pick: A-Force #1 (Marvel) – This is the hottest ticket of the week — all of our favorite female heroes in a fascinating speculative world by ground-breaking writer, G. Willow Wilson.

A certain Harvard Professor might think this book looks like porn based on leading questions she asked her sons who are too young to know what porn is. But I know the difference. And even female characters with conventional comics bodies (oh well) can be written as full fledged characters that exist beyond just being subjects for an eroticized male gaze (yeah!). My money is on this being an outstanding book to love and share with your friends.

Convergence: New Teen Titans #2 (DC Comics) – “Why must I be a teengage superhero in looooove?” Only Dion and The Belmonts and Marv Wolfman know for sure. Last issue was everything I wanted: bronze age-worthy soap-y superhero romance, art with a classic feel and great “acting” via Nicola Scott and some things we didn’t know we wanted: namely the fact that apparently Cyborg and Beast-Boy are a couple? I’m still waiting on a fan who read the original series back in the day to tell me if this was a going theory back then. Anyway, this month’s should be all that and more.

Dirk Gently’s Wholistic Detective Agency #1 (IDW Publishing) –  I grew up loving the Hitchhiker’s Guide books. They were laugh out loud funny beyond anything else I’ve read yet full of real human emotion, even the aliens. This series is based off of related Douglas Adams novels. I hope this will be in the same spirit.

Jem and the Holograms #3 (IDW Publishing) – A comic book that has charmed everyone. Please get this in to the hands of teen readers! It is totally accessible to folks who never watched the show. Yet it embraces the true spirit of the show- a light sci-fi action story featuring strongly written diverse women. Apparently the movie missed that entirely.

Loki Agent of Asgard #14 (Marvel) – Al Ewing is really on a roll in his titles. I can’t wait to see where this series lands. Great characterization, emotional stakes are high, creative story and I really can’t predict where this will go. Not sure what to make of the new look Loki reveal from last issue. Is he some sort of integrated personality between evil King Loki and the heroic trickster from recent issues? No idea.

RedOne01_CoverWednesdays are new comic book day!

Brett

Invisible Republic #1 (Image Comics) – This new series is not what I expected at all. It follows a journalist who’s researching how an empire rose and fell. The story perspective is what really stood out to me, and out of everything I’ve read so far this week, this one beyond exceeded my expectation.

Chrononauts #1 (Image Comics) – Mark Millar and Sean Gordon Murphy do the time travel thing in this latest Millarworld release. The first issue is entertaining, but how it’ll differ from Black Science (an Image comic with a similar premise) will be key.

Frankenstein Underground #1 (Dark Horse) – The latest entry into the Mignolaverse is a fantastic read and welcome addition to one of the strongest comic universes out there.

Giant Robot Warrior Maintenance Crew (Cosmic Times) – When we get stories about giant robots and the folks who control them, it’s always an individual, or a couple of people that get all the glory. Did you know there’s a whole team within the robot that keeps it running? This hilarious series focuses on the individuals who don’t get enough credit.

Transformers #39 (IDW Publishing) – The Combiner Wars have begun, and holy crap is this first issue amazing.

Edward

Top Pick: Red One #1 (Image Comics) – This new series seems to have a lot of potential, combining a talented creative team with an interesting concept.  It seems like Evil Knievel mixed with Black Widow, all of which leads to a double cross.

Batgirl #40 (DC Comics) – The new direction of Batgirl has almost become meta- and aware of itself, but maybe rightfully so after its success.  It will be interesting to see where the creative team can take the character after their success so far.

Princess Leia #2 (Marvel) –  Some were expecting more out of this series after the success of the other new Star Wars series, but one of the Star Wars universe’s more complex but also overlooked characters deserves another look to see what happened before Hoth.

Satellite Sam #12 (Image Comics) – This series never fails to disappoint, with its intricate story and deep characters.  Revelations upon revelations show that the golden age of Hollywood was not what we thought it to be.

Silk #2 (Marvel) – Spider-Gwen gets all the fanfare, but is Silk what it should have really been?  The series is a step above its spider-rival and worth a second look.

Elana

Top Pick: Storm #9 (Marvel) – This Important X-Men Book is entering a new arc and I’m eager to see what it is. This book asks important questions about who we are in the world and how those of us with and without superpowers can empower oppressed people worldwide. It’s a topic I’d like more comics to consider since the premise of superheroes really begs that question.

Black Widow #16 (Marvel) – I have a feeling this issue is going to involve a lot of asskicking, espionage and top notch art. Because it always does. Noto puts the rest to shame. His painterly panels are very approachable for new readers who may be put off by cartoonish-ness elsewhere. The story reads like an action/suspense film right now.

Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #3 (Marvel) – It’s really funny. And even if I wasn’t hooked I’d still have to buy it for my husband. I love the narrative device of Doreen owning a set of Deadpool Trading cards that give background on any enemy she faces. North’s secret text below the panels joke is carried over from Adventure Time but this book has a strong sense of character all its own. I love Squirrel Girl’s attitude and I bet it would be great for kids.

Lazarus Vol. 3 Conclave TP (Image Comics) This book rocks in trades. It is the smartest dystopian sci-fi around. A comic that is doing our medium proud and a heroine who looks like she can actually kick your ass.

Loki Agent of Asgard #12 (Marvel)On our podcast we talked about Al Ewing’s writing here and how the book’s tone and Loki’s voice reminds us of his writing on Doctor Who: the 11th Doctor. You should give this comic to our friends who love Matt Smith’s Doctor Who or Hiddleston as Loki. It really is a good gateway drug! I mean comic, sorry, gateway comic (though start from issue 1).

Johnny Dellarocca (Comixstravaganza Live)

Top Pick: Silk #2 (Marvel) – we really enjoyed issue one and the pace and tone of the premiere did a great job of establishing the connection to Peter Parker, but at the same time setting it apart completely.

Avengers – Busiek and Perez Omnibus (Marvel) – FINALLY! The smaller collections have been difficult to find, so this omnibus is a welcome addition to your hardcover library. If you are a fan of “old school” super team adventures than you know Busiek and Perez’s run was legendary. They successfully resurrected this franchise from the brutal death brought in by Leifeld (and Lee’s) “Heroes Reborn” debacle. Also this is in the days when a story arc was 2-3 issues instead of the epic 12 – 24+ issue arcs of Bendis and Hickman. Busiek’s Avengers actually DID something instead of wandering around reacting.

This is the pick of the year

Frankenstein Underground #1 (Dark Horse) – It’s Mignola. It’s Frankenstein on the lamb. Do need anything else?

Princess Leia #2 (Marvel) – I’m really hoping that this continues to be strong. Vader #2 suffered a little bit, but the creative team on this is really strong! What’s great about these canon series is that we potentially see greater depth in the characters and that should enhance our appreciation of the films. So far Marvel has done s great job!

Rocketeer Complete Dave Stevens TPB (IDW Publishing) – IDW is doing a great job of breathing new, authentic life into this character and this month they are reprinting the complete Dave Steven’s series in one collection in paperback. The hardcover collection from Dark Horse us hard to find, so a TPB is welcome!

The Last Days Begin This May for Marvel

The skies fracture. The ground trembles. The end of all they know is coming. Heroes, Gods of Mischief and Masters of Magnetism who have faced annihilation more times than they could count and walked away. Only this time, there is no walking away. Marvel has revealed the first issues of three blockbuster Last Days stories, leading in to the highly-anticipated Secret Wars. Beginning in May, be there as your favorite Marvel heroes face their final hours, and the obliteration of the Marvel Universe!

First, Al Ewing and Luke Ross bring you a story of the people who faced the end of the world together, shoulder to shoulder in the face of destruction in Captain America & The Mighty Avengers #8. Some of them wore costumes, and some of them didn’t. Some of them had super-human powers, and all some had were each other. Yet they were all Mighty Avengers in the end. And this is how they spent their last day.

Then, ask yourself – what will your legacy be when it’s all over? Cullen Bunn and Javi Fernandez have the answers in Magneto #18. The Mutant Master of Magnetism has learned his time is all but spent. A life of struggle and torment brought to a cataclysmic end at the destruction of all things. With everything he’s fought for his whole life brought to its unavoidable ending, how will he cope? Will he celebrate his legacy – or be tormented by it?

Finally, the end of the Marvel Universe extends into Asgard and beyond as all the Ten Realms face their final hours in Loki: Agent of Asgard #14. Al Ewing and Lee Garbett bring you the curtain call of the God of Mischief. Ancient enemies march on Asgardia seeking their final vengeance – including King Loki, meaner, madder and more dangerous than before. Where is our Loki? What tragedy has befallen him, here at the end?

Before Secret Wars can begin, the Marvel Universe must end.
