Irish Comic Collective Limit Break Comics Expands Its Team to Mark its 6th Birthday

Irish comic collective Limit Break Comics is celebrating its sixth birthday by inviting new creators to join the team.

Founded in 2018 by Paul Carroll, Gareth Luby and Gary Moloney, the collective first introduced a new member of the team in 2022 with the publication of Seamus Kavanagh’s Old Game Plus #1. Since joining the collective, Seamus runs panels at conventions under the Limit Break banner. In 2023, Limit Break published Mr & Mrs Van Helsing by Aaron Fever and Hugh Madden.

Since its inception, Limit Break Comics has sought to support small press comics in Ireland and abroad. The group has worked with over 130 creators, and is currently in the process of publishing its fourth myth anthology, Wish Upon a Star (returning to Kickstarter in September 2024.)

In 2024, Limit Break Comics has announced new arrivals to the team from the long list of contributors to the collective’s books since 2021: James KillianMari RolinAlice Coleman, and Colin O’Mahoney.

The new team will be part of the upcoming second issue of Limit Break Presents, to be released later this year.

James Killian is an artist from Westmeath, Ireland. His art can be found in anthologies such as Turning Roads, Down Below and Fractured Realms. When he is not drawing, he spends time playing with his best friend Boots.

Mari Rolin is a Brazilian comic book artist residing in Kerry, Ireland. She’s one half of the team behind the webcomic Chaotic Neutral (2020) and part of both the editorial and artistic team of OPArt, nominated for the Angoulême Alternative Comics Award in 2024. Mari enjoys making zines and featured in several comic book anthologies/magazines like Café Espacial #20 (2022), HOME (2022), and Failure to Launch (2023, Iron Comics); she is also the artist in the indie graphic novel When Language Fails (2023). A collaborator with Limit Break Comics since 2021, Mari is joining the group in 2024. When she’s not drawing or painting, she can be found reading, writing, teaching or playing with her cats.

Alice Claire Coleman (@OneCuriousChip) is a graphic designer and illustrator based in Cork, with a speciality in book cover design and typesetting. Clients include Watkins, Angry Robot, Nourish, Datura Books, various independent publishers, and more.

Colin O’Mahoney (he/him) is a writer and editor who has had comic and prose work published in Ireland, England, America, South America, and the internet. He is currently working on several graphic novel pitches, and is the lead writer on a yet-to-be-announced children’s TV show. He just loves writing, and if you ever try to stop him you will be sorry. Because he will cry, and it will be really embarrassing for everyone.

Colin also teaches creative writing and comic-making, and is passionate about the benefits of creativity, and self expression, particularly for young people.

He lives in Cork, Ireland, with his wife Aileen, and two cats. They are currently building a bunker designed for the myriad types of apocalypse the modern world threatens (climate, nuclear, A.I, idiocy, unicorn, etc.) The cats have not been particularly helpful in this project.
