Spawn #350 sends shockwaves through King Spawn, The Scorched, and GunSlinger

This month marks a pivotal moment in the history of Todd McFarlane‘s Spawn. The monumental issue #350 promises an unprecedented shift and new direction for the acclaimed Spawn series—initiating not only a new era for Spawn, but also sending shockwaves through the rest of the Spawn Universe of titles. In Spawn #350, after a 250-issue vacancy, a NEW RULER will sit on the Throne of Hell, and this momentous reveal will affect the direction of the main Spawn series’ storyline—as well as radically change trajectory of its monthly companion series: King SpawnThe Scorched, and Gunslinger

This line-wide new direction makes February the perfect time for new readers to get on board with the Spawn Universe. In light of this massive narrative change, Spawn #350—along with King Spawn #31Gunslinger #29, and The Scorched #27—all serve as ideal jumping-on points for both seasoned Spawn fans and newcomers alike, and will offer compelling introductions to the Spawn Universe. The events of Spawn #350 will change the status quo for these titles forever… and readers will want to see the fallout.

As the repercussions of the events unfolding in Spawn #350 echo throughout the Spawn Universe, they will impact the fate of every character. The balance of power will undergo a dramatic shift. Characters—both past and present—will find themselves at the forefront of this ever-evolving storyline, reshaping the Power Rankings within the Spawn Universe.

Continuing to showcase their creative ingenuity, Spawn and Gunslinger are set to undergo artistic transformations, too, as esteemed artists Brett Booth and Carlo Barberi exchange artistic roles—bringing fresh perspectives to both titles beginning with Spawn #351 and Gunslinger #29. These titles will showcase this new direction with a bold cover banner atop the title’s logo, and future issues of The Scorched and King Spawn will also don the same callout banner.

Fans will soon bear witness to their beloved characters’ struggles with the consequences of losing the powers once bestowed upon them from Heaven or Hell, while also adapting to their newfound roles and identities.

It will affect everyone.

Spawn Comics are Getting Black Sketch Covers

Todd McFarlane has announced a limited run of blank sketch covers on all four of his monthly comic titles in honor of the 30th anniversary of Spawn and Image Comics. In the months of April and May only, Todd McFarlane will debut blank sketch covers for the first time on three of the newest titles, King SpawnThe Scorched, and Gunslinger Spawn.

Todd McFarlane Productions will not only release a blank sketch cover on the three newest titles, but the regular Spawn monthly comic will also feature a blank sketch cover, which he hasn’t done since the record-breaking Spawn 300 in 2019. To commemorate Spawn #1 being released thirty years ago, McFarlane will also release a special blank sketch cover of Spawn’s inaugural issue. All the above covers will only include logos and pricing.

Before this year, Todd McFarlane has rarely offered these types of covers on the regular Spawn monthly book over the past 30 years. In addition to the traditional white blank sketch cover, McFarlane will release for the first time a black blank sketch cover for each of the four monthly titles too.

This will be the only time in 2022 retailers will be able to purchase these blank sketch covers (black or white versions).

Gunslinger Spawn #1 Sees a First Printing of 393,000 Copies

“The Year of Spawn” continues with Todd McFarlane‘s new titles from the Spawn mythology, setting three record-breaking sales in less than five months. The latest record to fall was set by Gunslinger Spawn #1 when it became the biggest launch of a NEW SUPERHERO MONTHLY title in the comic industry (all companies included) in the past 25 years with the first printing of 393,000 copies.

Gunslinger Spawn #1 total sales are bigger than Marvel’s Spider-Gwen launch in 2015, and there hasn’t been another new character comic close to that number 20 years prior to that.

McFarlane’s Spawn titles also hold the following records: Spawn’s Universe #1 (June 2021) was Image Comics’ top-selling first issue of the 21st Century with a print run of 226,000 (and has since had to additional printings).

Then King Spawn #1 (August 2021) sales demolished The Avengers record, becoming the comic industry’s highest ordered monthly superhero launch in the 21st Century with a print run currently over 520,000.

The Scorched #1 release in December is slated to break another industry record for a new superhero team book. After 30 years of mostly just a single monthly Spawn book, The Scorched will gather some of the most popular characters from the past three decades and put them together in one title.

Gunslinger Spawn #1 will be available at comic book shops (48 pages, full color, rated: Teen+, $5.99, premium 10 pt. cover stock) and on digital platforms, including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play on Wednesday, October 20.

King Spawn Gets Nearly 500,000 Pre-Orders

King Spawn

Image Comics has announced that the upcoming launch of Todd McFarlane’s new monthly comic book, King Spawn #1, has shattered sales records. With just under a half-million pre-orders by comic stores retailers, this marks the single largest new superhero monthly title launch in the comic book industry in the past 25 years based on the standard sales formula of the comic book industry (non-returnable, non-retailer exclusive sales).

The debut issue currently stands at pre-orders of 497,000 copies.

The Spawn character was first introduced in 1992, with the release of Spawn #1, to a record of 1.7 million copies that still stands today as the highest selling, creator-owned comic issue of all time. Published by Image Comics, the Spawn character also set a record as the longest running, creator-owned comic on the planet when issue #301 was published in 2019.

McFarlane has announced his plans to once again expand the Spawn range in a new “shared universe”. The initial step in that plan was Spawn’s Universe #1 which was released in June to the largest sales from Image since 1998. The first issue of King Spawn beat that number by two and a half times.

King Spawn is Coming this August

Todd McFarlane will unleash an all-new comic book series—King Spawn—this August. This new title will continue the dramatic events from recent blockbuster Spawn’s Universe #1 and is nearly three decades in the making. King Spawn #1 marks the first time an ongoing, monthly Spawn series has been launched in over 28 years and joins an elite group of famed heroes—like Spider-Man, Batman, and Superman—with more than one monthly title devoted to the same character. King Spawn is projected to have even higher sales than the record-setting Spawn’s Universe #1.

To that point, one of the all-time classic fan-favorite villains from the original series makes his long-awaited return in the initial storyline of this new title.

An all-star creative team will help launch this series, including writers Sean Lewis, Todd McFarlane, and artists Javier Fernandez, Brett Booth, Philip Tan, Stephen Segovia, Todd McFarlane, and Marcio Takara. Along with famed cover artists Greg Capullo, Sean Gordon Murphy, Puppeteer Lee, David Finch, McFarlane, Booth, and a few more still to be announced.

The release of King Spawn #1 is nearly three decades in the making and marks the first time a #1 Spawn issue has been available, in monthly form, in over twenty-eight years. Issue #1 is a massive 56 pages thick with stunning art and action-packed storytelling.

King Spawn #1 will be available at  comic book shops  and digital platforms, including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play on Wednesday, August 18,  SRP $5.99.
