Mark Buckingham, Letizia Cadonici, Todd Dezago, John J. Pearson, Stuart Sayger, and Kelly Yates are coming to Baltimore Comic Con

Mark Buckingham, who is best-known and most-celebrated for his work on the long-running Vertigo title Fables, began his career in 1990 working with Neil Gaiman on Miracleman from Eclipse Comics. Working on such titles as 2000 AD, Hellblazer, and Shade, the Changing Man, he became a mainstay at DC Comics after taking over art duties on Fables with issue #6. His run on the popular imprint title has earned him four Eisner Awards, including Best New Series in 2003, Best Serialized Story in 2005 and 2006, and Best Artist/Penciler/Inker in 2007.

Letizia Cadonici is an Italian comic book artist born in Rome, in 1991. She has worked for several Italian comic book publishers mostly in the gothic or horror genre.

Todd Dezago is a writer best known for his work in comics. He has written for Marvel, DC Comics, Image, Dark Horse, Scout Comics, and others. His credits include scripting the adventures of Spider-Man, X-Factor, the X-Men, the Avengers, Marvel Super Hero Squad, the Justice League, Flash, Impulse, Batman, and Young Justice. Todd co-created the high-adventure fantasy title, Tellos, with Mike Wieringo and The Perhapanauts with Craig Rousseau.

John J. Pearson is an Eisner Award-winning artist and illustrator based in Leeds, UK.

John has built a reputation as an inimitable talent through his varied portfolio, producing work for clients as diverse as DC Comics, Image Comics, Vault Comics, Z2 Comics, Heavy Metal Magazine, Netflix, WWE, Rue Morgue Magazine, The Ray Harryhausen Foundation, Burning Witches Records, and Arrow Video amongst many others. He is also an award-winning comic book artist, receiving the 2021 Eisner Award for Best Painter / Multimedia Artist (Interior Art) alongside collaborator Anand RK, for the work done on Blue in Green (Image Comics).

John fuses traditional drawing techniques, digital painting, and collage to produce highly-detailed and darkly compelling images across a range of printed media. Combining elements of photorealism, popular culture, abstraction, and psychedelia, he creates a unique style and versatility in approach that appeals to a wide spectrum of audiences.

John has exhibited in the UK and USA, organized extensive art experiences across the country, and produced live murals at high profile events both independently and as part of Leeds-based art collectives. He is currently working on the BOOM! Studios series, In Bloom.

Stuart Sayger is known for his dark and moody art style. His recent published projects will include: Batman, GI Joe, Conan the Barbarian, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Past projects include: TMNT: The Last Ronin-Lost Years, The Joker, Red Sonja, Vampirella, Dejah Thoris, Transformers, Army of Darkness, and KISS (the Gene Simmons rock band). Kelly Yates is an illustrator best known for his work on Doctor Who comics for both Titan and IDW Publishing. In addition, he writes and illustrates the creator-owned books, Amber Atoms and MonstHer.

David Finch, Daniel Govar, Tony Moy, Karl Story, John Workman, and Kelly Yates are coming to Baltimore Comic Con

See the 25th anniversary Baltimore Comic-Con at the Inner Harbor’s Baltimore Convention Center on September 20-22! The Baltimore Comic-Con hs announced comics guests David Finch, Daniel Govar, Tony Moy, Karl Story, John Workman, and Kelly Yates appearing at the25th Anniversary event! Check out their website for information on ticketing, other announced guests, cosplay events, gaming, and more!

For almost 30 years, David Finch has inspired fans with his raw and gritty art aesthetic. His comic credentials include creator-owned successes Ascension and Aphrodite IX and main stream hits like Ultimate X-Men, New Avengers, Moon Knight, and Ultimatum. In addition to comics, Dave has done work for film, video games, and the music industry. Moving to DC Comics in 2010, Dave used his powerful and emotional artwork to tackle Gotham’s grittiest hero in Batman: Dark Knight. His work with Geoff Johns on Justice League of America and Forever Evil brought a fresh and exciting perspective to the DC universe of villains. November of 2014 saw another chapter begin in his career when he began working on one of comics’ most iconic characters: Wonder Woman. Finch then turned his eye for detail back to the caped crusader in the pages of Batman with comic writer Tom King. When the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns hit, David started a YouTube channel to inspire and connect with his fans. The channel was a huge hit and currently boasts more than 400,000 subscribers. These days, you can find his work on the covers of the Walking Dead and various Marvel and DC titles.

Daniel Govar was an animator for SYFY, a creative director of a media firm, and is currently a comic creator, illustrator, and father. His clients have included Marvel, Sony, DC, Valiant, Dynamite, Amazon, Heavy Metal, Topps, Simon and Shuster, and Naamco/Bandai. He’s worked on major properties in a variety of capacities, as an animator, an interior/cover artist, a storyboarder, and concept artist. Some properties include Star Wars, The Avengers, Captain America, Wolverine, Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man, Punisher, Grimm, Thanos, and Lord of the Rings. He illustrates the self-published comics Lovecraft, Relaunch, So Dark, and recently, through CEX, Tuskers. He has also done covers recently for Valiant and Heavy Metal, and has been working on Star Wars over the last year for major Topps sets; the latest a portrait set. Daniel’s illustration work is in everything from watercolor, pencil, ink, and traditional mediums to digital as well. Aside from Star Wars, Daniel is currently illustrating covers and interiors for Naomi Novik’s popular fantasy novel series, Temeraire, and with his watercolor pal, Tony Moy, with whom he hosts the YouTube channel Paint Bros (think dueling pianos but with watercolor!).

Currently, Tony Moy is providing traditional watercolor artwork for Marvel Snaps Mobile game and continuing work on a watercolor comic project called “4forty2nd: The Lost Battalion,” which is based on the real-life World War II story of the 442nd Battalion. This project is a labor of love for Tony, who is dedicated to bringing this important chapter of history to life.

Tony was the primary artist for the series The Mainstream published by Zenescope, X-Files (IDW), and Dungeons and Dragons comics. Additionally, he has been published variant covers for the Batman/The Maxx (DC/IDW), Edenwood (Image Comics), 8 Billion Genies (Image Comics), and others.

One of the original members of Gaijin Studios, Karl Story‘s inks have graced the pages of titles such as DC’s Action Comics, Nightwing, Batman ’66, Legends of the Dark Knight, Ocean, and The American Way, as well as Marvel’s X-Men and Dark Horse’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9 among many, many others. You can find his recent work in DC’s The Multiversity: The Society of Super-Heroes: Conquerors of the Counter-World and Dark Horse’s Serenity: Leaves of the Wind.

John Workman managed to turn a love for the comics form into a career. During the past five decades, he has held the position of editor, writer, art director, penciler, inker, colorist, letterer, production director, and book designer for various companies. He created (with some help from Bhob Stewart and Bob Smith) the offbeat stories in Wild Things (with much of that material having first appeared in Star*Reach and Heavy Metal) and both wrote and drew the comics series Sindy, Fallen Angels, and Roma. In 1991, he reflected on model Bettie Page in Betty Being Bad (Eros), and later produced the hardbounds Heavy Metal: 25 Years of Classic Covers and Innocent Images: The Sexy Fantasy Females of Viper and Kiss, as well as The Adventures of Roma, a reformatted graphic novel version of his earlier series. He continues to write and draw and to do a whole lot of lettering for a number of comics companies on an international level.

The Hard Agree podcast team have announced their latest annual Charles Dickens’ Christmas Carol charity podcast, in support of ComicBooks for Kids!

A Hard Agree Christmas Carol is the December 2023 edition of Hard Agree’s annual yuletide charity podcast, featuring host Andrew Sumner and an all-star line-up from comics, movies, TV & theatre performing Charles Dickens’ live recitation of A Christmas Carol in support of ComicBooks for Kids.

The Baltimore Comic Con has announced the appearance of comic guests Mike Gold, Torunn Grønbekk, Andy Price, Bryan SilverBaX, Gustavo Vazquez, and Kelly Yates in 2023. Tickets can be bought online now.

Mike Gold has been the Editor-in-Chief of ComicMix, director of editorial development and a group editor at DC Comics, and editor-in-chief of First Comics, which he helped start. Along the way, he’s worked with such notables as Mike Grell, Howard Chaykin, John Ostrander, Del Close, Tim Truman, Joe Staton, Trevor Von Eden, Bo Hampton, Mark Wheatley, Marc Hempel, and many others on properties such as Green Arrow, The Question, Jon Sable, Freelance, American Flagg!, GrimJack, Starslayer, E-Man, and others.

Torunn Grønbekk is a Norwegian comic book writer and portrait painter. She is best known for her work for Dynamite and Marvel, like Red Sonja, Thor, Punisher: War Journal, Valkyrie, and Venom. She lives and works in Norway (and sometimes in her cabin in the Swedish woods).

She is currently working on Realm of X, Venom, Red Sonja and the upcoming Carnage.

Illustrator and writer Andy Price has been the lead artist for the incredibly successful and record breaking My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic comic books from IDW Publishing. Andy has also done work for Storm King Publishing, BOOM! Studios, Archie Comics, DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Rittenhouse Archives, and LEGO, among others. Other licenses include Adventure Time, Quantum Leap, Dark Shadows, Betty & Veronica, and Star Trek. Andy is a graduate of the Joe Kubert School, and works in most mediums. He lives in Georgia, USA where he watches horror films, scoops cat boxes, and celebrates James T. Kirk’s birthday.

Bryan SilverBaX is an American-born artist and actor who has worked as a police officer and who has served in the US Army as a paratrooper. In 2019, Bryan landed his first professional cover artwork with Metalshark Bro. Since then, he has worked with many publishers and retailers to create cover art that has been on titles from some of the industry’s top notch creators. Bryan has also done licensed and promotional work for some major brands and personalities, to include: SA Fishing Company, ProWrestling Tees, Danny Trejo, Scott Hall, and more. Bryan’s creativity has pushed past just doing mind-blowing cover art. He now works with watercolors to create abstract works and continues to expand his professional action career. You need to keep your eye on Bryan. He is a creative person that could pop up anywhere.

Gus Vazquez is an illustrator who has worked in nearly every field, including comic books, trading cards, storyboarding for music videos, commercials, animation and film, logo design, character and toy design, and more. He started his career in comic books working as an assistant to comic book artists Adam Pollina on X-Force, and Kevin McGuire on Trinity Angels. He got his first solo gig at Marvel Comics drawing the covers and interiors for Sunfire and Big Hero 6, the series that introduced the characters featured in Disney’s Oscar winning Big Hero 6. He has worked on such Marvel titles as Deadpool, X-Force, Spider-Man, What If? Civil War, What If? Back in Black, The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, and more. For DC, he has worked on such titles as Green Lantern, JLA, Blue Beetle, and most recently on Flash, Suicide Squad, and Green Arrow. Gus was the artist on several issues of Claudio Sanchez’s (of rock music group Coheed and Cambria) The Amory Wars, and was instrumental in helping bring together the creative team of his friends, David Atchison (writer) and Tony Shasteen (illustrator), and his niece, film and TV actress Rosario Dawson on 12 Gauge’s The O.C.T. Currently, Gus has been working for DC Comics on The Sasquatch Detective, a backup story which can be found in the pages of Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles, as well as DMC (Daryl Makes Comics) and on La Borinquena. He is also working on his creator-owned book, Fang.

Kelly Yates is an illustrator best known for his work on Doctor Who comics for both Titan and IDW Publishing. His artwork also inspired the My Hero Academia and Doctor Who Kawaii TITANS toy line. In addition, his writes and illustrates the creator-owned books Amber Atoms and MonstHer.

The return of the Baltimore Comic-Con occurs October 22-24, 2021 at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore’s beautiful Inner Harbor. The Baltimore Comic-Con welcomes comic superstars Reilly Brown, Becky Cloonan, Gene Ha, Jim Shooter, Robert Venditti, and Kelly Yates to the 2021 event. Get your tickets now and avoid waiting in additional lines upon your arrival!

New Jersey native Reilly Brown is a best-selling comic book artist and writer for Marvel and DC Comics, known for bringing a sense of character and personality to the projects on which he works, balancing a combination of light-hearted humor with fast paced superhero action. These talents have been on full display in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man, Incredible Hercules, Batman/Fortnite, and many other comics, perhaps most notably Deadpool, Marvel’s infamous, rapid-healing merc-with-a-mouth! He is also a pioneer in digital storytelling, utilizing new ways of making comics for tablets and smart phones with his creator-owned series Power Play, as well as several stories for Marvel, including Deadpool: The Gauntlet, Slapstick, and several others. Reilly currently works with Fabian Nicieza on their creator-owned series Outrage, which can be found on Line Webtoon.

Becky Cloonan began her career making minicomics as part of the Meathaus collective. Since then, she’s gone on to write and draw on titles like Dark Agnes, Conan the Barbarian, The Punisher, True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, Gotham Academy, Detective Comics, and Batman, and working on creator-owned books like Southern Cross and the critically acclaimed collection of short stories, By Chance or Providence. When she’s not making comics, she illustrates album art, and gig and movie posters for My Chemical Romance, Black Sabbath, Adult Swim, and Mondo. She enjoys old movies, true crime podcasts, and still tries to self-publish new minicomics when she can. Becky currently lives in Austin with her partner Michael, two weird cats, and a couple dozen plants.

Four-time Eisner winner Gene Ha is known for his art on Fables and on Alan Moore’s Top 10. He currently writes and draws Mae from Oni Press. It’s the story of Mae Fortell, a girl who follows her long missing sister Abbie to a world of mad science and mystery. Gene lives outside Chicago in Berwyn, IL with his lovely wife Lisa. Jim Shooter started writing Superman and other titles for DC Comics at the age of 13 in 1965. He worked his way through high school writing stories, laying out pages and designing covers. He was hired by Marvel Comics in 1976 as associate editor and in 1978 became Editor in Chief. He introduced benefits, royalties, and other incentives for creators that attracted a legion of phenomenal talents who, under his oversight, authored a decade of brilliant creativity and unparalleled success. Jim wrote several notable series, including the Avengers and Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars. He also headed up the creative teams that developed G.I. Joe and Transformers. Jim went on to found Voyager Communications in 1989, where he was the CEO and President. He also served as Editor in Chief, principal creator, head writer, and occasional artist for the highly acclaimed comics published under the VALIANT imprint, which included Magnus Robot Fighter, Solar Man of the Atom, Harbinger, X-O Manowar, UNITY, and more. 

Robert Venditti is a New York Times best-selling author whose characters and concepts have been adapted to film, television, and video games. He has written the monthly comic book series Hawkman, Justice League, and Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps for DC Comics, X-O Manowar and Wrath of the Eternal Warrior for Valiant Entertainment, and the graphic novel Six Days, inspired by the story of his uncle’s participation in D-Day. His current projects include Superman ’78, Tankers, and a whole lot of things for Bad Idea.

Francesco Francavilla

Eisner and Eagle Award-winning Francesco Francavilla has found a niche in the comics industry with his noir stylings. His Afterlife with Archie from Archie Comics received a Harvey Award nomination in 2014 for Best New Series. He has also provided art on DC Comics’ Detective Comics and Swamp Thing, Marvel’s Black Panther: The Man Without Fear, and you will find his artwork gracing covers for Marvel’s All-New Hawkeye, Master of Kung Fu, and Princess Leia, Archie’s Archie vs. Predator and The Black Hood, and Dynamite Entertainment’s Reanimator and The Twilight Zone: Shadow and Substance. Most recently, you’ll find his covers and interiors on IDW’s Star Wars Adventures: Return to Vader’s Castle. and covers on Archie’s Archie: 1955 and Dynamite Entertainment’s Red Sonja & Vampirella Meet Betty & Veronica.

Ron Randall

Ron Randall started his professional career at DC Comics with a two page back-up story in Unknown Soldier, which was followed by stories in Sgt. Rock, The Warlord, Arak, Son of Thunder, and Swamp Thing. He is well-known for having created Trekker at Dark Horse Comics back in 1987 for Dark Horse Presents, and he published the character again in a new serialized version of the same title starting in 2013. More recently, Ron provided art on Sasquatch Detective Special from DC Comics, and his collected trade paperback Trekker: Chapeltown was published in 2018 by Dark Horse Comics.

Stan Sakai

Best known as writer and artist for his Usagi Yojimbotitle, Stan Sakai first created and published it in 1984, launching in Albedo, a self-published anthology, followed by an appearance in Critters from Fantagraphics in 1985, and finally as its own series from the same publisher in 1987, all in black & white. In 1993, Usagi made the jump to color at Mirage Publishing, and moved to Dark Horse in 1996. In 2019, Usagi Yojimbo moved to IDW Publishing, relaunching with an issue #1. Nearly 30 years of Usagi Yojimbo have seen print in book, TV, and digital formats.

Doug Wagner has been writing comics professionally since 2004 and has worked with a mulititude of companies. The list includes DC Comics, Image Comics, 12-Gauge Comics, Top Cow Productions, Dynamite Entertainment, and Table Taffy Studios. His recent projects include Plastic (April 2017) and The Hard Place (August 2017), both from Image Comics, as is his current Image title, The Ride: Burning Desire. Doug now lives in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah with his lovely wife. His days are filled with fighting deadlines and flirting with distractions.

Kelly Yates

Kelly Yates has provided artwork for Amber Atoms, Tales of Tellos, and The Perhapanautsat Image Comics, numerous Doctor Who titles at IDW, Fear Agent at Dark Horse Comics, and JLA-Z at DC Comics.
