Justice League Unlimited #2 keeps the team dynamic while focusing on J’onn J’onzz

Justice League Unlimited #2

As the Justice League grapples with the ramifications of the Atom Project, a strange alert brings the team to the jungles of South America…and a horrific discovery. Can the elite Justice League strike force save a village from total slaughter? Plus…the mystery of the Darkseid heir deepens, and dissension in the ranks forces Batman’s hand. Justice League Unlimited #2 is an excellent second issue that seeds a lot more to come.

Written by Mark Waid, Justice League Unlimited #2 is another excellent issue to this new direction for the Justice League. The team heads out to South America where kids are being abducted by Parademons! But, something is a bit different about it all and the Justice League needs to figure out more of what’s going on.

Waid has done a fantastic job of not just keeping the comic focused on the team dynamic but also giving us a story that narrows things down to a few characters as well. It balances the big picture meta story and a story you can just pick up and enjoy.

There’s some big things going on in the DC Universe. Darkseid dying has caused a lot of issues like what’s going on with the Parademons but also powers have been switched up a bit. The comic does a solid job of giving all of that and teasing things to come elsewhere. It’s just a hell of a lot of fun with a problem that only the Justice League can solve but also not feeling like it’s some world ending threat.

The art by Dan Mora continues to be great. Tamra Bonvillains color makes the art pop while Ariana Maher‘s lettering delivers solid emotion and excitement. The visuals are great with lots of action and small details, like a busted up Batman, that help tell the story. The Parademons look great and there’s a slight hint at horror with the story still sticking to its hero roots.

Justice League Unlimited #2 is a great second issue that delivers more of the team positive vibe that the creators are going for. Even with threats, the comic has a great feel to it that feels exciting and entertaining. It’s a great team book that knows what it is and delivers.
