Review – Tracker Volume 1 Trade Paperback

Bookmark and Share

A serial killer story with a twist, Tracker is a fairly entertaining series that has it’s issues here and there, but still worth the read.  Written by Jonathan Lincoln with art by Francis Tsai, Derec Donavan and Abhishek Malsuni the series follows an FBI agent tracking down a mysterious serial killer.

Alex O’Roark, the FBI’s top tracker, has his perfect life ripped to shreds when a case to capture the world’s most dangerous serial killer leads him straight into the maw of a werewolf. Now, keeping his secret from his gorgeous fiancé and the FBI, he must hunt down the wolf that infected him before the disease turns him into a monster.

The beginning of the story starts off fantastic.  It’s beyond entertaining and very original.  The pacing is good and interaction with the characters is great.  My only issue is the finale of the series and a break-in/break-out that’s a bit over the top for a series that’s pretty grounded.

It’s entertaining enough though, and a nice first outing for those involved.

Tracker #5 COVA_stampedWritten by Jonathan Lincoln and art by Abhishek MalsuniTracker #5 is a very interesting comic book.  I enjoyed the first issue I ever read in May (#4) and went into this the fifth issue (my second) with an open mind knowing the potential it had.  The comic is an interesting mash-up of an FBI procedural (sort of) with werewolves.  The two together works pretty well.

The first property from Top Cow and Heroes and Villains Entertainment comes to a pulse-pounding conclusion!  FBI tracker Alex O’Roark finally comes face-to-face and claw-to-claw with his maker – the serial killer Herod! But will Alex be able to control his animalistic instincts long enough to extract the sample of Herod’s blood to end his own suffering?

There’s a lot packed into this issue.  The big show down, the scheme to get to that point, some relationship drama and a twist ending that I can’t say I fully got.

My issue with these two issues I’ve read is I didn’t read the first three.  It’s a good comic, they both are, but there’s some built up drama I missed, and a bit of what’s going on that went over my head.  This isn’t a comic book you can just pick up.  This is a five issue arc.  It’ll read great as a trade and as a single issue it would have been better.  Overall I have to say, if you’ve read the first four issues you’ll enjoy the fifth.  For those that are new to the series, definitely pick up the eventual trade.

Review – Tracker #4

Bookmark and Share

Have you heard of Tracker?  Yeah, neither have I.  But I found a preview and review of the fourth issue of the comic series in my inbox this past week.  I was intrigued with the premise.

The first property from Top Cow and Heroes and Villains Entertainment is here!

FBI tracker Alex O’Roark and his partner Jezebel Kendal become more and more desperate to capture serial killer Herod and resort to using a young boy afflicted with lycanthropy as bait. Will the risky gambit come back to bite them?

The series is a different take on the werewolf mythos involving a serial killer and the FBI agent who’s been infected and trying to find a cure.  An interesting twist and one I definitely looked forward to checking out.

The issue saw a team of FBI agents track down the villain Herod’s next victim who turns out to be a young boy.  Where the story goes from there is pretty predictable with debates on how right it is to use a child as bait.  What added to the series was the interaction between the Alex O’Roark his wife and O’Roark’s partner Jezebel Kendal.  There’s potential between that triangle to make the series stand out a bit.

While the plot was pretty predictable, the story was entertaining enough.  How much so?  Check out the extended review below.
