Sabrina the Teenage Witch Returns to Television Courtesy of The CW

Get ready for an intense look into the world of magic and witchcraft with The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, a new one-hour dark drama/horror project based on the classic Archie Comics character. The new project is eyed to debut in The CW‘s 2018-19 television season as a companion to Riverdale. It shouldn’t be surprised to see the series as Riverdale has been a hit for The CW and the comic series it’s based off of is well regarded.

The new show will be written by Archie Comics Chief Creative Officer and Riverdale Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, directed by Lee Toland Krieger, and produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Brothers Studios. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schecter, Jon Goldwater, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lee Toland Krieger serve as executive producers.

Sabrina will draw from the comic book series from Archie Comics written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and artist Robert Hack, detailing the compelling and shocking re-imagining of Sabrina the Teenage Witch’s occult origins. This dark coming-of-age story deals with horror, the occult, and witchcraft and will see Sabrina struggle to reconcile her dual nature of being half-witch and half-mortal while protecting her family and the world from the forces of evil.

Casting and additional news on the new series will be revealed in the months to come.

Archie Celebrates 75 Years with Cake Wars Tonight

The 75th Anniversary Celebration of Archie Comics continues as Publisher/CEO Jon Goldwater will be a guest judge on tonight’s Archie themed episode of Cake Wars on Food Network! Four master cake artists battle to have their Archie-inspired creations at the center of a party celebrating 75 years of the iconic comic book series.

Who will create the cake that catches the judges’ eyes best and wins the $10,000 prize? Will any of the cakes be safe around Jughead and his voracious appetite? Find out tonight only on Food Network!

Archie Comics Movie Announced

archie comicsArchie Comics is proud to announce that Warner Bros. Pictures will be producing a live-action Archie movie based on the Archie Comics characters. This is the first feature film starring the Riverdale gang in the publisher’s 72 year history.

Jason Moore will direct a script by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who is hot off writing Archie Meets Glee, the highly publicized comic book crossover with the popular FOX TV series on which Aguirre-Sacasa serves as writer/producer. Aguirre-Sacasa will also be penning the forthcoming zombie series Afterlife With Archie that was previously announced by Deadline in March.

Roy Lee and Dan Lin will produce, while Jon Goldwater, Krishnan Menon, and Jon Silk will serve as Executive Producers. Details on the story reveal it will be a “high school comedy based on the original line of Archie Comics set in present day Riverdale”.

“We are thrilled to be working with Warner Bros. on this project and have complete faith in their ability to bring Archie to the big screen in a way the fans will love,” said Archie Comics Publisher/Co-CEO Jon Goldwater. “Having Roberto write and Jason direct is Archie’s ‘Dream Team.’ Also, without Dan, Roy, Krish, and Jon, we could not have made this happen.”

“Jason [Moore] and I have been friends for a long time, and this is a complete passion project for everyone involved, ” Aguirre-Sacasa said, “Archie is the ultimate teenager and this movie will be the ultimate teenage movie-in the grand tradition of Sixteen Candles and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. We are so grateful to Jon [Goldwater] for inviting us to this dance.”

[Mighty Thor Cover]San Diego, CA (July 14, 2011)—Once again making a splash at Comic-Con, IDW Publishing today announced the company’s action-packed signing schedule, featuring exclusive appearances with such fan-favorite talent as George R.R. Martin, Walter Simonson, Anne Rice, Joe Hill, Gabriel Rodriguez, Ashley Wood and Kevin Eastman.

“Try and find a booth with more talent in it in San Diego, you won’t!” exclaimed Dirk Wood, IDW’s director of retail marketing, responsible for the impressive signing roster. “We really went all out this year, and while I’m personally already exhausted just thinking about it, fans are going to love being at the IDW booth.”

IDW kicks off Comic-Con with a special Walter Simonson event during preview night, celebrating the launch of the WALTER SIMONSON’S THE MIGHTY THOR: ARTIST’S EDITION with Simonson on hand to sign the SDCC exclusive variant.

Other signing highlights include Anne Rice (Servant of the Bones) on Thursday, George RR Martin (Doorways) on Friday, Michael McMillian (True Blood: Tainted Love) on Friday and Saturday, and Kevin Eastman and a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles party on Saturday. Plus, Eisner nominated Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez (Locke & Key), Comic-Con guest Ashley Wood, and comics historians Dean Mullaney and Craig Yoe will all be headquartered at the IDW booth #2643 throughout the convention.
