Review: Harley Quinn Road Trip Special #1

HARLEY QUINN ROAD TRIP SPECIAL #1It’s the great American summer tradition, but you’ve never seen a road trip quite like this before! Harley, Ivy, and Catwoman are burning rubber across the U.S. of A! We recommend you all stay off the roads for the month of August, just to be safe.

A self-contained, oversized comic for $6, hrmmm. I’ll first off start my review by saying, I’m not a fan of the ongoing Harley comic(s). The humor isn’t my cup of tea, and I say the same thing for Deadpool too. I like the character of Harley Quinn, but prefer mine in New Suicide Squad, where there’s crazy, but it’s not quite as slapstick. If you enjoy it though, you’ll probably enjoy this comic.

The story is a basic road trip, with some ongonig jokes, mostly double entendre and innuendo, none of which got me to laugh, a couple got me to smirk. It’s generally juvenile jokes, that play to the lowest common denominator. I’d say I might have enjoyed this as a teenage comic reader, but I’m not quite sure that’s the case.

You’d have hoped the art would have made up for everything, but the art is just so bad at points, with a small section involving Bizzaro and Jimmy Olsen that was passable. The art falls into a lot of issues I feel like happen in special issues and annuals, where the product is just no where near as good as the main series, and it’s very apparent.

Other than the few pages with Bizzaro and Olsen, this comic is a clunker in both story and art. This one is for the hardcore Harley fans only.
