With one of the team killed, the young, naive members of the Troop must face up to the reality of their situation. They can return to the grim misery of their previous lives – or fully embrace their powers and rain their righteous fury down upon those out to do them harm! Time to decide!

Take a chance at a normal life hiding what you are, or are you willing to use what you have? That seems to be the underlying question in this issue, as everyone tries to have a normal life. At least as normal as they can given they are a more than most humans. Of course that doesn’t end well, as the past comes back to some of them.

Nothing says family, quite like strange coincidences, as they all share one home. Now that the home has become more than just a hideout, the artist does a supreme job filling in the blank spots of the penthouse.  Even the scenes where they attempt to have to a normal life by finding jobs, going to school, working are supremely well done.

I’m curious to see how this story continues, as past and present mingle into a strange tapestry. One thing is certain though, it will be interesting.

The ranks of the Troop continue to swell… teenager torch, Hotshot, and Virus, a little bundle of virulence, have been joined by Torrent, a young girl who gives a whole new meaning to ‘stream’ of consciousness. Now they begin to dig like fingernails in a scab to uncover the secrets of their origins…

In most comics there is an origin story of sort of how, and why the character(s) came to be. While that is common to happen in the first issue, this one takes place in the third issue of The Troop. At least some of it does, anyway, as the main characters learn “how,” and to a limited extent the “why,” they existent. Honestly, the series so far has been a a violent, super-powered thrill ride so far, and I doubt it will end soon.

While the past issues have been been violent, this issue kicks thing up a few notches in both story and art. The art by J. Cassara manages to capture the story’s action packed, conspiracy as Illusion hunts down more of the powered beings. Of course like previous issues, this issue manages to introduce a few more characters. Including a “dead,” boy and an odd Brazilian family.  Both of which have intriguing, and odd styles of being drawn, along with a back story.

Torrent, a young woman who can turn herself into water and travel via people’s bladders! Hotshot, sex bomb and pyro-boy! Virus, a little girl who spreads disease like a plague louse! Superheroes with very little that’s super about them, they have been brought together by a mysterious billionaire who seems keen to protect them from an equally mysterious but far more lethal organization with big guns and cool suits.

The Troop #2 continues the enthralling, action filled story from the first issue with barely a break in the pace. Still managing to contain that adult humor, this issues brings in a few more characters, who have powers. Introducing two of the three new characters with sad, unique, but basic, (hopefully building,) backstories. A third character is revealed but, lacks any backstory except they reveal one very critical thing. She isn’t friendly.  While the title is still new, writer Noel Clarke seems to be creating a large world, and more is waiting to be revealed.

While I can’t show you the end panel, that is one of the most interesting panels in the story. By all means J. Cassara makes good use of their talent to amplify the mystery of the chamber. The artwork throughout is superb, with an excellent degree of realism. Every well drawn scene is detailed, and rarely lacks action.

This pairing is definitely two creators to keep an eye on in the future, and see what they write/illustrate. Looking forward to the next issue, eagerly.
