Independent Publishers Group Goes Direct to Store for Local Comic Shops

Independent Publishers Group (IPG), driven by swift growth in high impact manga, graphic novel, RPG, and comic publishers on its distribution roster, is launching direct-to-store terms for the local comic shop market. This rollout includes competitive terms and marketing vehicles for advance notification and sell-in. 

More than 20 must-have frontlist titles will be featured in IPG’s new seasonal “IPG Impact” catalog, which will be circulated to all stores to drive awareness for our publishers, including NBM Publishing, Kodama, One Peace Books, SHP Comics, Dead Sky Publishing, IPI Comics, Outland Entertainment, Ponent Mon, Black Panel Press, Korero Press, ZeroZero Entertainment, and Invader Comics. This new frontlist augments IPGs large backlist in the category. 

IPG is offering flexible terms and incentives for stores ordering direct:

Retail Trade Returnable: 45% Discount, Free Freight, Net 30, and first order gets an extra 3% discount (48% total).

Retail Trade Nonreturnable: 50% Discount, Free Freight, Net 30, and first order gets an extra 3% discount (53% total).

Tokyopop Expands Trade Distribution with IPG

Independent Publishers Group (IPG) has announced a partnership with Tokyopop. Beginning January 1, 2021, Tokyopop will expand its English language trade distribution through IPG, including retail book and mass merchant accounts. Tokyopop will continue to partner with Diamond Comics to work directly with comic book retailers and expand its offerings within the direct market comic books channel.

Tokyopop has global recognition with a network of over 160 partners in more than 50 countries and 30 languages. Its production arm has produced live-action and animated film and television content based on its extensive intellectual property library, including PriestAmerica’s Greatest OtakuVan Von HunterRiding Shotgun, and a slate of projects currently in development.

A part of this joint distribution includes Tokyopop’s 2021 launch of the new Resident Evil manga and graphic novels line, both digitally and in print, across multiple formats. Laughing Under the Clouds, a highly rated fantasy manga series set in ancient Japan, will also release in early 2021. Additionally, new Disney Manga titles with Tokyopop include an upcoming original The Nightmare Before Christmas story to follow up with its The Nightmare Before Christmas: Zero’s Journey series; a brand-new Descendants story; Stitch and the Samurai, a crossover between an ancient Japanese samurai story and the popular Disney character Stitch; and a color version of its classic Beauty and the Beast manga series. Its LOVE x LOVE imprint will feature the following new highlights: This Wonderful Season With You, from author of Dekoboko Sugar Days, now on its third printing; Still Sick, the final volume of TOKYOPOP’s bestselling Girls Love series; and Our Not-So-Lonely Planet Travel Guide, an LGBTQ+ Boys Love title about traveling around the world and experiencing different cultures.

IPG signs Alterna to an Exclusive Worldwide Book Market Distribution Deal

Continuing to grow in their 10th anniversary year, Alterna Comics has announced an exclusive deal with IPG to expand their print and digital lineup into the global book market. As per the specifications of the deal, Alterna will retain control over their accounts at comiXology and at Diamond Comics Distributors.

Alterna currently has book distribution with Partners Publishers Group but that contract will be coming to a close over the next few months.

IPG will be rolling out Alterna’s lineup in their Fall Catalog with frontlist titles and key backlist titles that will see release dates between September 2016 and March 2017.  Planned frontlist releases are The Chair (SEP 2016), Corktown (SEP 2016), The Alterna Anniverseries Anthology (OCT 2016), IF Anthology: Super Powers (NOV 2016).
