This March, Kamala Khan returns to Jersey City as a full-fledged member of the X-Men in Ms. Marvel: Mutant Menace!

A sequel to last year’s acclaimed Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant limited series, Ms. Marvel: Mutant Menace will once again be written by Marvel Studios’ own Ms. Marvel, actress Iman Vellani, and writer Sabir Pirzada. Joining them this time around will be artist Scott Godlewski, who recently made his Marvel Comics debut in the Fall of X tie-in series Alpha Flight.

Ms. Marvel: Mutant Menace sees Kamala continue to adjust to her mutant identity as she makes her way back home following her explosive first mission with the X-Men. Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant #4 hit stands today, delivering the conclusion to Kamala Khan’s first mission as a member of the X-Men! After taking down a Stark Sentinel and disrupting an Orchis operation singlehandedly, it’s safe to say Ms. Marvel has proven herself beyond a doubt to the mutant cause, and this pivotal chapter is far from over! This March, Marvel Studios’ own Ms. Marvel Iman Vellani and Sabir Pirzada return to chronicle Ms. Marvel’s next steps into exploring her mutant identity in Ms. Marvel: Mutant Menace!

The four-issue limited series will continue to cement Ms. Marvel’s role in the X-Men mythos while staying true to the character’s roots and celebrating what makes her such a standout hero in the Marvel Universe. Her upcoming adventure will take her back to Jersey City, where she’ll have to confront another Fall of X related threat while dealing with the fallout of being outed as a mutant. This time around, co-writers Vellani and Pirzada will be joined by Scott Godlewski, who made his Marvel debut in the recent Alpha Flight series, while Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant artist Carlos Gómez provides the series’ covers.

UNDERCOVER UNDER ORCHIS’ NOSE! Ms. Marvel’s mission makes her a target for Orchis, but they have no idea they’re looking for a completely normal teenage girl in their summer science program. Thankfully, Iron Man and Emma Frost are able to stop by and show Kamala how to fly under the radar!

Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant #2

Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant #2 feels like classic X-Men meets Ms. Marvel

Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant #2

Ms. Marvel’s mission makes her a target for Orchis, but they have no idea they’re looking for a completely normal teenage girl in their summer science program. Thankfully, Iron Man and Emma Frost are able to stop by and show Kamala how to fly under the radar! Sort of. Kind of. Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant #2 feels like a nice mix of classic Ms. Marvel with a classic X-Men spin.

Written by Iman Vellani and Sabir Pirzada, Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant #2 has a high alert going on as Ms. Marvel’s presence is known and Orchis is on the lookout. What’s solid about Vellani and Pirzada’s story is the focus on Kamala being caught so off guard by all of this.

The duo does an excellent job of showing how uneasy she is in her new role. She’s caught between so many worlds, taking the classic X-Men theme to new levels it feels like and doing it well. You get a sense of her struggling and trying to figure out what’s right and what’s to do.

There’s also this intriguing aspect of Kamala and her dreams. It creates a bit more to the story and the mystery and this issue shows, it’ll play a pretty integral part of what’s to come. Before, it felt like it was part of Kamala’s trauma but what’s presented makes it seem like that and more.

The art by Carlos Gómez and Adam Gorham is solid. With color by Erick Arciniega and lettering by Joe Caramagna, the comic’s look feels like a mix like previous Ms. Marvel series and some of the more recent X-Men comics. What’s also nice is that even though the story can feel dark at times, the art reflects a bit of sunshine and hope and doesn’t linger on gloomy visuals. It feels like a comic that Ms. Marvel herself would enjoy and appreciate (if that makes sense).

Yes, Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant #2 continues a rather controversial new status-quo for the character. But, the comic is actually good! It feels like a natural progression and Kamala struggles with this new reality like many readers are. The comic also takes what could easily be a rather downer of a comic and story and puts the usual Ms. Marvel spin on it with a dash of humor and hope. Overall, a pleasant surprise that captures the youthful and kinetically fun nature of the character.

Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant #1 is a fun debut issue that is part coming of age and part spy thriller

Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant #1

As you grow up, you begin to form what will become your identity. As you learn about your family, you actually find out about yourself. This si where we understand how we are the way we are. That is why it is important, that you have people who can guide you.

As you search for answers, those who have been there can guide you.  That is why teachers are important and why family history is as well.  So what happens when you find something new bout yourself and you find out that there is a great burden that may come with it? In Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant #1, Kamala is about to find out how her world is going to change as she becomes an X-Man.

Kamala has gone through a lot lately. She died. She was ressurected. She found out she was a mutant as well as being an Inhuman. This has caused her to to be unsettled and the comic reflects that with her fighting her nightmares as the comic opens up. She’s confronted by her identity and the important questions around them. But, that’s just a tease of the struggles to come as it’s the first day of a summer internship with Orchis! Having recently discovered that she is a mutant ,she joins the fight against the evil group and is tasked with investigating the corporation responsible for the Mutant Massacre. Something is going on by them within the campus, the question is what and it’s up to Kamala to discover it but she’s a hero at heart and what was supposed to be an undercover operation results in Kamala revealing Ms. Marvel has joined the X-Men as she saves some students resulting in a lot of backlash and raising flags for Orchis.

Overall, Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant #1 is a fun debut issue that is part coming of age and part spy thriller. The story that Iman Vellani and Sabir Pirzada have crafted is an absolute joy. The art by the creative team is gorgeous. Altogether, it’s a story that will exceed fan’s expectations.
