Allplay Announces Three New Lines of Games

Allplay announced at a Gen Con that they are expanding their roster of games with three new product lines. The new lines (Masterworks, Epics, and Creations) will focus on heavy eurogames, large-scale adventure games, and IP/fandom-based games, respectively.

Ian O’Toole is working with Allplay on the “Masterworks” line. O’Toole will be a key partner in the art, graphic design, curation, and development of the project. The first Masterworks game will be a remake of Dominant Species.

The “Epics” line contains Sail Legacy, the two-player legacy trick-taking game that hit Kickstarter last year. In addition, an ambitious new game called Crash Landed tasks players with surviving on a strange planet, is coming to the line in 2027.

“Creations” is where Allplay will create games for fandoms, sometimes working with IP partners. Have a Magical Day (designed by John D. Clair) taps into the amusement park crowd, with players riding the best rides, meeting characters, and eating unique food.

Allplay has also announced a sequel of Reiner Knizia’s Through The Desert, Through The Mountains.

Through The Mountains is slated for an October 2026 Kickstarter campaign. Dominant Species, Crash Landed, and Have a Magical Day are coming to Kickstarter in 2027.

Allplay has announced a new “Masterworks” line of games in partnership with artist Ian O’Toole. The first game announced for it is Dominant Species!

Dominant Species was released in 2010 and considered a modern classic. Designed by Chad Jensen, each player assumes the role of one of six major animal classes and through placement on a board, strive to become dominant on as many different terrain tiles as possible. It all builds to the ice age where the player who accumulates the most victory points will have their animal crowned the Dominant Species!

The game has been published by numerous publishers and while highly rated and regarded, it’s a pretty complex game with games lasting many hours.

It’s also the type of game that is perfect for Kickstarter and higher quality production and price point.

Marvel Comes to Mondo and Restoration Games’ Unmatched

Mondo and Restoration Games have teamed up with Marvel to create several additions to their Unmatched line of miniatures dueling tabletop games planned for release beginning in thesummer of 2021. Four new sets have been announced:

  • Redemption Row – featuring Luke Cage, Ghost Rider, and Moon Knight
  • Hell’s Kitchen – featuring Daredevil, Elektra, and Bullseye
  • Teen Spirit – featuring Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, and Cloak and Dagger
  • For King and Country – featuring Black Widow, Black Panther, and Winter Soldier

Unmatched veteran artists Heather Vaughan, Oliver Barrett, and Ian O’Toole will be joined by Matt Taylor and Sanford Greene as the key illustrators for the line. The combined weight of their contributions to the worlds of gaming, comics, and entertainment is staggering; fans can expect each standalone title to be as visually impactful as they are mechanically sound. 

Since debuting at Gen Con in August of 2019, Unmatched has released seven titles featuring 19 heroes sourced from myth, literature, television, and movies – presenting players with nearly two hundred possible 2-player battle scenarios. The upcoming Marvel editions will offer 66 possible in-world combat pairings and will feature unique gameplay additions building off the core game ruleset.
