Review – Hotwire: Deep Cut #3

Hotwire Deep Cut #3I still have the same feelings as I did after reading the second issue.  Hotwire: Deep Cut #3 is entertaining, with very unique coloring, but I’m still torn as to how much I recommend the series.  The story is interesting, and creative.  But there’s something that’s not quite clicking for me.  It’s not bad, but also nothing that blows me away.

Alice Hotwire is locked in a bitter race against Burtus Rantz and his gang of mercenaries, to hunt down the phantom soldier. Plowing through the busy streets, and a panicking population, they face a final showdown at the city hospital where Rantz has set his trap. But, unknown to the two ghost hunting antagonists, the soldier’s hostage is not yet beyond help. Can they set aside their deadly rivalry in time to save a mother and child on the edge of death?

Created by Steve Pugh and Warren Ellis, written and art by Pugh Hotwire is definitely an entertaining series.  The third issue wraps up the ghosts running around causing all sorts of issues.  It’s a fine read and way to end this volume, but at the same time I can’t say I was completely satisfied.  But, what’s odd is I couldn’t tell you what I’d change.

Everything is very unique.  Nothing quite pops like this series (especially digitally on an iPad).  But, I can’t say I’m too invested in the characters of the world.  I can’t quite call this a “buy”, but it’s a solid “read.”

Hotwire: Deep Cut #2 CoverHotwire: Deep Cut #2 is a series I’m torn about.  I really enjoy the bright colors and art is very unique in it’s hue.  The story is interesting, and creative.  But there’s something that’s not quite clicking for me.  It’s not bad, but also nothing that blows me away.

While Bertus Rantz and his private security contractors investigate a crash, Detective Exorcist Alice Hotwire cools her heels in a detention cell – only to emerge to the cheers of her co-workers in the police force. As Alice avoids her fellow officers and deals with a rampaging Rantz as well as her paranormal ex-boyfriend, a blue-light housed in a robotic body has taken one of the crash victims on her own accord…but for what purpose? Can Hotwire and Mobey uncover the truth of the car crash and discover the identity of this mysterious entity before Rantz finishes his crusade against all blue-lights?

Created by Steve Pugh and Warren Ellis, written and art by Pugh Hotwire is definitely an entertaining series.  Picking up where the first issue left off, a pursuit is on for the individual who caused the car pile up, and it has a hostage who doesn’t quite understand the predicament she’s in.

Everything is very unique.  Nothing quite pops like this series (especially digitally on an iPad).  But, I can’t say I’m too invested in the characters of the world.  I can’t quite call this a “buy”, but it’s a solid “read.”

An interesting series that focuses on a future where the dead wander aimlessly and police are charged with dispatching them.  Hotwire: Deep Cut #1 stands out not for the story, but instead, the use of colors is impressive.  The entire issue glows in neon with the use of almost fluorescent colors.

Detective Exorcist Alice Hotwire is back! After the events of Hotwire: Requiem for the Dead, the city’s only supernatural investigator is taking some much needed R&R. But when a Blue Light from her colored past appears in front of her door, it sparks a series of events that lead Hotwire and Mobey across the city attempting to stop the results of a secret government project from turning the city into another living nightmare. With backup from Coroner Love and Metro Police, can Hotwire and Mobey save the day one more time? Join groundbreaking creator/writer/illustrator Steve Pugh for a glimpse into Alice Hotwire’s past and peer through a gateway into her future.

Created by Steve Pugh and Warren Ellis, written and art by Pugh Hotwire is definitely an entertaining series.  I haven’t read the previous arc, but was quickly caught up and didn’t feel like I missed anything.  The characters are interesting and art and coloring definitely unique.  Overall, this is one of the other Radical Publishing comics for the week that I’d recommend checking out.
