A for Anonymous (Bold Type Books) – A graphic novel that focuses on the hacktivists that took on some powerful targets.
Far Sector #5 (DC Comics/DC’s Young Animal) – This series is the best thing DC is releasing with fantastic artwork and entertaining story. It’s not too late to get started reading this one.
Ghostbusters: Year One #3 (IDW Publishing) – The series has been a lot of fun as it spotlights each member of the team giving us a little more insight into the beloved characters.
Heavy Vinyl: Y2K-O (BOOM! Studios) – The comic series goes graphic novel and in this chapter, the girls enter a Battle of the Bands to stop a shadowy corporation from destroying the world of digital music and blame it on Y2K.
Hellions #1 (Marvel) – The latest addition to Marvel’s X-Men relaunch that brings together some of the villains on Krakoa.
On the Stump #2 (Image Comics) – In this world, politicians pass legislation by battling it out in the ring. Seeing politicians getting punch is somewhat cathartic right now. Plus, it’s just a really good comic.
Transformers vs. Terminator #1 (IDW Publishing) – It’s Transformers and the Terminator mashed-up. How are we not excited for this one!?
Wolverine #2 (Marvel) – The first issue was amazing and we’re hoping the second is just as good. This is the highlight of Marvel’s X-relaunch so far.
X-O Manowar #1 (Valiant) – The debut issue is fantastic for long time fans and new readers. An amazing first issue that’s a hell of a lot of fun.

Billionaire Island #1 (AHOY Comics) – Welcome to Billionaire Island where anything goes if you can afford it. A new savage satire from Mark Russell and Steve Pugh.
Ghostbusters: Year One #2 (IDW Publishing) – The first issue was great adding in some fantastic unknown history to the classic team.
The Goon #9 (Albatross Funnybooks) – One of the best comics out there. Always fun and entertaining mixing humor, action, and amazing art.
Hellfighter Quin #1 (Mad Cave Studios) – Harlem’s own vigilante is brought out of retirement to fight in a tournament to get control over a mystical stone.
Join the Future #1 (AfterShock) – In the future megacities reward citizens and rural residents cling to their independence. What happens when a nearby megacity pressures a small town to join them?
King of Nowhere #1 (BOOM! Studios) – A man awakens on the outskirts of a village called Nowhere with no memory of how he got there.
Marvel #1 (Marvel) – Alex Ross’ original vision comes to print as an anthology of stories exploring the Marvel universe.
Strange Academy #1 (Marvel) – So, Gotham Academy with a little Harry Potter thrown in? Yeah, we’re in.
Strange Adventures #1 (DC Comics/DC Black Label) – Tom King, Mitch Gerads, and Evan Shaner are together again in what’s sure to be one of the best comics of the year.

The Beat – What’s Michael?
We know the story of the Ghostbusters from numerous films, animated shows, and comics. But, what about that first year in business: Ghostbusters: Year One #1 kicks off the untold stories of our favorite paranormal investigators.
Written by Erik Burnham, Ghostbusters: Year One #1 focuses on the “newest” of the original Ghostbusters, Winston Zeddemore. Framed as an interview with a journalist writing a book, we get to learn some details about his experience joining the team.
Burnham adds in details that fit quite well with what we know. It’s a nice “in addition” as opposed to a retcon. We learn about what Winston was doing before joining the team and even get to see some more of the questions he was asked in his interview. But, most importantly, we learn more about him as a person and how he fit into the group and his training. It’s a great example of expanding a known universe.
The art by Dan Schoening with color by Luis Antonio Delgado is unique and stands out. It’s a style you don’t see elsewhere with a cartoon-like quality about it. Schoening’s style is one that you don’t see elsewhere and it’s hard to describe. There’s a slight homage to the cartoon series but at the same time it’s own style. What’s solid is it works for the ghosts. It doesn’t skew to horror but still fits that genre. Delgado’s colors are key with the ethereal popping from the page. Neil Uyetake‘s lettering is also key in giving the ghosts a voice to themselves through the lettering style.
Ghostbusters: Year One #1 kicks off what feels like could be a fun series. I also expect there’s more to what’s presented. The team has a nice grasp of fitting in new knowledge and deliver enough winks and nods for long-time fans. A must for fans of Ghostbusters or want a good chuckle.

After defeating Gozer and becoming heroes in the city, county, and state of New York, a publisher has decided to cash in with a biography of the Boys in Grey and sends a writer to interview them all for background. He starts with WINSTON ZEDDEMORE, the first ‘buster hired into the supernatural start-up. Winston relates the story of his very first bust, so we can finally know what kind of… ahem, stuff he’s seen that’ll will turn you white!

Atlantis Attacks #1 (Marvel) – Marvel has been building to something involving Namor and we’re in for another piece of that bigger picture puzzle.
Batman #87 (DC Comics) – The new team has taken Batman in a new direction and all of the themes and upcoming stories hinted at in the last issue has us intrigued enough to see what else there is to come.
Ghostbusters: Year One #1 (IDW Publishing) – Never before seen adventures of the first year of the team after they’ve defeated Gozer.
Guardians of the Galaxy #1 (Marvel) – The team has saved the universe once again and decided to relax and take a vacation. But the returned Olympians ravaging the universe have a different plan. A new volume that seems to be the main series so much of Marvel’s Cosmic Universe will revolve around.
Kidz #1 (Ablaze) – Ablaze is an up and coming new publisher whose material has been solid so far. This zombie apocalypse has a twist in focusing on young boys whose world is turned upside down when some girls come to town.
Once & Future #6 (BOOM! Studios) – A fantastic modern fantasy series that plays with Arthurian legend. Well worth checking out.
Runaway Princess (Random House Graphic) – The publisher kicks off their new line of graphic novels with this one that follows the adventures of a Princess who has runaway. Kids’ comics are an explosive business and it’s always interesting to see the new releases and imprints focused on that audience.
Vampire State Building #4 (Ablaze) – Vampire survival goodness taking place in the Empire State Building. It’s just entertaining, solid, horror, and action.
The Visitor #2 (Valiant) – The Visitor targets the world’s leaders in this very intriguing series from Valiant written by Paul Levitz that has us wanting to see more and how it fits into the Valiant big picture.
Wonder Woman #750 (DC Comics) – It’s a huge issue with a who’s who of creators celebrating the iconic character. There’s also stories that will define Wonder Woman, and the DC Universe, going forward.
