Exclusive: The First-Ever Weird Tales Graphic Novel gets Weird Tales T-Shirts

First published in 1923, the iconic pulp magazine Weird Tales defined the horror and fantasy genres and helped give rise to icons such as H.P. Lovecraft, Robert E. Howard, Ray Bradbury, and C.L. Moore. A century later, Monstrous is teaming up with Weird Tales Magazine to publish the first-ever official Weird Tales graphic novel. — an ambitious adaptation and expansion of the legendary magazine — featuring covers by legendary artists Kelley Jones and Eric Powell. The Weird Tales graphic novel features adaptations of seminal stories and original stories, including:

  • “Doctor Satan vs. Jules de Grandin” by James Aquilone, winner of the Bram Stoker Award-winning Kolchak: The Night Stalker: 50th Anniversary and the anthology Shakespeare Unleashed, with art by Dave Swartz (Confederate Monster)
  • Michael Avallone’s “The Man Who Walked on Air” — adapted by Chilling Adventures of Sabrina artist Robert Hack and David Avallone, the acclaimed writer and son of Michael Avallone.
  • An original Lovecraft Mythos Story by Peabody Award-winning screenwriter and producer Rodney Barnes (Killadelphia) with art by Lukas Ketner (Count Crowley)
  • C.L. Moore’s “Shambleau” — adapted by artist George Quadros (Sumerian) and Blake Northcott (Catwoman)

The graphic novel will be 8.5 by 11-inch prestige hardcover and the campaign will include multiple limited edition tiers with multiple collectible covers and exclusive rewards, including a Weird Tales challenge coin, T-shirts, and more.

Exclusive: Kolchak Challenge Coin from Monstrous Books revealed!

Throughout the course of the fan-favorite 1970s TV show, legendary reporter Carl Kolchak went toe-to-toe with all manner of otherworldly fiends. Now, he will take on his most fearsome foes yet — Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Werewolf! Monstrous Books presents a three-issue series of stand-alone comics as well as a deluxe hardcover collection from an all-star lineup of creators coming to Kickstarter this October. 

Actor and Writer David Dastmalchian will team-up with Count Crowley artist Lukas Ketner, and colorist Zac Atkinson, for a Kolchak – Count Crowley 22-page comic book crossover in “Kolchak Meets the Werewolf and Count Crowley,” featuring a cover by Ketner and a variant from superstar artist Matt WagnerRodney Barnes will be writing a 22-page comic book thriller titled “Kolchak Meets Dracula,” with art by Eisner-award nominated artist Alex Lins with a cover by Colton Worley. And Steve Niles will be collaborating with artist George Quadros, and colorist Zac Atkinson on a 22-page comic book called “Kolchak Meets Frankenstein” with a cover from Russ Braun. Monstrous Book will publish a deluxe, hardcover edition of Kolchak Meets the Classic Monsters, featuring all three stories and an all-new cover by Dave Acosta

The Kickstarter campaign for Kolchak: The Night Stalker Meets the Classic Monsters features comics, graphic novels, and for the first-ever officially licensed Kolchak trading cards and a limited-edition challenge coin.
