Five Points Fest and Toy Pizza Expo Bring Designer Toys to Beacon, NY!

Toy Pizza Experience 2025

Think you have to go to New York City or Los Angeles to immerse yourself in the designer toy scene? Well, no longer — the infamous Five Points Festival is taking over the town of Beacon, NY! About an hour north of NYC, the town was already the home to the underground Toy Pizza Experience, and now the two events are teaming up to make a weekend to remember!

Running June 7th to June 8th at the Yard, the events will present a variety of events, including music, movies, tattoos and of course toys! Toy vendors will include the Four Horsemen, Onell Design and Plunderlings, as well as dozens of other independent toy makers! Plus, former ToyFare Magazine editor Zach Oat will be signing his new book of toy photography, Wild Toys, in the free-for-all Toy Pizza section!

At the local movie theater, The Beacon, you can catch Godzilla (1954), Ghidorah, The Three Headed Monster (1964) and Dune (1982)! In the Tattoo Zone, you can get inked up to your heart’s content by dozens of amazing artists! And on stage, you can hear hot bands like Zed Star Seven and even catch a burlesque show!

The show will run from 11-10 Saturday and 11-6 Sunday at The Yard, located at 11 Hanna Lane in Beacon.

The Outer Space Men are Celebrating 50 Years of Toy Innovation at Five Points Festival!

Hitting the scene in 1968 and licensed to Colorforms, The Outer Space Men were a group of seven bendable action figures designed by toy inventor Mel Birnkrant. Each of the original seven figures represented beings from other planets in our solar system including Alpha 7, The Man From Mars; Astro-Nautilus, The Man From Neptune; Commander Comet, The Man From Venus; Colossus Rex, The Man From Jupiter; Electron+, The Man From Pluto; Orbitron, The Man From Uranus; and Xodiac – The Man From Saturn.

After their initial success, they faded from the public eye in 1969 after man walked on the moon. It was in 2008 that wall street executive and co-owner of The Outer Space Men, Gary Schaeffer, published the long-awaited graphic novel reintroducing a whole new generation to The Outer Space Men world. With the huge success of the graphic novel, Birnkrant and Schaeffer issued a license to the four horsemen studios (seventh kingdom, mythic legions, masters of the universe) and released a new series of action figures.

To celebrate this auspicious occasion Clutter Studios has produced an 8ft tall Colossus Rex. Working for the past 4 months, Clutter Studios used 3D scanning and printing technology, to scan one of the original Colossus Rex figures and upscale it to both 12” and 8 ft tall. 3D printing both versions, Clutter Studios assembled and finished an 8ft version with full articulation and a genuinely deadly two-handed battle mace!

Be the first to see the amazing new 12” Colossus Rex in person, and take a photo with the awesome 8ft sculpture.

Five Points Festival is Working With the Next Generation of Toy Designers

Five Points Festival, a designer toy, street, and alternative art festival is excited to announce an amazing partnership, working with the next generation to further their education.

Students of the industrial design program, under Professor Ryan Rutherford in the Robert Busch School of Design within the Michael Graves College at Kean University, have been working hard to create a marketable, well designed character, to produce and sell in a real-world experience model. The character they created, titled OTTO, was then sculpted in clay and molded in silicone. Five Points Festival is excited to have partnered with the program to provide exhibition space for the students to create and sell their goods LIVE!

Professor Ryan Rutherford, with over fifteen years of industry experience, and the creator of more than  85 patents, is responsible for one of the best selling dog toys of all time; Cuz! He is also the recipient of the 2012 Designer Toy Award for Best Self Produced designer toy, the incredibly popular Ice Scream Man.

As such a prominent figure in the industrial design, and the designer toy world, Rutherford understands the importance of teaching the next generation of designers. As a professor at Kean University he has been imparting the values of good design on his students.  Their course will culminate with a live demonstration at the 2nd Annual Five Points Festival, in Brooklyn NY!

Guests to Five Points Festival will be able to experience the process – from the spark of an idea to buyer ready product. Pieces will be made to order using Brutherford Industries‘ roto-casting technology and packaged right before your eyes!

Clutter Magazine & LeftField Media Launch New Take On Comic Con

Clutter Magazine and LeftField Media have announced details around the inaugural Five Points Festival, a designer toy and comic art convention debuting May 20-21 in Lower Manhattan. A showcase for artists, designers, and brands focused on independent art, entertainment, and lifestyle, Five Points is presented by Midtown Comics, sponsored by Playcrafting, and built with major support from brands including Cotton Candy Machine, Kidrobot, the LISA Project, Popaganda, Super7, and Toy Tokyo. The Five Points Festival will play host to guests including Bryan Lee O’Malley, Elsa Charretier, Greg Capullo, Huck Gee, Ron English, Scott Wilkowski, Sean Gordon Murphy, and Tara McPherson.

Boutique event organizer LeftField Media is no stranger to Comic Cons – it was founded by Greg Topalian, the creator of New York Comic Con, and is home to a veteran team with experience building over 50 pop culture conventions around the planet – but Five Points isn’t like any of the wave of Comic Cons which have sprouted up recently. Replacing a model centered on celebrity appearances and autographs, the Five Points Festival puts its focus absolutely on artists and is a celebration of comic creators, designer toy makers, and the culture they create.

LeftField’s partner in Five Points is Clutter, a cornerstone of the US designer toy scene, responsible for the only English-language art toy magazine, gallery, and awards ceremony. Coming to Five Points with a wealth of relationships and an outsider’s eye, Clutter’s challenged much of the common expectations of a Comic Con and brought forward a roster of dynamic guests and very different experiences…

  • Five Points will take place in Pier 36 in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Pier 36 is a modern, robust venue filled with natural light in one of NYC’s most artistic neighborhoods against the backdrop of the East River.
  • The Five Points Artist Alley will bring together over 100 comic creators crossing the indie, alternative, and mainstream worlds. A gathering point for unique writers and artists, Five Points’ Artist Alley guest list already counts Amy Reeder, Annie Wu, Ben Templesmith, Brandon Montclare, Christopher Hastings, Cliff Chiang, David Gallaher, Elsa Charretier, James Tynion IV, Ivan Brandon, Joe Harris, Khary Randolph, Leslie Hung, Magdalene Visaggio, Patrick Thomas Parnell, Sean Galloway, Sean Gordon Murphy, and Tini Howard, and the Midtown Comics booth will play host to additional high profile signings with megastar names including Bryan Lee O’Malley and Greg Capullo.
  • A home to the best of the designer toy world, Five Points will pull together more art toy makers and brands than any other event on the East Coast with names including Amanda Spayd, Boundless Brooklyn, Chris Ryniak, Expanded Universe with James Groman, Gary Ham, Huck Gee, Instinct Toy, Jason Freeny, Jeff Lamm, LuluBell, Martian Toys, Mighty Jaxx, Mishka, myplasticheart, The Outer Space Men, Ron English, Scott Wilkowski, Skull Toys with Punk Drunkers & Goccodo, Tara McPherson, Tenacious Toys, Tim Clarke, Rampage Toys, and Rotofugi.
  • Shining a spotlight on artists working with pixels and bits, Playcrafting will present a hands-on showcase where fans can play a survey of the independent video games sculpted right in NYC.
  • Creation of a permanent mural in Lower Manhattan, a larger-than-life installation in partnership with the LISA Project.
  • Five Points will host a large Craft Beer Garden headlined by a selection of NYC beers. In line with its focus on artistry, the Five Points Beer Garden will offer tastes of artistic beers brewed in and around New York City, and side-by-side with craft beer, Five Points will present a Food Truck Food Court featuring a curated selection of NYC’s most acclaimed artisan food trucks.
  • And Five Points will kick off with the 2017 edition of the Designer Toy Awards. The DTAs are the largest award ceremony in the art toy world and open to designers, comic creators, and fans.

Day and weekend tickets are available now on fivepointsfest.com and will be available at all Midtown Comics locations in late February. Additionally, a VIP ticket which includes extended weekend admission hours, entry to the Designer Toy Awards, and an exclusive limited edition Dunny made only for Five Points is available for a limited time on the Five Points website.

Further designer toy artists, comic creators, brands, and features will be announced over the coming weeks and months, as will details on show exclusives, parties, and special events.
