Exclusive: Giulia Lalli’s Dragonproof cover revealed!

AHOY Comics has made its reputation on witty satires, acclaimed creators, and a commitment to telling bold and risk-taking stories—including the acclaimed Black’s Myth graphic novels by writer Eric Palicki. Now Palicki and AHOY Comics are teaming up once again for Dragonproof, a graphic novel written by Palicki and illustrated by acclaimed artist Giulia Lalli. The stand-alone 80-page story is about a directionless twentysomething who unexpectedly finds herself the champion of an endangered population of dragons. Dragonproof is coming soon to Kickstarter.

Somewhere in the Pacific Northwest on an ill-fate camping trip, Ashleigh Cole stumbles upon a dying dragon in the woods, its hide peppered with bullet wounds and tattooed with U.S. military markings. Ash returns to her mundane life, convinced her experience in the woods was all just a hallucination—until she begins to display some oddly dragonlike characteristics herself. Compelled by voices in her mind, Ash undertakes a mission to rescue other captive dragons and help the mythical creatures escape—but the shadowy government organization determined to turn them into weapons of mass destruction has other plans.

Summit Comics Launches a Small Press Superhero Universe

Summit Comics is a new comics collective set to launch a new shared comics universe after the first of the year. It features characters new and old and over a dozen creatives who’ve collectively raised nearly half a million dollars on Kickstarter. Summit will tell tales in a single shared world, allowing characters and storylines to jump over from one creator-owned title to the next.

At the root of it all will be Summit: Pinnacle, an annual anthology featuring short stories from all corners of the Summit Universe. Those shorts will then continue on in Summit Jump, a bi-monthly release inspired by weekly shōnen manga titles. Select characters will then receive their own limited series.

The Summit Universe will then carry over into standalone titles such as Travis Gibb’s Upheaval, and CJ Hudson’s Granite.

Music and Horror Join Forces in Dead Beats from A Wave Blue World

Indie comic publisher A Wave Blue World has launched a Kickstarter campaign for Dead Beats, a horror anthology inspired by SyFy’s Haunted Collector and CBS’s Twilight Zone, incorporating music themes to bring an additional edge.  

Dead Beats, curated by Eric Palicki and Joe Corallo, will be feature a diverse group of industry-shaping storytellers and artists, including recently announced Dwayne McDuffie Award winners Ivy Noelle Weir and Christina “Steenz” Stewart, GLAAD Nominated Magdalene Visaggio, Emmy-nominated writer of Late Show With Stephen Colbert’s Daniel Kibblesmith, Doom Patrol’s Rachel Pollack and Richard Case, Suicide Squad’s Vita Ayala, Women in Comics Collective International co-founder Regene Sawyer, and more.

This music-themed horror anthology centers around the proprietor of a music store that contains a number of unusual artifacts. As the “shoppe keeper” guides readers through the shop, each creator will weave a haunting tale revealing the origin of these mysterious items.
