San Diego Comic-Con

It’s a huge week for comics this week with the return of San Diego Comic-Con. We’ll have as much coverage as we can from a distance and to star the week we have some news from the weekend you might have missed.

Kotaku – Your Favorite Manga Isn’t More Important Than The Creator’s Health – Yes, much more important.

Comicbook – Manga Pirate Sentenced After Unusual Lawsuit Ruling – Interesting.

ICv2 – Eaglemoss Files for Administration – That’s a bummer.

ICv2 – People on the Move: Tara Lehmann to TKO – A lot of staffing changes in recent weeks.

The Mary Sue – Dear San Diego Comic-Con, Can We Still Have Virtual Panels? – Baffling why more conventions haven’t pivoted to this in addition to the in-person events. Charge some money to view and it’s added revenue!

Eaglemoss’ Die-Cast Club Allows You to Build the Titanic

Eaglemoss’ Die-Cast Club Titanic

Eaglemoss’ Die-Cast Club is releasing a 1:250 scale model of the fabled RMS Titanic. Featuring exceptional levels of detail, the replica is constructed in the traditional model ship style of an internal frame made from MDF and wood, with other parts made from brass, high-quality die-cast metal, plastic, and other materials. When fully assembled, the model will measure an impressive 42.4in (107.6cm) in length.

What makes this magnificent build-up replica really stand out is the wealth of features that can be found right across the model, from bow to stern. As on the real Titanic, the boat deck is crafted from real wood, with the fine detailing extending to the lifeboats, cranes, chains, winches, and other deck fixtures as replicated from the full-size vessel. The two wooden masts provide a frame for the ship’s intricate rigging and communication lines, while Titanic’s four grand funnels dominate the vessel’s striking silhouette. Easy to construct using glue, a few basic tools, and concise assembly instructions, the model is guaranteed to become a show-stopping centerpiece once completed.

As part of the collection, subscribers will receive two sets of lights to give the model even more of a wow factor. Fitted inside the hull, an internal light kit dramatically illuminates the cabin portholes as well as the translucent roofs on the deck. External lighting consist of green and red LED navigation lights positioned on the port and starboard sides of the bridge. With both light sets turned on in a dark room, it makes for a truly breathtaking display.

Build the RMS Titanic is delivered via a unique subscription program that begins with a shipment of the first two sets of precision-engineered parts. Also included is a feature-packed magazine, which as well as incorporating the model’s assembly instructions traces the history of this opulent ocean liner, describes what life was like onboard for all classes of passenger, and takes a look at the poignant stories of the survivors and those who lost their lives. And, of course, no Titanic publication would be complete without an examination of the unique set of circumstances that led to this supposedly “unsinkable” ship hitting an iceberg and plummeting to the freezing depths of the Atlantic on that fateful night in April, 1912.  Each subsequent monthly shipment is accompanied by another informative magazine, plus four further sets of model parts.

Over the course of the program, subscribers are sent several exclusive gifts at no extra cost, including tools, a display base, and a binder. Together worth over $110, these will help build and display the model, and keep the magazines together. It all amounts to a comprehensive subscription program that offers everything for Titanic aficionados, model builders, and those interested in bringing the compelling story of the world’s most famous ocean liner to life through the construction of this spectacular replica.

Eaglemoss Gets an Exclusive Amazing Spider-Man #65 Variant by Felipe Massafera

Eaglemoss Hero Collector might be known for collectibles like Star Trek ships to WWE figurines. But it’s one of their cooler items (in my opinion) getting the spotlight. The company has revealed a variant by Felipe Massafera of Amazing Spider-Man #65, available now on their site.

On the cover, Massafera captures “Kingpin” Wilson Fisk doing what he does best, manipulating those around him like pieces on a chessboard to achieve his nefarious ends. The cover is a nod to Eaglemoss’ Marvel Chess Set.

Written by Nick Spencer with interior art by Federico Vicentini, the issue itself presents Part Three of “King’s Ransom“, in which it’s all out war among the super crime lords of the Marvel U competing at the whims of Mayor Fisk. Their task? Get the Tablets of Life & Destiny and Death & Entropy. Oh, and kill Boomerang – with Spider-Man, along with Randy and Robbie Robertson, caught in the crossfire!

The Eaglemoss Massafera Amazing Spider-Man #65 variant is available online from Eaglemoss Shop and limited to 3,000 copies worldwide.

Hero Collector Eaglemoss will be launching the very first merchandise tie-in to the Doctor Who Festive Special, Revolution of the Daleks, with a brand new Chibi Pin Badge Box Set, available to pre-order now.

These badges make the perfect addition to any outfit, and a great gift for the coming festive season.

A new Festive Special figurine box set is also on the horizon, joining Hero Collector’s range of hand-painted Doctor Who figurines at 1:21 scale (approx. 3.5 inches tall), with more details announced following the episode’s transmission.

The Doctor Who Festive Special will see The Doctor locked away in a high-security alien prison, while her friends Yaz, Ryan, and Graham are left stranded on Earth. It’s not easy for the trio to return to normal life, especially when they discover a disturbing plan afoot – but how can you fight a Dalek, without the Doctor?

The Revolution of the Daleks Chibi Pin Badge Set will launch on New Year’s Day, and is available to pre-order now.

Hero Collector blasts Into retail with the announcement of NEW Marvel Heavyweights Wave 2 figurines

After a successful reveal at New York Toy Fair earlier this year, Hero Collector – designers, manufacturers, and publishers of high-quality collectibles from across the worlds of pop culture – is proud to announce Wave 2 of their Heavyweights collection featuring the world-famous Super Heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), captured in full cast metal!

These hand-painted figurines will be the second wave of the Hero Collector Heavyweights range, and faithfully reproduce the likenesses of the MCU’s most beloved costumed characters at 1:18 scale (approximately 4-5 inches tall) atop a metal base. Each figurine comes in a stylish collector’s tin, emblazoned with the character’s logo and movie of origin.

With the first wave scheduled to hit retail in September, this second wave will follow in Q1 2021, and feature characters including:

  • Ant Man, the smallest hero around! Scott Lang, ex-con and single father, was hand-picked by genius scientist Hank Pym to keep his awesome technology out of HYDRA’s clutches. The figurine is clad in his iconic shrinking suit from Ant Man, complete with his insect-like helmet.
  • Captain Marvel, the mightiest Avenger of all! Gifted with incredible cosmic powers by alien technology, Carol Danvers spent years as an amnesiac Kree warrior – only to reclaim her past on Earth. The figurine is cracking her knuckles after the battles she faced in Captain Marvel.
  • Star-Lord, the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy! Abducted from Earth as a child, Peter Quill has roamed the galaxy ever since as a legendary outlaw… at least, that’s what he says. The figurine poses with the guns he used to fight Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.
  • War Machine, the armor-plated patriot! Frustrated by Tony’s irresponsible antics in Iron Man 2, Colonel James Rhodes stole and modified an Iron Man suit to become an armored Avenger in his own right. The figurine is wading into battle with all guns blazing – and that’s a lot of guns…

This is all part of Hero Collector’s concerted push into retail with new products, new packaging, and new concepts, designed to reach a larger mainstream audience. The Hero Collector Heavyweights will be available from September 2020 at Hot Topic, comic shops, and specialty retail, and direct from the Eaglemoss shop online.
