Joker: Folie à Deux hits a flat note in its debut weekend

Joker: Folie à Deux

Joker: Folie à Deux was the top film for the weekend box office which was not surprising but the film hit a wall in its opening weekend. The film opened with $40 million at the domestic box office. That’s less than half of Joker’s 2019 debut. That movie opened with $96.2 million domestically. Internationally, Joker: Folie à Deux did a bit better with $81.1 million for a $121.1 million opening weekend. With bad reviews from critics and the audience, it’s hard to see this film doing well at the box office before its run is up.

The Wild Robot slipped to second place with $18.7 million domestically. The movie has grossed just under $64 million. Internationally, it doubled its opened weekend gross adding $18.4 million to lift that to $36.5 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $100.4 million.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice came in third place with $10.3 million to bring its domestic total to $265.5 million. Internationally, the film grossed $13.9 million over the week to bring that total to $137.1 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $402.6 million.

Transformers One was in fourth place with $5.4 million. Domestically, the film has grossed $47.2 million. It added $17 million to its international total over the week which is now $49.8 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed a little over $97 million.

Speak No Evil remained in fifth place with $2.8 million domestically which is now $32.6 million. Internationally, it added $5.2 million to its total over the week which is now $34.8 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $67.4 million.

In comic film news…

Deadpool & Wolverine came in eighth place in its 11th week. The film grossed $1.5 million domestically to lift its total to $633.8 million. Internationally, the movie added $4.7 million to its total over the week bringing that to just under $694.7 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $1.329 billion.

The Crow is one of the bigger flops of 2024 and it’s domestic total remained unchanged with being just under $9.3 million. Internationally, the movie has done a bit better adding about $300,000 to bring that total to $14.5 million and $23.7 million worldwide.

Blue Lock: Episode Nagi remained at about $1.9 million domestically and remained unchanged internationally to for that total to remain steady at just under $12.4 million for a worldwide total of $14.2 million.

Haikyuu!! The Dumpster Battle remained just under $7.1 million domestically and 1nternationally it remained at $93.3 million for a worldwide gross of just over $100.4 million.

The week’s overall box office success…

Numbers have 64 films earning $87,690,743 from 30,219 theaters. That’s a slight dip from the previous weekend’s $92,899,042 from 36,422 theaters and 70 films. The average earning was $2,901.84 which is a slight increase from the previous weekend’s $2,551.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that Beetlejuice Beetlejuice won the weekend box office but by how much was. The film opened with an estimated $110 million domestically and $35.4 million internationally for a worldwide total of $145.4 million.

The original film opened in 1988 with $8,030,897 which would be about $21.4 million in today’s dollars. It went on to gross $74.8 million worldwide which is $198.9 million in today’s dollars.

Deadpool & Wolverine slipped to second place adding $7.2 million to its domestic total which is now a little over $614 million. Internationally, the movie added $14.8 million over the week to bring that total to $673.2 million for a worldwide total of $1.287 billion.

Reagan moved up one slot to come in third with $5.2 million to bring its domestic total to $18.5 million. Internationally, the movie has grossed $3,381 for a worldwide total of a little over $18.5 million.

Alien: Romulus dropped from second to fourth with $3.9 million to bring its domestic total to $97.2 million. Internationally, it added $22.5 million over the week to bring that total to $217.2 million for a worldwide total of $314.4 million.

It Ends with Us held on to fifth place with $3.8 million domestically to bring that to $141.4 million. Over the week, it added $18 million internationally to bring that to $168 million and $309.4 million worldwide.

In comic film news…

The Crow continues its embarrassment of a run added just $127,000 in its second week to bring its domestic total to $9.2 million.. Internationally, the movie has done a bit better adding about $4.9 million to bring that total to $9.5 million and $18.7 million worldwide.

Blue Lock: Episode Nagi remained at about $1.9 million domestically and gained about $160,000 internationally to bring that total to $12.3 million for a worldwide total of $14.1 million.

Haikyuu!! The Dumpster Battle remained just under $7.1 million domestically and 1nternationally it gained about $7.2 million internationally to bring that to $93.3 million for a worldwide gross of just over $100.4 million.

Numbers have 60 films earning $147,562,015 from 34,516 theaters. That’s a nice jump from the previous weekend’s $82,192,090 from 41,692 theaters and 66 films. The average earning was $4,275.18 which is a boost from the previous weekend’s $1,971.41.

Alien: Romulus takes the weekend box office as Deadpool & Wolverine breaks a record

It was a solid weekend for Disney which took the top two spots at the weekend box office. Alien: Romulus opened in first place with an estimated $41.5 million. Internationally, the movie grossed $66.7 million for a worldwide debut of $108.2 million.

Deadpool & Wolverine slipped to second place adding $29 million to its domestic total to bring that to $545.8 million. Internationally, the film added $61.6 million over the week to lift that to $596.8 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $1.143 billion. It is now the highest grossing rated R film worldwide of all time.

It Ends with Us slipped one spot to third place with an estimated $24 million to bring its domestic total to $97.8 million. Over the week, it grossed $52.2 million to bring its international total to $82.2 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed just under $180 million.

Twisters came in fourth place with an estimated $9.8 million to bring its domestic total to $238.4 million. Over the week, it grossed $7.2 million internationally to bring that to $95 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $333.4 million.

Wrapping up the top five was the 15th anniversary re-release of Coraline which has grossed $11.3 million at the domestic box office.

Deadpool & Wolverine crossed the $1 billion mark this weekend taking first place for the third weekend in a row, fending off some unexpected tough competition. The film added $54.2 million domestically to bring that total to $494.3 million. Internationally, the movie added $106.7 million over the week to bring that to $535.2 million. It has now grossed just under $1.030 billion, the second film to do so this year.

It Ends with Us opened in second place with $50 million domestically and $30 million internationally for a worldwide debut of $80 million.

Twisters came in third adding $15 million domestically to bring that total to $222.3 million. Over the week, it added $9 million internationally to bring that to $87.8 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $310.1 million.

Borderlands opened with an abysmal $8.8 million domestically and no international number reported.

Rounding out the top five was Despicable Me 4 which grossed an estimated $8 million to bring its domestic total to $330.1 million. It also grossed $38.8 million over the week internationally to bring that total to $477.1 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $807.2 million.

NYCC 2023: Kodansha Reveals New Manga Licenses

Kodansha announced at New York Comic Con an array of new manga licenses debuting as soon as November for new digital series and in print for spring and fall of 2024! 

Coming to print in 2024: This spring sees the print debut of the hitman action/comedy The Fable – which will also be getting an anime next year. Additionally, Blue Lock fans can rejoice over the news that the different POV spinoff, BLUE LOCK -EPISODE NAGI-, makes its debut fall 2024. Also coming in fall is the comically violent wheelchair hero battle manga Tank Chair
