Godkiller will become Black Mask’s Longest Running Series when Spiderland debuts in September

Hot off its bestselling launch of “Tomorrow’s Ashes,” Black Mask has announced Godkiller will return in September with its next volume “Spiderland,” becoming the publisher’s longest-running series.

The new volume will launch with a breathtaking, handpainted wraparound cover by Nen Chang, whose cover for vol 3 “Tomorrow’s Ashes” #1 was Black Mask’s all-time bestseller and sold out on its first day of release.

Red hot artist Maria Llovet will join Nen Chang and series artist/co-creator Anna Muckcracker on covers, bringing her stylish, sexy, NSFW vision to the series. Llovet made her US market debut at Black Mask with 2017’s There’s Nothing There before Faithless at BOOM! Studios and then writing and illustrating the graphic novella LOUD! at Black Mask.

In Godkiller: Spiderland, the relationship between anti-heroine Halfpipe and mysterious bounty hunter Soledad smolders as they discover a strange new sorcery they hope will help them rescue Tommy before he’s vivisected by The Republic.

Brash, bold, brutal, sexy, and over the top in all the best and most exciting ways, Godkiller will return with a vengeance in September.

Black Mask Studios Rushes Godkiller: Tomorrow’s Ashes #1 Back To Press For a Second Printing Featuring a New Cover by Yasmin Flores Montanez

The first issue of the twisted, dark fantasy saga Godkiller: Tomorrow’s Ashes by writer Matteo Pizzolo and artist Anna Muckcracker has sold out on its first day of release despite a massive print run, and publisher Black Mask Studios is going back to press for a second printing ahead of the release of issue 2.

The second printing of Godkiller: Tomorrow’s Ashes #1 will feature a new cover by Yasmin Flores Montanez and will be on sale on August 4.

This series provides a fresh jumping-on point for new readers while continuing the saga for Godkiller’s devoted fans.

In Godkiller: Tomorrow’s Ashes, orphan Tommy continues his quest to find a new heart for his dying sister, but he’s been captured by The Republic. Anti-heroine Halfpipe wants to rescue Tommy, but she’ll need help from mysterious bounty hunter Soledad, who’s not exactly in the helping-people business.

Alice, a young writer of children’s story books, is hurtled out of her fairytale-like life when she discovers her girlfriend has been cheating on her! Charmingly defiant, she leaves her small forest town and leaps into a new adventure to seek love (and find herself) in the fast life of San Francisco. There, her concept of pure, magical love will be completely overturned–but her biggest challenge won’t be reckoning with other people’s sexual drive, it’ll be getting a grip on her own! From your new favorite writer and artist team of Iolanda Zanfardino and Elisa Romboli, Alice In Leatherland is a comedy about sex and so, inevitably, about every other aspect of life, too. As Iolanda and Elisa describe the book: “Sex is recounted as a way to investigate our relationship with ourselves and others, with our bodies and our place in the world; sexual pleasure as self-affirmation and growth. There is room for Love, too, and bravery. And for many good laughs, that never hurts.”

Alice will get a hearty taste of the San Francisco life, and along the way she’ll learn a few new things: Just because her whole world falls apart, doesn’t mean she can’t build something exciting from scratch–like two new passionate and unconventional friendships. And even if her sugary fairytales haven’t broken through her creative block, a job may be the best way to discover her complicated new city. And also: peanut butter can fix pretty much anything.

Valentine’s Day can be a rough time of year if your fairytale fantasy doesn’t hold up to reality. What are the chances of mending a broken heart on a dating app? Probably not too far off from the chances of mending your broken heart in a sex-positive shop… but, at least at the shop fun is guaranteed!

From Matteo Pizzolo (CALEXIT) and Anna Wieszczyk, the comic that Zac Thompson said “pushed me further than I’ve ever been pushed” returns to ratchet up the chaos and roar through the comic market, spitting punk rock fury, thundering into your eyeballs and running roughshod across your brains with its often mindbending, sometimes horrifying, always clever & devious tale of sci-fi magic, apocalyptic sex, and subversive mindbombs. “A singular vision full of fresh elegant brutality and dark humor, it’s like some genius commissioned Chuck Palahniuk, Terry Gilliam, and Aleister Crowley to reinvent dystopia fiction.” – Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead (filmmakers Synchronic, The Endless)

Destiny, NY, the beloved tale of magical crime and queer romance, will return this September with Volume 2, from writer Pat Shand, artist Rosi Kämpe, letterer Jim Campbell, and editor Shannon Lee, with a fantastical wraparound cover by Jenn St-Onge.

What if there was a magical prophecy that you were destined to save the world, and you fulfilled it so young you don’t know what to do with the rest of your life? That’s the problem facing Logan McBride in this grounded story about the magic of young adulthood, star-crossed modern romance, delayed coming of age, and finding your place in a world too busy to notice you.

Graphic Policy’s Top Comic Picks this Week!

United States of Captain America #1

Wednesdays (and now Tuesdays) are new comic book day! Each week hundreds of comics are released, and that can be pretty daunting to go over and choose what to buy. That’s where we come in

Each week our contributors choose what they can’t wait to read this week or just sounds interesting. In other words, this is what we’re looking forward to and think you should be taking a look at!

Find out what folks think below, and what comics you should be looking out for this week.

Barbaric #1 (Vault Comics) – Owen the Barbarian has been cursed to do good with what remains of his life. His bloodthirsty weapon, Axe, has become his moral compass with a drinking problem. We’re sold!

By the Horns #3 (Scout Comics) – A fantastic fantasy series about a woman bent on revenge against the unicorns who killed her beloved.

Darling #1 (Source Point Press) – New York City is caught up in a missing 8-year old girl but Francis Darling accidentally stumbles onto the machinations behind her kidnapping and the drug war that ensues. But has he really?

Factory Summers (Drawn & Quarterly) – Guy Delisle recounts his summers working in a paper mill.

Made in Korea #2 (Image Comics) – The first issue was fantastic and we’re expecting this one to be just as good. We felt something was lurking under the pages in the first issue and we want to see what, if anything, that is.

Mighty Crusaders: The Shield (Archie Comics) – The comic has been full of drama but we want to see this Rob Liefeld driven update on the classic Archie characters.

Parasomnia #1 (Dark Horse Comics) – Cullen Bunn and Andrea Mutti, we’re in just for that. The story is about two worlds split between dreams and reality.

Power Rangers Unlimited: Edge of Darkness #1 (BOOM! Studios) – There’s a lot of buzz about this debut which features the Phantom Ranger. Expect sell-outs and new printings.

United States of Captain America #1 (Marvel) – Marvel is going to explore the legacy of Captain America and introduce a bunch of new characters inspired by the icon. We want to see what the series has to say about the character and what he represents.

White #1 (Black Mask Studios) – Black looked at a world where only Black individuals have superpowers. White focuses on the reaction to that and the individuals attempting to stop them.

White #1 Goes Back to Print After Orders of Over 40,000

White #1

The first issue of the empowered Black superheroes comic book series White (sequel to 2016’s BLACK) by Kwanza Osajyefo, Tim Smith 3, Jamal Igle, and Khary Randolph has garnered over 40,000 orders, selling out ahead of its June 30th release date. Black Mask Studios is going back to press for a second printing.   White is the sequel to the 2016’s hit Black. Black is currently in development as a feature film with Warner Bros.

Planned as a limited edition series with a 2,500 copy print run for the main cover, White received orders nearly twenty-times higher than its initial printing. In response to the massive demand, the team has decided to open the print run up with no limits placed on the reprint run.

White was successfully Kickstarted in March 2019 receiving $47,115 from 1,420 backers. The comic was originally estimated to be delivered in March 2020 and delayed due to COVID. Unfortunately, as of the announcement of the massive first printing, backers are speaking out about not receiving the items they pledged for. In full disclosure, I am one of those individuals.

In a world that already hates and fears them – what if only Black people had superpowers. That’s the setting of the Black universe of comic books. After miraculously surviving being gunned down by police, a young man learns that he is part of the biggest lie in history. He must decide whether it’s safer to keep it a secret or if the truth will set him free.

Now, the team that asked “What if only Black people had superpowers?” is back with the sequel to the critically acclaimed series, BLACK. It’s been three years since the world learned only Black people have superhuman abilities, and the United States has responded by electing Theodore Mann to the presidency. The only person standing in the way of his policies to control empowered Blacks are Kareem Jenkins and his allies.

White #1 second printing will be released on July 21.
