Smile 2 debuts in first improving on the original’s

Smile 2 took the weekend box office with an estimated $23 million domestically. That’s slightly better than 2022’s Smile which debuted with $22.6 million. That went on to gross $105.9 million domestically and $217.4 million worldwide. Internationally, Smile 2 matched its domestic debut with $23 million as well for a worldwide opening of $46 million.

The Wild Robot held on to second place in its fourth weekend adding $10.1 million to its domestic total to bring that to $101.7 million. Over the week, it added $29.3 million internationally to bring that to $94.3 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed a little over $196 million.

Terrifier 3 dropped to third place after debuting in first last week. The film added $9.3 million to its domestic total which is now $36.2 million. Internationally, the movie has grossed $5.4 million for a worldwide total of $41.6 million.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was fourth with $5 million. Its domestic total now stands at just under $284 million. Internationally, the movie grossed $5.4 million over the week to lift that to $150.6 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $434.6 million.

We Live in Time saw a massive expansion of theaters and rounded out the top five. It grossed $4.2 million to bring its domestic total to $4.5 million. Internationally, the movie has grossed $98,536. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $4.6 million.

In comic film news…

Joker: Folie à Deux sank to sixth place in its third week place. With $2.2 million, the movie dropped a further 68.9% from the previous weekend. It has now grossed $56.4 million domestically. Over the week, it grossed $22.1 million internationally where it’s doing better and has grossed $135.5 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed just under $191.9 million.

Transformers One slipped to eighth place with $2 million. Domestically, the film has grossed $56.6 million. It added $3.9 million to its international total over the week which is now $62.4 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $119 million. With a budget between $75-147 million, the film’s success will be debated and will rely heavily on toy sales to truly determine.

My Hero Academia: You’re Next added $650,000 to its domestic total which is now $4.6 million. The film has grossed $1.8 million over the week internationally which is now $25.4 million. Worldwide the total is $30.1 million.

Deadpool & Wolverine grossed $679,000 domestically to lift its total to $636.3 million. Internationally, the movie remained at $699.4 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $1.336 billion.

Bocchi the Rock! Re: remained at $167,948 domestically and has grossed $3.7 million internationally for a worldwide total of $3.8 million.

The Crow is one of the bigger flops of 2024 and it’s domestic total remained unchanged with being just under $9.3 million. Internationally, the movie grossed about $160,000 and is now $14.7 million. The worldwide total is now $23.9 million.

Blue Lock: Episode Nagi remained at about $1.9 million domestically and remained unchanged internationally to for that total to remain steady at $12.4 million for a worldwide total of $14.3 million.

Haikyuu!! The Dumpster Battle remained just under $7.1 million domestically and 1nternationally it remained at $93.3 million for a worldwide gross of just over $100.4 million.

Numbers have 64 films earning $68,654,093 from 37,681 theaters. That’s a drop from the previous weekend’s $72,987,011 from 35,171 theaters and 56 films. The average earning was $1,821.98 which is a decrease from the previous weekend’s $2,075.20.

Terrifier 3 scares up first place at the weekend box office as Joker: Folie à Deux tumbles

It was a pretty soft weekend at the movie box office as only two movies made it over $10 million. Terrifier 3 took first place with $14.1 million. There was no international total listed but it has made $18.9 million worldwide so far.

It barely topped The Wild Robot which came in second place for the second weekend in a row with a little over $14 million. The brings its domestic total up to $84.3 million so far. It grossed a little over $1 million internationally over the week to bring that to $65 million and a worldwide total of $149.3 million.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice remained in third place with $7.3 million domestically to bring that total to $275.9 million. Internationally, it added $8.1 million to its total to bring that to $145.2 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $421.1 million.

Joker: Folie à Deux sank in its second weekend dropping to fourth place. With a little over $7 million, the movie dropped 81.4% from the previous weekend. It has now grossed $51.6 million domestically. Over the week, it grossed $32.3 million internationally where it’s doing better and has grossed $113.4 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed just under $165 million.

Rounding out the top five was Piece by Piece with $3.9 million domestically in its opening weekend debut.

Transformers One slipped to sixth place with $3.8 million. Domestically, the film has grossed just under $53 million. It added $8.7 million to its international total over the week which is now $58.5 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $111.5 million. With a budget between $75-147 million, the film’s success will be debated and will rely heavily on toy sales to truly determine.

Joker: Folie à Deux was the top film for the weekend box office which was not surprising but the film hit a wall in its opening weekend. The film opened with $40 million at the domestic box office. That’s less than half of Joker’s 2019 debut. That movie opened with $96.2 million domestically. Internationally, Joker: Folie à Deux did a bit better with $81.1 million for a $121.1 million opening weekend. With bad reviews from critics and the audience, it’s hard to see this film doing well at the box office before its run is up.

The Wild Robot slipped to second place with $18.7 million domestically. The movie has grossed just under $64 million. Internationally, it doubled its opened weekend gross adding $18.4 million to lift that to $36.5 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $100.4 million.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice came in third place with $10.3 million to bring its domestic total to $265.5 million. Internationally, the film grossed $13.9 million over the week to bring that total to $137.1 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $402.6 million.

The Wild Robot had a wild weekend taking the top of the weekend box office. The film is being praised by both critics and the public, so expect this to have some legs while also becoming a classic after. The animated film grossed $35 million domestically while also grossing $18.1 million internationally for a worldwide debut of $53.1 million. With a reported $78 million budget, the film will likely be a nice success story for the early fall.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice slipped to second place after being in first in its fourth week. The movie added a little over $16 million to bring its domestic total to $250.1 million. Over the week, it added $20.2 million internationally to its gross to bring that to $123.2 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $373.3 million.

Transformers One came in third place with $9.3 million over the weekend to bring its domestic gross to $39.2 million. Internationally, it grossed $18.8 million to bring that to $32.8 million for a worldwide total of just under $72 million. The budget is reported at anywhere from $75 million to $150 million, so it’s hard to say how the film will be received by Hasbro and Paramount but how the tie-in toys and other products will be key in really measuring its success.

Devara Part 1 debuted in fourth place with $5.6 million domestically.

Speak No Evil rounded out the top five with $4.3 million domestically to bring its domestic gross to $28.1 million. Over the week, it grossed $8.7 million internationally to bring that total to $29.6 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $57.7 million.

Megalopolis debuted in sixth place with $4 million domestically and no international gross reported. By Francis Ford Coppola, the movie had a budget of $120 million and with it being panned by both critics and the audience, it’s hard to not see how this film isn’t in a race to being one of the biggest flops of the year.

The original film opened in 1988 with $8,030,897 which would be about $21.4 million in today’s dollars. It went on to gross $74.8 million worldwide which is $198.9 million in today’s dollars.

Deadpool & Wolverine slipped to second place adding $7.2 million to its domestic total which is now a little over $614 million. Internationally, the movie added $14.8 million over the week to bring that total to $673.2 million for a worldwide total of $1.287 billion.

Reagan moved up one slot to come in third with $5.2 million to bring its domestic total to $18.5 million. Internationally, the movie has grossed $3,381 for a worldwide total of a little over $18.5 million.

Alien: Romulus dropped from second to fourth with $3.9 million to bring its domestic total to $97.2 million. Internationally, it added $22.5 million over the week to bring that total to $217.2 million for a worldwide total of $314.4 million.
