Batman: Assault on Arkham, Out August 12

Batman-Assault on ArkhamBatman, one of the world’s most valiant super heroes, faces a villainous squad of criminals in an epic battle of good vs. evil in the DC Universe Original Movie, Batman: Assault on Arkham. Set in the world of the best-selling Batman: Arkham video game series, this action-packed film takes place between the Batman: Arkham Origins and Batman: Arkham Asylum video games. Available on August 12, 2014 from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, on Blu-Ray Combo Pack, DVD and Digital HD.

Gotham is in great danger when the government assembles a group of villains — code named the Suicide Squad — and forces them to break into Arkham Asylum to retrieve top secret information stolen by the Riddler. Things take a turn for the worse when one of the Squad members (Harley Quinn) frees the Joker, who is intent on blowing up Arkham Asylum and Gotham City. Batman must use his super hero wits and strength to thwart the wicked plans of the Joker and the Suicide Squad.

Kevin Conroyvoices Batman, and joins forces with several Hollywood greats to bring the legendary characters to life. Adding to the celebrity-laden cast is Neal McDonough as Deadshot, Troy Baker as Joker, Matthew Gray Gubler as Riddler, CCH Pounder as Amanda Waller, Greg Ellis as Captain Boomerang, and Giancarlo Esposito as Black Spider.

Batman: Assault on Arkham is directed by Jay Oliva and Ethan Spaulding from a script written by Heath Corson.

Batman: Assault on Arkham has tons of exciting enhanced content. The Blu-ray Combo Pack will include:

  • Arkham Analyzed: The Secrets Behind the Asylum – This is the documentary that traces the strange, demonic history of the location where horror is mixed with the extremities of the criminally insane. A place where Batman must keep his watchful gaze, to insure that what goes in does not come out …. ever.
  • The Joker’s Queen: Harley Quinn – If The Joker were to have a girlfriend, what would she be like? This featurette covers the story of the deviancy and often provocative side to The Joker’s greatest ally, Harley Quinn.
  • An advance look into the next DC animated feature film with the creators and cast.
  • Four episodes from the DC Comics Vault.

Toy Stories – April 28th 2014

In case you didn’t know, C2E2 (Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo) took place this weekend in Chicago. While most of the news coming out was related to comics, we did get a few cool toy reveals. The object of much of my devotion, Diamond Select Toys, had a pair of cool new items to show off.

That’s right, TMNT Minimates! I’m a huge TMNT fan and while I’m not up to speed on the newest show, it’s amazing to see Miniamtes of the turtles. April, Shredder, and Foot Clan Soldiers are also seeing release later this year. I am super excited for the possibilities these bring up. DST  has shown how creative they can be with reusing assets for other figures. A quick repaint and we can easily get an 80’s cartoon or Eastman and Laird comic book box sets. Perhaps I’ll tweet DSTZach @CollectDST every week until it happens.

Yep, certainly deadly.

DST also showed off a LukesToyStore.com exclusive: Deadly Foes of Spider-Man Marvel Minimates Box Set. The set features Carnage, Doc Ock, Sandman, and Lizard. Most of the pieces look to be re-used from earlier figures and updated with new paint jobs and accessories. Lizard appears to feature the most new parts, including a new head sculpt. Carnage hasn’t had a new figure in years, so the added tendrils and a new paint deco are certainly welcome. Due for a September release, you can pre-order this set now.

DC Collectibles also put a out an interseting video called: Batman: 75 Years, 75 Action Figures. The video doesn’t actually feature 75 figures (I was disappointed) but it does show of some of the cool Batman figures DC Collectibles (Formerly DC Direct) has made over years. A few of the sales stats that come up in the video are interesting too.
