A Spider-Man Noir Live-Action series is in the works at Amazon

Spider-Man Noir #1

Variety is reporting that a live action series featuring Spider-Man Noir is being worked on at Amazon. The character is a spin on Spider-Man and part of the Spider-Verse. It takes place in the 1930s New York City and mixes aspects of Spider-Man with noir detective stories. The character is part of the “Marvel Noir” comic universe line that takes place on Earth-90214. Other characters in that universe include the X-Men, Daredevil, Wolverine, Luke Cage, Fantastic Four, Punisher, Weapon X, and Iron Man.

The character has previously appeared in the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and was voiced by Nicolas Cage as well on Ultimate Spider-Man voiced by Milo Ventimiglia. Spider-Man Noir first appeared in comics in Spider-Man: Noir #1 in February 2009 and created by David Hine, Fabrice Sapolsky, Carmine Di Giandomenico, and Marko Djurdjevic.

This is the second project to web its web out of Sony’s Spider-verse at Amazon Prime Video and MGM+. Silk: Spider-Society has been also announced. Sony controls over 900 characters associated with the Spider-Man franchise.

Oren Uziel will serve as writer and executive producer on Spider-Man Noir show. It was developed by Uziel along with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal, who will executive produce.

Marvel and Sony bring Spider-Man’s world to the small screen

Marvel and Sony Pictures Television are teaming up for a suite of live-action series spinning out of the world of Spider-Man. MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video have ordered the series.

Silk: Spider Society will be the first show with Angela Kang as showrunner.

The series will debut first on MGM+ (which is the relaunched Epic). It will then air on Amazon Prime Video in the United States. Internationally, the series will air on Amazon in 240 countries and territories.

Sony controls over 900 Marvel characters. Phil Lord and Chris Miller will exec produce the suite of series with Amy Pascal.

Silk was created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos. She cameoed in The Amazing Spider-Man #1 in 2014 with a full appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #4 that same year. The character, Cindy Moon, is a Korean-American woman bitten by the same spider that bit Peter Parker and escapes imprisonment to search for her missing family.

Kelly Marcel will reportedly direct Venom 3

Deadline is reporting that Kelly Marcel is set to direct Venom 3 which has Tom Hardy returning to the role.

Marcel wrote and produced the first two films and now she’ll be getting into the director’s chair.

Marcel and Hardy will produce the film with Marvel from a screenplay written by Marcel based on a story by Marcel and Hardy. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, and Hutch Parker are also producing.

The plot is unknown but the first two Venom films grossed $1.36 billion worldwide.

This will be the first time Marcel has directed a film. She has two in pre-production, Venom 3 and Ferryman.

Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson will direct the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Sequel

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

A trio of directors will tackle the sequel to the hit Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Sony Pictures Animation has tapped Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson for the difficult task.

Dos Santos had been previously reported as directing the film but all three have been working on the project from the start.

Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad and Christina Steinberg are returning to produce the project. Alonzo Ruvalcaba co-producing. “Spider-Verse” director Peter Ramsey will executive produce, along with Aditya Sood.

David Callaham, Lord, and Miller are all credited as screenwriters.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a hit earning $373.5 million worldwide and won an Oscar for the best-animated feature. The film focused on Miles Morales bringing together various Spider-Man from around the multiverse. The sequel is expected to repeat that with even more added.

The film is scheduled to come to theaters on October 7, 2022.

Olivia Wilde Will Direct a Female-Centered Marvel Film for Sony

Deadline is reporting that Olivia Wilde has been chosen to direct a secret Marvel film project for Sony revolving around a female character. Speculation is the film is Spider-Woman. Sony hasn’t confirmed the hiring but Wilde Tweeted the original story with a little symbol indicated the rumor is true.

Wilde and Katie Silberman will write the film with Amy Pascal producing and Rachel O’Connor will be the executive producer.

The film is thought to be on top of the Madame Webb film being directed by S.J. Clarkson and the in-development Black Cat and Silver Sable film. When it comes to the “Spider-Verse,” Spider-Woman is the logical choice for a female-centric film though Spider-Gwen would be a possibility as well.

While mostly known as an actress, Wilde earned praised with her film directorial debut with Booksmart. She has generally stayed out of the world of comic film adaptations and only appeared in Cowboys & Aliens in 2011 from DreamWorks and Universal.
