Reginald Hudlin will helm Black Cotton Star

Black Cotton Star is the latest comic to turn film as ZQ Entertainment has acquired the rights. Reginald Hudlin will direct the film from a script by Deric Hughes and Benjamin Raab. Hudlin will produce with Prime Universe’s Adrian Askarieh, and ZQ heads Ara Keshishian and Petr Jakl. Martin J Barab will be exec producer.

Black Cotton Star tells the story of three African American soldiers in World War II who are sent on a suicide mission to retrieve the first ever American flag which was stolen by a Nazi Commander. The graphic novel was written by Yves Sente with art by Steve Cuzor. Both will executive produce.

Black Cotton Star was published by the Belgian publisher Dupuis and in the US by Pegasus Books with Europe Comics handling digital publishing.

Marc Guggenheim to Script Rob Liefeld’s Prophet

Marc Guggenheim has been tapped by Jeff Robinov‘s Studio 8 to adapt Prophet, the comic book character created by Rob Liefeld.

The story is about a super-soldier put into deep freeze for a future mission only to awaken prematurely and search for a mission that doesn’t exist. The goal is to turn it into a franchise.

Adrian Askarieh, Brooklyn Weaver, Rob Liefeld. John Hyde and Terissa Kelton will also be involved in producing capacities.

Prophet debuted in Liefeld’s Youngblood #2 in July 1992 and has since gone on to star in multiple comic series with the latest starting in 2017.

Vault Comics’ Heathen Film Finds Its Director

Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has come on board the Viking fantasy-adventure Heathen for Constantin Film and Prime Universe Films.

Hardwicke will direct from a script by Kerry Williamson, based on Vault Comics‘ series by Natasha Alterici. She will also executive produce.

The stories center on the warrior Aydis, an outcast gay woman born into a time of warfare, suffering, and subjugation of women. She is on a mission to end the oppressive reign of the god-king Odin. The book was selected by the Young Adult Library Service Association to be included in its  2018 “Great Graphic Novels For Teens” list.

Constantin Film’s Robert Kulzer and Margo Klewans, Prime Universe Film’s Adrian Askarieh are producing along with F.J. DeSanto. Constantin Film’s Martin Moszkowicz and Vault CEO Damian Wassel will executive produce.

Natasha Alterici and Vault Comics’ Heathen is Being Developed for Film

Vault Comics has announced that their hit comic series, Heathen, is being developed into a feature film by Constantin Film AG.

A critically-acclaimed comic book series created by Natasha AltericiHeathen was recently selected by Young Adult Library Service Association (YALSA) to be included in its 2018 Great Graphic Novels For Teens list.

Heathen follows Aydis, a viking, warrior, outcast, and a self-proclaimed heathen. Aydis is a rescuer of the immortal Valkyrie Brynhild and battler of demons and fantastic monsters. Aydis is a woman. Born into a time of warfare, suffering, and subjugation of women, she is on a mission to end the oppressive reign of the god-king Odin.

The Heathen film script will be written by Kerry Williamson, whose credits include Alex Cross, Netflix’s What Happened to Monday and who’s adapting the fantasy series Sandman Slim for director Chad Stahelski and Studio 8. The film will be produced by Constantin’s Robert Kulzer with Adrian Askarieh who’s Prime Universe Films is in a two-year first look with Constantin. Askarieh’s last film was 20th Century Fox’s Hitman: Ageng 47F.J. DeSanto will produce. DeSanto was a producer on The Spirit and recently co-wrote and Executive Produced the Transformers anime for Machinima and Hasbro. Damian Wassel, Vault’s CEO & Publisher, will Executive Produce, and Tim Daniel, Vault’s VP of Branding, will Co-Produce, and Constantin’s Martin Moszkowicz will be executive producer.

 

Vault Comics’ Slate is Being Developed by Hitman: Agent 47 producer Adrian Askarieh

Upstart comic publisher Vault Comics is already finding success as it has been reported that producer Adrian Askarieh and Silver Fox Entertainment’s F.J. DeSanto are teaming up to develop adaptations from Vault Comics upcoming slate of releases. The specific comics mentioned are all by writer Tim Daniel.

The comics include Atoll, which centers around an Olympic athlete and her tech billionaire husband who are kidnapped and are forced into combat with a Great White shark for entertainment.

The comic publisher was founded in 2016 by Adrian Wassel, Damian Wassel, and Nathan Gooden. At San Diego Comic-Con the publisher announced their Winter 2017 Season of comics including Karma Police, Fissure, Failsafe, Colossi, and Powerless.
