Cataclysm Arcade launches an Early Bird Depositor Exclusive Ahead of its Crowdfunding Campaign

Cataclysm Arcade

Mothership Games premiered their inaugural game Cataclysm Arcade trading card game at GAMA earlier this year to universal praise, following an initial sneak peek at PAX Unplugged last year. This game will be the first step toward pairing filmmakers with top game and product designers to expand this property into tomorrow’s most exciting new entertainment franchise.

Co-concepted and created by gaming legend Brian David Marshall and Jay Van Hoy, known for his work on such acclaimed feature films The Witch and The Lighthouse, the two have created a world that honors the best of modern storytelling and the retro chic of 1980’s VHS nostalgia, thanks to the jaw dropping art of comic book illustrators Steve Ellis, ChrisCross, Benjamin Dewey, Zach Howard, Nelson Daniel, Jason Masters, Juan Doe and DAF along with TCG illustrators like Ellis, Andre Garcia, Adriano Kitane, Tim Gaedke, Samuel Alexander, and Neon Pennington

The team behind the game announce a special set of perks for those who make as little as a $5 deposit to reserve their place in line of initial supporters:

  • The first 5,000 reservations will receive a limited ‘Blood & Steel’ Sky foil: This is Exclusive Variant Art that will never be reprinted.
  • 15 Card Limited Edition Booster Pack: Limited Edition Booster featuring 12 exclusive Andre Garcia alt art cards randomly inserted in packs. Ships June while the campaign is live. So they can ‘test drive’ and play while they pledge.
  • Bonus Booster Packs: Every Early Bird depositor will receive 4 additional Crawling from the Wreckage Founder’s Edition Booster Packs with every Booster Display ordered through Kickstarter.

The game imagines a world in which an unknown event brought about the near end of humanity in 1986, where pockets of survivors linger in the New York City subway tunnels. Some of these survivors compete in a gladiatorial bloodsport broadcast through old subway system speakers, closed circuit broadcast, and ham radios. A train rolls up, a Boss steps out, and the winner of the ensuing brawl gets to ride the train to the next stop. The goal of Cataclysm Arcade is simple: be the last Boss standing. Pit your Boss against others for a fast-paced gaming experience guaranteed to excite both lifelong players and newcomers alike. Everything you need to play comes in one booster pack, even the dice.

Magic: The Gathering Announces Secret Lair x Garfield Collaboration

Your life total is about to be saved by the miracle of lasagna. Wizards of the Coast has announced three Secret Lair x Garfield drops as part of the Cats Are the Best Superdrop. These special, limited Magic: The Gathering collections showcase many sides of Jim DavisGarfield—whether he’s motivating you to defeat your opponents, hunting for his prey atop a saber-toothed tiger, or helping you play Magic: The Gathering exactly as it was intended.

Secret Lair x Garfield: Motivationally Challenged

Secret Lair x Garfield: Motivationally Challenged pulls from some of the character’s most memorable motivational posters and pairs them with perfectly fitting Magic cards. Ever wanted to express how much you hate Mondays? Beast Within would love to help with that! With five cards, there are plenty of ways to express how you feel at the Magic: The Gathering table.

  • 1x Rin and Seri, Inseparable as “Garfield and Odie, Best Buds”, 1x Orim’s Chant as “Talk to the Paw”, 1x Ponder as “Hang in There”, 1x Beast Within as “I Hate Mondays”, 1x Sol Ring

Secret Lair x Garfield: Our Only Thought Is to Entertain You

Secret Lair x Garfield: Our Only Thought Is to Entertain You brings the entertainer beneath the naps, lasagna, and everyday contempt to the forefront. (In this case, “entertainer” could include terrible judgment, an unchecked appetite, and the kind of comic logic that turns one bad impulse into a full-blown hallucination.) When Molten Collapse is actually marinara sauce instead of molten-hot magma, it’s either time to cut back on the lasagna—or go even harder.

  • 1x It That Betrays, 1x Maddening Cacophony, 1x Maddening Hex, 1x Hunter’s Insight, 1x Molten Collapse

Secret Lair x Garfield: As Intended

Secret Lair x Garfield: As Intended takes cards from the first Magic: The Gathering set and asks a simple question: what if Garfield himself art directed Magic in its early days? It nods to the game’s original playtest cards, which used art clipped from newspapers and magazines. Casting a Counterspell never felt so satisfying.

  • 1x Swords to Plowshares, 1x Counterspell, 1x Dark Ritual, 1x Earthquake, 1x Fog

All Secret Lair x Garfield drops will be available in Foil ($39.99) and Non-Foil ($29.99) while supplies last.

These special limited quantity Secret Lair x Garfield collections will go on sale as part of the Cats are the Best Superdrop starting at 9 a.m. PT on June 15. Fans will also receive a Foil Food Token promo card with special Garfield lasagna art for every $199 USD spent on a single transaction, while supplies last.

Tiny Onion’s Exquisite Corpses: The Game Comes to Kickstarter

Tiny Onion has launched a Kickstarter campaign for Exquisite Corpses: The Game, a companion tabletop card game tied to the bestselling comic book series co-created by five-time Eisner Award-winning writer and CEO James Tynion IV and Eisner Award-winning artist Michael Walsh. Fans can now choose from various editions of the party game and additional rewards on the Kickstarter page, with limited time discounts for early bird backers.

Exquisite Corpses: The Game is a casual tabletop game perfect for fans of trading card classics like Magic: The Gathering and party experiences like Ultimate Werewolf. Needing only a deck of cards and some dice, a group of 4-12 players each pick their favorite killer and proceed to attack, bluff, and barter with their fellow killers until just one remains. No two games are alike, so players can immediately play again and again and get different results.

Since the project’s inception in February 2024, Tiny Onion have been designing and playtesting Exquisite Corpses: The Game alongside the comics’ creation. In addition to the standard Civilian Edition, Tiny Onion is producing two deluxe versions of the game: the elevated Killer Cache Edition, and the elite Thirteen Families Edition.

The Civilian Edition includes 12 killer cards, 24 event cards, 6 different status effect cards, and the instruction booklet. The deluxe Killer Cache Edition includes a special Killer Cache box with magnetic clasp, a Kickstarter exclusive reprint of Exquisite Corpses #1 with cover art by Ian Bertram, 12 oversized killer cards with new art, 24 event cards, premium wood status effect tokens, 13 pink resin dice in velvet bag, a pink and orange playmat, and a special Killer Cache edition exclusive event card. The top-tier Thirteen Families Edition includes a Thirteen Families box with a magnetic clasp, a Kickstarter exclusive reprint of Exquisite Corpses #1 with a gold foil cover, 12 oversized killer cards with new art in foil, 24 event cards, premium metal status effect tokens, 13 gold resin dice in velvet bag, a black and gold playmat, and a special Thirteen Families edition exclusive event card.

Aside from these editions, fans can also get even rarer rewards, including an option to get drawn into Season 2 of the comic book series, original card art by Michael Walsh, and the ultimate Historic Deck, featuring 10 original prototype cards from the first Exquisite Corpses summit, a private Zoom game with Walsh, Tynion, and the Corpse Crew, and all three editions. Retailers can also purchase packs of 25 copies and 100 copies. Fans can also get select add-ons to their orders, including blank sketch versions of the cards.

In the hit comic book series, the wealthiest families in America play a game every five years on Halloween. Twelve of the deadliest people in the world are dropped into a small town with just one goal: last killer standing wins. They call the game “Exquisite Corpses.”

The Kickstarter campaign will end on June 15th at 12pm ET and the game products are due to be shipped to backers between April 1, 2027 through June 30, 2027.

Stone Blade Entertainment announces The Lord of the Rings: Ascension

Stone Blade Entertainment has announced The Lord of the Rings: Ascension, a new tabletop experience set in
J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendary world of Middle-earth, developed in partnership with asmodee and
Middle-earth Enterprises.

Designed for fans of both immersive storytelling and strategic gameplay, The Lord of the Rings: Ascension invites players to step into a dynamic narrative shaped by their choices. Rather than simply retelling familiar tales, the game offers a branching experience where each decision carries weight, and no two journeys unfold the same way. Each of Tolkien’s three legendary volumes comes to life as its own standalone deckbuilding experience.

Set against the rich backdrop of Middle-earth, players will navigate evolving challenges, forge alliances, and confront the consequences of their actions across a living world inspired by Tolkien’s writings. Built from the ground up to reflect the tone, tension, and depth of the source material, The Lord of the Rings: Ascension aims to deliver an experience that feels authentically rooted in the legendarium.

Ascension has defined the deckbuilding genre, winning awards, building a passionate community, and setting the standard for strategic card game design. Now, with The Lord of the Rings: Ascension, Ascension is entering the world of licensed games.

The game is currently in development and will launch via a Gamefound campaign later this year. Additional details, including gameplay reveals, components, and campaign information, will be
shared in the coming weeks and months.

Fans can follow updates and be among the first to learn more by visiting the project on Gamefound and joining the growing community ahead of launch.

Kayou’s My Little Pony Trading Card Game Arrives in the US on May 1

My Little Pony Trading Card Game: Friendships Begin Starter Decks

Starting May 1st, friendship, adventure, and pony magic are coming to U.S. game nights! After capturing hearts overseas earlier this year, Kayou’s My Little Pony Trading Card Game: Friendships Begin will finally hit major retailers, including GameStop, Target, Best Buy, Barnes & Noble, and various hobby stores.

Co-developed with Hasbro, the two-player game is inspired by My Little Pojny: Friendship is Magic and blends storytelling with strategic gameplay, making it fun for families new to trading card games while also appealing to avid TCG enthusiasts ages 10 and up.

Two players choose one of six starter decks featuring the Mane 6 (Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Applejack, and Fluttershy) and go head-to-head, drawing cards and playing clever card combos to move through your pony’s story. The first player to complete their story wins the game.

Like all of Kayou’s collectible trading cards, this TCG is filled with stunning narrative-driven artwork and quality finishes (shimmering foils, embossed textures, and laser etching) that make it as fun to collect as it is to play in competition.

Each starter deck includes a 70-card ready-to-play deck used to create a Main DeckScene Deck and Story Deck, and three booster packs with five cards in each pack. Players can collect 68 card types across nine rarity levels, including Shining Ruby Rare (RR) Cards that feature the Mane 6 and their elements of harmony illustrated with vibrant colored pencils and lush oil painting textures; and Shining Emerald Rare (ER) Cards that showcase iconic Equestrian landmarks themed for each of the Mane 6 with exclusive day/night variations.

Fans can collect all six starter decks and mix and match to create their own custom playing decks.

The starter decks just landed at GameStop for $19.99 each, but you can also look out for them at Best Buy, Barnes & Noble, Target and local hobby stores.
