Christian Ward and John J. Pearson Make Art to Die for in The Patron

All the great artists have one thing in common…they’re dead. But why wait for a natural death when you can profit faster from murder? Writer Christian Ward and artist John J. Pearson put their own life’s work on the page in a highbrow thriller at the bloody intersection of art and commerce in The Patron. Ignition Press will begin publishing the new series on July 29th, 2026.

A true patron of the fine arts, Mr. Cherish has dedicated his life to scouting and supporting emerging artists, launching countless unknowns from obscurity into industry superstardom.

Unfortunately for these young artists, the secret to Cherish’s success is their untimely demise. Nothing makes a work of art more desirable and valuable to collectors than the passing of its creator, and Cherish has refined his ability to orchestrate spectacular tragedies without leaving a trace…before selling his dead protégés’ oeuvres for massive profits. Painter Matty Barnes is primed to become Cherish’s next ‘hit,’ but when the script is flipped on this latest murder, a shocking twist puts his empire in the crosshairs.

The Patron #1 is available in comic shops July 29th from writer Christian Ward and artist John J. Pearson, with letters by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. Genetica – Issue #1

Genetica - Issue #1

Publisher: N/A
Creative Team: (W) Finn Broockmann (A) R.D. Brown (I) R.D. Brown (C) Thaissa Diaz (L) Dezi Sienty
Launch Date: Funding Now – May 14 2026 4:33 PM EDT
Risk: Medium – A first campaign is always risky, they’re often late. But, the pages for the issue are “almost fully colored and lettered,” and they’ll be using Comix Wellspring and Comic Impressions for printing and Laguna Studios for shipping. So, things do sound lined up.

Genetica, a new independent comic series from writer Finn Broockmann and a professional comics production team, has launched on Kickstarter with a 40-page, full-color, perfect-bound debut issue blending dystopian sci-fi, militarized politics, and conspiracy-driven action.

Set in a neon-drenched near future, Genetica follows Fox, a young genetically modified ex-soldier known as a Spliced, whose search for the figure haunting his past pulls him into a shadow war tied to a covert program capable of reshaping human beings into living weapons.

The project launched on Kickstarter on April 14 and reached roughly 25% funding in its first three days, drawing 60+ backers and early support for its premium print format and variant editions.

The creative team includes artist R.D. Brown (Youngblood, Darkness, Black Badge), colorist Thaíssa Diaz (Top Cow and multiple independent publishers), and letterer Dezi Sienty, whose credits include DC Comics, Heavy Metal Magazine, IDW, Kodansha, and more.

Campaign editions include a standard cover, a Kickstarter-exclusive cover limited to a single print run, and a deluxe black-and-white edition featuring 10 bonus pages of black-and-white artwork. A limited original art tier is also available.
