Transformers #12 delivers a dramatic and action packed finale to the second arc

Transformers #12

The fate of two worlds is decided here, as the Autobots and Decepticons make choices that will change the universe forever. Transformers #12 is full of shocks, betrayals, and heartbreaking decisions.

Writer Daniel Warren Johnson has taken readers on a hell of a wild ride with his take on the Transformers. Each issue hits the nostalgia button and gives us characters and situations that are recognizable but also slightly different from the original animated series. With each issue, the concept has diverged more and more with Johnson building to a summer blockbuster worth of action and visuals. Transformers #12 wraps things up for the second arc as Optimus leads his Autobots to try to stop Shockwave and rescue the captured Autobots.

To say things are unexpected is an understatement. There’s betrayals. There’s shocking moments. There’s bodies piling up, as they have with each issue. Transformers #12 is another packed story that takes the Transformers action and turns it up to 11. It’s impressive that Johnson can surprise readers so often and does so with each issue. To say this issue is epic is and understatement. There’s tragedy and moments that’ll have readers gasping. Multiple moments. This arc has been building and it pays off.

The art by Jorge Corona is fantastic. With color by Mike Spicer and lettering by Rus Wooton, the action looks fantastic and each key moment gets the exciting visuals they deserve. Corona does a fantastic job of emphasizing the size of each of the characters in relation to each other, especially the humans. Get a good sense these are giant robots battling it out which adds to the epic feel of it all.

Transformers #12 ends the second arc with a bang and shocks. It shows characters who are in conflict with each other, not just on the battlefield but in their relationships with each other. It’s one hell of an ending that gets us even more pumped for what’s to come.
