Where the Data Ranks 2018’s Comic Book Films. The One Before Ant-Man and the Wasp

Things are strong but slowing down for comic related films and with the summer box office blockbusters regularly coming. We’ll be seeing how many of these have long term legs and eagerly await Ant-Man and the Wasp‘s debut in just a few days. That film will likely top the weekend box office but until next week’s report lets take a look at the previous week.

Deadpool 2 dropped to seventh earning an estimated $3.5 million domestically. It has now earned $310.3 million domestically, $408.7 million intentionally, and $719.1 million worldwide. The film is $64 million short of the original which was released in 2016. The original film earned $363.1 million domestically, $420 million overseas and $783.1 million worldwide.

The film moved up two slots and is now the 22nd highest grossing comic movie adaptation. The film is also earning a higher percentage internationally with 56.84% of its earnings versus 53.64% for the original. It’s also the third highest grossing “X” film worldwide (not adjusted for inflation).

Avengers: Infinity War came in at #12 which earned $1.4 million domestically. The film has brought in $672.5 million domestically, $1.362 billion internationally, for a grand total of $2.034 billion worldwide. The film is about $34 million short of passing Star Wars: The Force Awakens in worldwide grosses.

Black Panther slipped just one spot to come in at #32 and earned an estimated $32,000. The film remains the top grossing domestic film of 2018 with $699.8 million. Internationally the film has earned $646.6 million for a worldwide total of $1.346 billion.

The Death of Stalin wasn’t on the chart but still brought dollars in over the week bringing its total to $8,014,998 about an $14,000 increase. That’s a dip from the previous week’s $22,000.

I Kill Giants continues to be a weird one when it comes to numbers. Some more numbers have come in. According to what little we could find, it looks like the film’s domestic box office has brought in $183,754. All together, the film has earned a reported $263,621 at the foreign box office. The movie was released on demand at the same time in theaters, so the film has made money it’s just unknown how much.

Here’s where this year’s comic films stand as far as the actual numbers. With a new film opening the averages have dipped.
