Joe Quesada Comments on Marvel/Northrop Grumman Deal
If you missed the big story out of New York Comic Con, Marvel comics was planning on announcing a promotion with Northrop Grumman. If you’re new to the issue, we’ve got you covered.
The announcement led to an outcry and Marvel cancelled plans and presumably the deal as a whole since Northrop Grumman also removed references to the deal and event.
It would seem in this case one hand didn’t know what the other was doing.
At his “Cup of Joe” Panel, Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada commented on the screw up:
I’ll be honest with you, I saw it for the first time [same] as you guys. I think there were some messaging issues. It was really about science and education.
While it’s clear from that not all executives know what is being done under the Marvel brand, there’s also a little bit missed by Quesada. It’s not the subject that was the issue, it was doing and business with a company such as Northrop Grumman. Again, read the link above where we list the abuses and crimes the company has committed.
These comics are produced through Marvel Custom Solutions which is run separately from normal Marvel editorial. Expect some changes behind the scenes after this dust up.
