Moana Fends off an Office Christmas Party
Disney’s Moana held off newcomer Office Christmas Party to three-peat at the box office. The film earned an estimated $18.8 million at the domestic box office this weekend to bring its domestic total to $145 million.
Office Christmas Party debuted in second place bringing in an estimated $17.5 million. With a budget of just $45 million, the film should do fine in the long run. It did about the same amount, $16.4 million, overseas where it debuted in 49 markets.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them dropped to third place adding $10.8 million to its total. The film has now earned $680 million worldwide.
Also dropping one spot was Arrival which added $5.6 million to its total. It came in fourth and last weekend it was third. Domestically the film has earned $81.5 million.
Doctor Strange rounds out the top five. It held on to the fifth position from last week by earning $4.6 million. Domestically the film has brought in $222.4 million. Worldwide the film is at $645.8 million after six weeks. The movie is ninth domestically and seventh worldwide for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (out of 14). Next weekend brings the juggernaut that is Rogue One which will absolutely top the box office, it’s just a question of how much it will earn.
