Review: Captain Victory and the Galactic Rangers #1
Out of the hell of a cosmic firefight, Captain Victory is launched into an epic adventure that spans both space and time! All your favorites are here — as well as all-new enemies to face! The classic Jack Kirby character gets a new vibe courtesy of writer Jack Kirby and art from Nathan Fox, Jim Rugg, and Ulises Farinas.
I can’t say I’ve read a lot of Captain Victory in the past, an issue here and there from Dynamite, and what I’ve read I’ve never been a huge fan of, but this…… this is awesome. Casey throws the reader right into the action bringing the talent he’s shown in so many other series to reinvigorate this one.
Captain Victory and the Galactic Rangers‘ first issue feels like a big budget movie with a ship under siege, explosions, a crew running frantic. If this was going to be the series, I’d be happy with it. That part really clicked for me, and I enjoyed it a lot.
By the end of the first issue though, a twist happens, and it’s clearer what that whole “space and time” is about in the description. This looks to be a hell of a lot of fun, and you better believe I’m coming back for more.
What helps Casey is the art. Fox, Rugg, and Farinas bring a style that matches the action, where you can feel the motion of the explosions, and the ship rocking going on. The design for the aliens, layout of the page, it’s all very cool and feels fresh and new.
For me, this is a hell of a start that has me interested in a property I’ve never really had an interest in. When I go into a series like this I expect a galactic adventure, and in this case Captain Victory and his crew of rangers delivers.
