Brandon Routh Joins the Cast of Arrow
Deadline is reporting that Brandon Routh will join the cast of Arrow as this season’s recurring guest star. He’ll play Ray Palmer, who you might know as his secret identity, the Atom. Routh will be in 14 episodes. Palmer will be the new owner of Queen Consolidated.
This is the second DC Comics property for Routh, as he played Superman in Bryan Singer’s 2006 Superman Returns. This is now the fourth “comic book” property for Routh, on top of Superman, he appeared in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and Dylan Dog: Dead of Night, both of which were based on comic books.
Palmer debuted in 1961 in Showcase #34 by National Comics. He was an updated version of the company’s 1940s Golden Age Atom, Al Pratt. Though the specifics have changed as far as his role in the DC universe, Palmer is a scientist who is able to reduce objects size, including himself.
This isn’t the first appearance of the character on television. He has appeared on numerous episodes of various cartoons based on DC comics, but he also had a live action stint in the Justice League of America television movie where he was played by John Kassir who is most known as the voice of The Crypt Keeper on the Tales from the Crypt television series.
