Army Uses X-Men to Recruit

Bookmark and Share

The army is like the X-Men, they’re both elite and that’s about where it ends.  But, that’s not stopping the U.S. Army to use the upcoming movie X-Men: First Class to help recruit.  If you go to their Facebook page you can see an ad that compares the two as well as “exclusive content” from the movie.

X-Men Come to Mafia Wars

The promotion has been running for a few days now but the X-Men have come to the popular Zynga video game Mafia Wars.  By completing various tasks you’re able to collect items inspired by this summer’s movie X-Men: First Class.  This is the second super hero inspired tie-in by the game.  Could we see a full fledged game based on super heroes come from the company?

It’s our third entry for our Facebook Movie Watch, where we see if movies drive the likes or the likes indicate the buzz a movie has.  Thor held onto the top spot in the theaters this past week and Priest opened as expected.  Below are the new counts and how much they moved.

There was a definite slow down for Thor as far as growth in it’s second week.  I’d imagine we’ll see a build up leading up to the movie, a huge gain the week of it’s opening and then a drop off in the week after opening.  We’ll see if the other movies follow this pattern.  The other interesting thing to watch is the overall grades the audiences give the movie compared to their growth.

Thor – Opens in the United States May 6, already released globally.

Total gain for the week – 105,915

Total gain overall – 290,256

Priest – May 13

Total gain for the week – 23,837

Talking with some friends about the demographics of comic book fans on Facebook, I got to wondering how pages react to events like movie releases.  Thor has been released  globally, but opens this Friday here in the US.  Will the “likes” for the film page increase?  Can you figure out the buzz of a movie or character by this?  For this summer, we’ll track the various Facebook pages related to this summer’s comic book movies and see if they get a “release” bump or what other factors might lead to an increase of decrease of likes.  Where there’s multiple pages, we took the top five when we could.

Priest – May 13

X-Men: First Class – June 3
