The Banishing – Coming Soon from Wizkids

WizKids has announced the upcoming release of a new co-operative card game, The Banishing. This March, the undead will threaten to take over the world. An unlikely group will join forces to fight against evil.  Find out who will be triumphant on the tabletop in The Banishing.

Designed by Sean Rumble, The Banishing brings players into a world being overcome by undead creatures. Players take on the roles of the guardians who must work together to banish the undead back through the Void.

As guardians, each player is a unique character with special abilities that can be activated by collecting cards and creating matches. The Sorcerer can conjure and enchant. The Fighter can taunt and imprison. The Healer can bless and revive. The Banishing introduces eight characters, each with six unique skills, for players to choose from.

Marvel Dice Masters: Spider-Man Maximum Carnage Team Pack in July

spider-man_maximum_carnageThis is a new one to me, but WizKids has announced through their monthly releases page a new team pack for their Dice Masters game. Marvel Dice Masters: Spider-Man Maximum Carnage Team Pack is up next following the Defenders team pack being released in May. Marvel Dice Masters: Spider-Man Maximum Carnage Team Pack is currently set to be released in July and if following other team pack releases will feature eight characters, 24 cards, and 16 dice.

Team packs are a relatively new addition to the Dice Masters game. Similar to starter sets the packs do not include Basic Action Cards or the basic dice, those are available in starter packs. Instead, these packs retail for $9.99 and are intended to be an easy way for individuals to purchase new teams to play. The two per pack mean that two packs will be needed to max out the characters included.

Maximum Carnage was a fourteen-part comic book crossover published by Marvel Comics in 1993. It featured Spider-Man, Venom, and a host of other superheroes teaming up to face Venom’s murderous offspring Carnage and his team of supervillains. Spider-Man, Venom, Carnage, Carrion, Demogoblin, Doppleganger, Shriek, Cloak and Dagger, Captain America, Black Cat, Nightwatch, Iron Fist, Deathlok, Morbius, and Firestar all had roles in the storyline. Expect at least Spider-Man, Venom, and Carnage in this set.

WizKids has announced their plans for the upcoming 2017 WizKids National Championships as well as an exciting reveal of the DC Comics HeroClix: Superman vs. Muhammad Ali Convention Exclusive Set. This year, there will be numerous National Championships around the globe where players can win limited edition prizes, purchase convention exclusives figures, and qualify for the 2017 WizKids World Championship, to be held at Origins Game Fair in Columbus, Ohio.

For the first time, HeroClix fans will be able to bring The Greatest of All Time to the tabletop with the DC Comics HeroClix: Superman vs. Muhammad Ali Convention Exclusive Set! This special HeroClix set that will only be available at events on or after April 1st.

In 1978, legendary boxer Muhammad Ali proved that he truly was the Greatest of All Time by defeating the strongest man on Earth – Superman – in the pages of DC Comics’ historic Superman vs. Muhammad Ali issue. Far from a grudge match, this battle would ultimately set the two up to save the planet from an alien invasion, ending in the proclamation “WE are the greatest!”

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Dice Masters: Heroes in a Half Shell is a stand-alone set and features everything you need in one box. The release also features enough for four people to players, yes Dice Masters for four players!

Playable on its own, combine it with the first TMNT box set, or combine it with other Dice Masters releases!

2017 is kicking off with the first starter set of the year for Wizkids‘ Dice Masters, Marvel Dice Masters: Iron Man and War Machine. The starter set is a solid way to start collecting and playing Dice Masters including enough for two players to begin.

This starter focuses on Iron Man and War Machine with new mechanics and affiliations. We go over the 24 characters and 10 basic action dice and give our initial thoughts.

The Marvel Dice Masters: Iron Man and War Machine Starter Set is out February 2017.

WizKids Releases an Update about Star Trek: Attack Wing

star-trek-attack-wingStar Trek: Attack Wing is one of WizKids‘ popular game lines, a miniature game where you build a fleet of ships from throughout the Star Trek universe to do battle. Recently the company has been releasing new versions of previously released figures sometimes with a new repaint and with updated rules.

The company sent an email explaining it was taking a new direction with their releases:

First off, we’d like to thank you for all of your support over the last three years!  We’re excited to finally unveil some of the new things we’ve been working on this past year.

WizKids will be releasing a digital version of the revised rulebook. The digital version will contain refreshed rules that incorporate rulings and FAQs released online, providing an up-to-date comprehensive rulebook. No need to worry – all previously released STAW product will be compatible; no products will become obsolete in conjunction with this update.

Secondly, we are planning to release a new configuration of STAW products.  These products will have a lower price point and contain new content, but will not include ship models.  While the new configurations won’t include ship models, they will note the previously-released ships customers need to purchase. The new configuration will offer a more cost-effective option for players who already have many copies of an existing ship sculpt.  Aside from a lower price point, these packs will include a selection of updated content to support updated rules for ship models of the same type.

Third, we will be introducing faction packs. These packs will provide a ready to field fleet of ships from the same faction that will allow new players to field a team while providing a lower priced value (per ship) to new and veteran customers.

Fourth, we will continue to increase our paint quality across the line.  We hope you agree that our ships have never looked better.

Last but certainly not least, we’re excited to share that we’ve been exploring a process that will allow fans to submit their very own content ideas to WizKids. There may be limitations to this endeavor, but we believe the STAW community can provide many exciting ideas. There are many details that will need to be worked out before we can announce anything more specific about the submission process.

We want to thank you so much for your continued patience and support of WizKids and the STAW line of products. We hope these new initiatives will help the game continue to flourish until teleporters and replicators are a reality… (or at least until there’s a human colony on Mars).
