Welcome to the long-awaited return of MacGyver – co-written by his creator! When an old friend calls for help, Mac becomes involved in a web of industrial espionage, murder and a white-knuckle pursuit across the globe with a million dollar hit on his head! Can he live long enough to save the world – or has his luck finally run out?

MacGyver returns in first new story in twenty years!

He can save the day with nothing more than a paperclip and a chocolate bar, but how will he fare with ink and staples? Yes, MacGyver is back —in a fast-paced comic book mini-series co-written by his creator, Lee David Zlotoff and published by Image Comics. The first MacGyver story since the television show ended in 1992 kicks off on October 10 with the first issue of MacGyver: Fugitive Gauntlet.

The series, co-written by Tony Lee and drawn by Will Sliney, with covers by Andie Tong,  picks up Mac’s story as he gets tangled in a web of industrial espionage and murder. On the run across the globe, Mac has to escape his pursuers—which won’t be easy with a million-dollar bounty on his head!

The more he thought about the medium of comics, the more the idea appealed to him, Zlotoff explained. “In the last decade or so, the graphic novel and comics arena has simply exploded in terms of both the kinds of stories that are being told and the range of artistic styles now being explored. So as I considered the constant call from fans around the world to bring MacGyver back, it struck me that the simplicity and directness of comics might be the perfect place to start.”

The result? A five-issue mini-series that ups the ante for the eponymous hero, taking him to far-off places and embroiling him in trouble that only MacGyver could escape.

In addition to a story full of thrills and twists, MacGyver will contain the history of the television show’s creation in the issues’ backmatter, written by MacGyver creator Lee David Zlotoff.

MacGyver: Fugitive Gauntlet #1 (AUG120462) will be in stores on October 10 and is available for pre-order now.

First Ever Star Trek®/Doctor Who Comic Book Crossover Coming in May
Star Trek: The Next Generation® crew and the Doctor face off
against the Borg and the Cybermen

[Doctor Who/Star Trek Crossover Image]San Diego, CA (February 13, 2012)—In conjunction with BBC Worldwide Consumer Products and CBS Consumer Products, IDW Publishing will make history when two of the greatest science-fiction properties of all time come together in a comic book for the first time. The world’s most popular time traveler teams up with the U.S.S. Enterprise crew in STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION/DOCTOR WHO: ASSIMILATION2, taking fans on an adventure where no man has gone before.

“By joining these two sci-fi powerhouses, fans will be taken on the ultimate adventure through time and space,” said Liz Kalodner, executive vice president and general manager of CBS Consumer Products.

Launching in May, STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION/DOCTOR WHO: ASSIMILATION2 will feature fan-favorite villains the Borg and the Cybermen as they create an unholy alliance resulting in potential disaster for all humanity. Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise find themselves joining forces with the Doctor and his companions, with the fate of the galaxy hanging in the balance.

“We are excited about this new adventure for the Doctor and the fact that he will be travelling with Captain Jean-Luc Picard and his iconic crew. This is a perfect partnership for not only Doctor Who’s incredible fans, but also for the brand. We have just celebrated our most successful year yet. Doctor Who’s latest season delivered record ratings for BBC AMERICA and it was most downloaded full TV seasons of 2011 in the U.S. on the iTunes Store,” says Soumya Sriraman, executive vice president Home Entertainment and Licensing.

This eight-issue series will be written by Scott and David Tipton, the authors of critically acclaimed Star Trek: Infestation, with a helping hand from longtime Doctor Who writer Tony Lee, and will feature fully painted artwork by J.K. Woodward (Fallen Angel).

Fans are encouraged to ask their retailers about the rare wraparound photo cover. Plus, artist Joe Corroney (Star Trek Ongoing) will provide a variant cover featuring the Doctor and friends aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise.

Doctor Who and Star Trek are two hugely successful franchises that began as television series, and have expanded into a number of other media, including comic books, which continue to captivate fans all over the world. Nearly five decades and 1,500 episodes in the making, this is the moment that both Trekkers and Whovians have waited for all their lives!

STAR TREK TNG/DOCTOR WHO: ASSIMILATION2 ($3.99, 32 pages, full color) will be available in stores in May 2012.

The Doctor Returns

Official Press Release

The Doctor Returns

IDW DOCTOR WHO comic book series continues with
all-new Eleventh Doctor stories

Coming in January 2011

[DOCTOR WHO #1 cover]San Diego, CA (October 8, 2010) – IDW Publishing is pleased to announce the official continuation of its partnership with BBC Worldwide with its critically acclaimed DOCTOR WHO comic book series, which will now feature all-new adventures of Matt Smith, the Eleventh Doctor. Earlier this year, the television series Doctor Who delivered BBC AMERICA record ratings and reached the top spot on the iTunes TV chart.  This January 2011, IDW Publishing launches DOCTOR WHO #1, kicking off an all-new ongoing comic book series.

Penned by mainstay writer, Tony Lee, DOCTOR WHO #1 finds the Doctor and his new companions, Amy Pond and Rory Williams, battling holographic spam and ‘friending’ requests on a planet that’s hours from destruction by an alien race. Artist Andrew Currie brings this debut adventure to life, with Tommy Lee Edwards offering eye-catching covers on each issue. Plus, the Eisner Award winning Fables superstar Mark Buckingham also offers an incentive cover for issue #1, and will provide interior art on an upcoming issue, as well. Kelley Yates will also provide an incentive cover for issue #1, featuring a die-cut gatefold image that allows fans to open the TARDIS and see the Doctor inside.

Joining IDW’s DOCTOR WHO comic book series for art duties is Richard Piers Rayner (Road to Perdition), who will tackle a run-in between The Doctor and Jack the Ripper in issues #2-4. Artists Matthew Dow Smith (DOCTOR WHO, Starman) and Chris Samnee (Thor: The Mighty Avenger) will also be featured for special story arcs.

IDW’s new ongoing comic book series promises not to dial down the excitement, offering holographic spam fighting Mad Max-esque mercenaries, Victorian Jack The Ripper suspense, penalty shoot-outs against Vikings and Cybernetic Space Pirate Dinosaurs among the many adventures that the Eleventh Doctor will be having.  Said IDW’s DOCTOR WHO editor Denton J. Tipton, “There’s going to be something for everyone in this story. For example, fans of the classic series should be on the look out for a classic DOCTOR WHO villain!”

“I could tell you who they are, but I’d have to kill you,” adds Lee. “Let’s just say we’ve been given special dispensation to use them, and we have a killer story – in all senses of the word!”

DOCTOR WHO #1 ($3.99, 32 pages, full color) will be available in stores in January.
