Szymon Kudrański delivers a Blood Commandment this November

Image Comics has announced an all-new horror story—Blood Commandment—from the artist behind Spawn and Punisher, Szymon Kudrański. A four-issue horror miniseries from the creator of the breakout hit series Something Epic, Kudrański will bring readers a story about survival, sacrifice, and hope this November.

Living an isolated life in a shadowed valley surrounded by mountains and a thick forest, a father and son are terrorized by a dangerous supernatural presence. Only the father’s dark secrets can save them…or damn their souls for all eternity!

Being a single father can be tough, but for Ezra Connolly, it’s a duty he doesn’t take lightly. Living off-grid, away from prying eyes, in the heart of forest country, he spends his days teaching his teenage son Wil survival skills. But Wil has questions, questions Ezra fears to answer—about his past, and about why they never leave the valley before sundown…

Szymon Kudrański’s Something Epic goes back to print

Issue #2 of the breakout hit series Something Epic by Szymon Kudrański has sold out completely at the distributor level. Image Comics will rush this exciting new issue back to print in response to the growing demand for the popular fantasy series.

In Something Epic #2, Danny dips further into the imaginary world. He believes he’s unable to interact with its inhabitants but he finds solace in the absurdity of creativity despite the solitude his power brings.

Outside our perception, creative thought takes physical form, with only a handful of individuals known as Epics able to interact with this wondrous hidden world. But for fourteen-year-old Danny Dillon, accepting these responsibilities himself won’t be easy—or safe. Lose yourself in a world of endless fantasy and creativity, where superheroes, monsters, magical creatures, and cartoon characters live and breathe alongside us.

Something Epic #2, second printing (APR239462) will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, July 12.

A NEW SCIENCE FICTION EPIC FROM THE MIND OF STAN LEE!
From the mind of legendary comics creator Stan Lee, the architect of the Marvel Universe, comes Alliances: Orphans, a brand-new original graphic novel set in the New York Times best-selling Alliances universe, co-written by Lee with Luke Lieberman (Red Sonja) and Ryan Silbert (The Coldest Case). This cosmic adventure features fully painted artwork by Bill Sienkiewicz, who handles the prologue and cover, and Szymon Kudranski.
Orphans blasts readers into the heart of our galaxy alongside William Ackerson, a man lost in space on a quest to find the source of his uncanny abilities. As gravity waves ripple across reality, warping time and space, he meets the Orphans. They are each the last of their kind, all their kin having been wiped out by the alien Hive: Little Boy, their giant childlike leader; Haze, a caustic creature of pure vapor; Rascal, a self-loathing zealot with dark secrets; and Critter, a being that’s equal parts monster and puppy.
This ragtag group find themselves in over their heads when their space-heist is hijacked. They have a stowaway with her own agenda: Samsi, the fearsome survivor of a civilization that once ruled the galaxy. Orphans is a fast-paced, intergalactic treasure hunt that explodes the Alliances universe into the cosmos. It introduces an extraordinary band of lone survivors, that must become a family to save the very fabric of reality.

Review: A Town Called Terror #1

A Town Called Terror #1

A new horror series from Steve Niles is going to get me to take notice. Having Szymon Kudranski makes me even more intrigued. So, going into A Town Called Terror #1 I only knew the basics of the flavor text released and the duo’s previous works to set my expectations. A dark, brooding mystery, with an interesting build is what I thought the first issue would deliver and for the most part, I was right.

The teaser text for the series describes a story about a husband who is kidnapped and the wife that has no idea why and trouble proving that he has been. That alone had me hooked as a concept. Was she making it up? Is there something more? But what Niles has cooked up is something rather different. We generally know why the husband has been kidnapped. We don’t know why things were handled the way they were. It’s a mystery but not at all as to what I was expected. That teaser concept is there but A Town Called Terror #1 is far more different than just that.

The debut issue teases us with family drama and a “magical” world but the details are scarce. It seems to have to do with monsters and a son who wanted to get away from it all but beyond that, we’ll have to keep on reading to discover all of the details. It’s an intriguing start, just not what I was expecting.

Kudranski’s art, along with Scott O. Brown’s lettering, creates a dark and moody world. It has a feel in some ways of old-school horror comics and stories where the small details tell as much about the world as everything else. As our kidnapped victim is taken home, we’re treated to creatures, statues, plants, and more that tell us stories about the world he’s entered. The comic opens in a laboratory which too begs the reader to linger and attempt to discover what’s going on. The comic is visually nice but it’s the small details that really stand out here.

A Town Called Terror #1 is an interesting start. It’s not what I expected at all. I thought I was getting into a psychological horror story about a missing husband. While that’s there, there’s also elements of a pulp horror story about family. It’ll be interesting to see where it all goes but as far as starts, this is an intriguing one.
