No Man’s Land #2 feels like a Cold War set episode of The X-Files

No Man's Land #2

FBI Agent Collins touches down on Little Diomede to investigate a chilling murder—facing savage weather, crushing isolation, and the ghosts of a failing marriage. But when he’s forced to team up with KGB Agent Sonia Fiodrow, the uneasy alliance leads to disturbing revelations: a religiously motivated killer and a community gripped by fear. No Man’s Land #2 is a slow, tense, burn that fans of whodunnit stories will appreciate.

Written by and with art by Szymon Kudrański, No Man’s Land #2 at its heart is a murder mystery. A body has been found right in the middle of the ice bridge that connects Russian and the United States during the early years of the Cold War. An American FBI agent and KGB agent must team up to solve the murder but it’s all with the backdrop that is the Cold War.

Kudrański does a hell of a job here setting up two agents who need to work together but also are trained to not trust each other. Mix in the fact that by working together, they could inflame political tensions and also hurt their own careers. The comic seeps in tension and paranoia as the two attempt to figure out what’s going on.

Where Kudrański takes it is far more interesting. Signs early on point that the killing is a religiously driven one with teases of Biblical scripture and the talk of a demonic being. What goes from a straight politically tinged thriller, morphs slightly into an intriguing episode of The X-Files. Replace these two agents with Mulder and Scully and the comic wouldn’t miss a beat.

The art nails the aesthetic of it all with a slightly dark, very white, slightly nightmarish style that reflects the story and its setting. Kudrański is a talent all around when it comes to art, that’s a known, and the comic shows off writing talent as well. DC Hopkins‘ lettering too stands out tackling multiple languages and impressively lettering readers get a sense of intent of words even when the readers don’t know the language.

No Man’s Land #2 is an impressive issue. It mixes mystery, tension, and strange scares all with some fantastic art. For those who are interested in the genre, this is a series and issue that can’t be missed.

Face Your Fears in Crownsville #1 – Rodney Barnes and Elia Bonetti Unearth Decades of Terror on November 5th!

Oni Press has unleashed a look inside Crownsville #1, the first in a chilling five-part series from Rodney Barnes and artist Elia Bonetti! Inspired by the real-life horrors of the notorious Maryland psychiatric hospital once called the “Hospital for the Negro Insane of Maryland” that preyed upon the segregated Black communities surrounding Annapolis, Maryland for decades, Crownsville #1 is a haunting fusion of true crime, tension-addled thriller, and roaring supernatural horror arriving in comic shops everywhere on November 5th with a DOUBLE-SIZED, 48 PAGE FIRST ISSUE!

Founded at the turn of the 20th century outside of Annapolis, MD, the Crownsville Hospital was a notoriously segregated, all-Black psychiatric institute. After decades of overcrowding and neglect— alongside darker, more-persistent rumors of patient abuse and illegal medical experiments—it was finally closed. Today, it stands condemned—a crumbling testament to a legacy of all-too-real terror inflicted on a marginalized and vulnerable community. But even as a ruin of its former self, Crownsville still casts a long shadow. . . . When an unexplained death inside the abandoned hospital is ruled a suicide, Annapolis police detective Mike Simms and journalist Paul Blairare are compelled to dig deeper, only to discover the reality of the horrors that once took place there . . . and the powerful connection they share to the anguished spirits of the dead that are still locked within its walls.

The past is a ghost that will devour you whole… Discover why on November 5th as master storytellers Rodney Barnes and Elia Bonetti unleash one of 2025’s most enthralling, most terrifying, and most spectacular statements on horror in Crownsville #1 – featuring wrenching covers by Jason Shawn Alexander, interior artist Elia Bonetti, Syzmon Kudranski, and Andrea Sorrentino!

No Man’s Land #1 delivers a tense opening that’ll hook fans of murder mysteries.

No Man’s Land #1 is exactly what you’d want with a description like above. Szymon Kudrański handles the writing and art and delivers an opening period piece that’s full of tension and leave you guessing as to where it’s going to go. We’re introduced to an FBI agent who has been dedicated to his job and looking to retired but forced into investigating this international incident. He’s an agent that has wrecked his marriage but all in on the position and what it means, one who will not question his orders. It’s a setup that’s rather paint by numbers in some ways but is presented in a manner and seriousness that oozes tension. Set upon the backdrop of the Cold War and recent Cuban Missile Crisis, it’s a murder investigation set in a cold world and loneliness in location and in the agent’s personal life.

Kudrański’s art is haunting and leaves a sadness that’s perfect for the concept. There’s something about the combination that enhances the coldness of it all and compounds the precarious nature of the situation. It’s a morose comic with its visuals. Kudrański’s style gives it all a haunting, dreamlike feel that adds to the nightmare aspect of the murder and collapsing of a marriage.

No Man’s Land #1 is a solid debut. The combination of story and art create an issue that’ll hook fans of the genre but underneath it also delivers a tense political thriller that you should add to your pull list.

Political tensions escalate this September in No Man’s Land by Szymon Kudrański

The rising star creator behind such breakout hits as Something Epic and Blood Commandment—Szymon Kudrański—invites fans to the frigid Diomede Islands in his upcoming thriller No Man’s Land. This four issue miniseries is set to launch this September from Image Comics. This is Kudrański’s third solo title out of his creative house, One Man Art.

The Diomede Islands represent one of the most fascinating and geopolitically fraught locations on Earth. For three months each year, a natural ice bridge forms between the United States and Russia—raising a compelling question: who holds jurisdiction over this frozen passage, in part or in full?

Cyan Fitzgerald navigates the tumultuous path of adolescence in Misery from Todd McFarlane and Szymon Kudrański

New Spawn Universe series Misery—written by award winning creator Todd McFarlane and illustrated by Szymon Kudrański—is set to launch this June from Image Comics and Todd McFarlane Productions. This four issue miniseries will take readers on the compelling journey of teenager Cyan Fitzgerald, an iconic character who was first introduced in Spawn #3 and has been a part of the Spawn mythos ever since.

In Misery #1, Cyan is now a 17-year-old trying to forge a life of her own after the tragic loss of her mother, Wanda, whose character was the inspiration for Spawn’s existence in the first place. Now, as Cyan grapples with her grief and seeks to find her purpose, she discovers hidden powers emerging in her. A newfound gift—and curse—for ‘healing’ will force her to distance herself from those she loves most at a time when she needs their support.

Cyan will be forced to navigate the already tumultuous path of adolescence as her powers take her on a physical and emotional rollercoaster. The ability to ‘heal’ others comes at an unexpected cost—each touch unleashes the darkest memories and emotions of the person she touches, leaving Cyan to bear the weight of their suffering as her own.

McFarlane’s compelling storytelling and Kudrański’s art vividly capture the emotional depth and darkness of Cyan’s world in this coming-of-age debut—sure to excite seasoned fans of the Spawn Universe, and newcomers alike.

Misery #1 will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, June 5 for the low, introductory price of $2.99. The Final Order Cutoff deadline for comic shop retailers is Monday, May 13:

The world of Spawn expands with The New U and launch of Sam & Twitch: Case Files

Todd McFarlane Productions has announced a lineup of new titles, offered at competitive prices, to be dubbed “The New U” and to build upon the foundation laid by the smash-hit-maker Spawn Universe. This earthshaking new era will follow the monumental events of Spawn #350 and will kickoff with the upcoming Sam & Twitch: Case Files series launch this March.

The New U will offer fans a next-level reading experience featuring gripping storylines, dynamic characters, and jaw-dropping plot twists—all while retaining the low introductory price points that make Spawn titles the best bargain in the industry to date.

First up, Sam & Twitch: Case Files will drop readers into the gritty world of crime-solving with everyone’s fan-favorite Spawn Universe detectives in their own, brand-new series, Sam and Twitch: Case Files. Episodic tales of murder, intrigue, and deception abound in this noir crime drama masterfully created by McFarlane, and co-plotted by Jon Goff. It boasts art by Szymon Kudrański, whose ultra-realistic visuals and cinematic style jump from the page and make it feel more like a movie than a comic.

Readers will join Sam and Twitch as they navigate the treacherous streets of New York City, gumshoeing and confronting the darkness lurking around every corner. For readers in search of a comic outside the traditional superhero action found in the other popular Spawn Universe tales, these Case Files will be true-crime style murder mystery cases, showcase film noir aesthetics, and unfold like an R-rated Drama. The Sam and Twitch characters were created in 1992 by McFarlane and appeared in the chart-topping, history-making launch of Spawn #1. They have been a staple in the Spawn Universe ever since.

Next, Rat City #1 will launch in April with an extra-length debut and feature the talents of Erica Schultz and Zé Carlos. Readers will be immersed in the fantastical, sci-fi story of Peter Cairn, an ex-soldier, an amputee, and a Hellspawn in a post-war future. But Peter isn’t dead like Al. Peter got his Spawn powers from the nanites in his prosthetic legs—nanites that were affected when Al Simmons initiated his necroplasmic detonation in the present. Al had no clue that the effects would ripple across—not just space—and but time as well.

Then, May will bring forth Monolith #1 by Sean Lewis and Valerio Giangiordano will explore the origin of the hulking Hellspawn. What connection does he have to one of the most savage of his kind, Omega Spawn? Readers will follow his journey from the cosmic depths of deep-spawn to his first encounter with Al Simmons in this three-part miniseries.

The upcoming New U series will retain the usual low introductory price points of either $3.99 or $2.99—well below the $4.99 that is fast becoming the industry standard. McFarlane’s commitment to accessible pricing removes barriers for fans seeking to try out—and add—New U comics to their buy piles alongside the ever-expanding catalog of Spawn Universe offerings. New U titles will range in genre from Horror to Drama, Crime to Science-Fiction, and even Comedy and provide a story for every type of reader.

The repercussions of Spawn #350 affected every character’s fate, lead to a massive shift in the power dynamics within the universe, and gave birth The New U. Sam & Twitch: Case Files is only the first glimpse at what’s to come, with more series announcements and details yet to be revealed.

The rollout will continue in June and July with three more four-issue miniseries all sure to excite fans: Misery, Medieval Spawn, and Spawn Kills Every Spawn. In August, Violator with give the popular villain his own oversized, six-issue miniseries and the highly buzzed-about Knights vs. Samurai will follow later that the month. In September an all-new ongoing series titled Deadly Tales will launch. And in October, a bi-monthly series—with extended page count—No Home Here—will launch. Several more titles, including Focus, Spawn: The Dark Ages, She-Spawn, Bloodletter, and Spawn 77 will hit shelves and more information will be revealed for each in the coming months.
