Dark Horse Unveils Tyrion Lannister Statue!

When looking for a key moment to immortalize as the second sculptural piece in Dark Horse’s highly coveted line of Game of Thrones collectibles, Dark Horse turned to none other than writer/producers David Benioff and D. B. Weiss for the most “statueworthy” moment in the then-unaired second season.

The two chose the memorable scene when Tyrion, as portrayed by Peter Dinklage, charges into battle, leading the defense of King’s Landing against an assault by King Stannis Baratheon in the Battle of the Blackwater. They further assisted with special photographic reference taken during filming, expressly for use as sculpture reference for the piece.

Dark Horse is currently offering the statue to the trade for advance order. The Tyrion statue will be issued in a limited run, with the final edition size undetermined at press time.

This detailed figure measures approximately 10 inches in height and 9.5 inches across its base, which features Tyrion’s cast-aside helmet and other painstakingly re-created details.

Hand painted and numbered, the Game of Thrones Tyrion statue will come packaged in a deluxe full-color box.

Fans of the series can view a “Making of the Tyrion Lannister statue” video on the Dark Horse Blog.

Look for these statues to arrive in stores on February 20, 2013, with a suggested retail price of $199.99.

Dark Horse Deluxe Debuts Camilla D’Errico Statue At Toy Fair 2012!

NO ORDINARY SCULPTURE—DARK HORSE DELUXE DEBUTS THE FIRST STATUETTE FROM ARTIST CAMILLA D’ERRICO AT TOY FAIR 2012

MILWAUKIE, OR, February 10—Artist and designer Camilla d’Errico is exploding across the pop-culture landscape. Her paintings, comics, apparel, toys, and licensed merchandise items are found in trendsetting venues worldwide, and her unique art style sets these items apart from the crowd. Dark Horse Deluxe, a division of Dark Horse Comics, announces the latest step forward for d’Errico, a limited-edition sculptural bust inspired by her painting No Ordinary Love.

Slated for a late June release, the meticulously painted sculpture measures approximately 8 inches tall and 5 inches in width, making it a diminutive but exquisite jewel of a statuette. It is strictly limited to only 950 hand-numbered copies for worldwide distribution. It is packaged in a full-color collector box, with a certificate of authenticity inserted to certify it for collectors.

“Translating Camilla’s work into three dimensions was a challenge,” Dark Horse’s David Scroggy observed, “but with a lot of help from Camilla and the skilled artisans at Gentle Giant Studios, we were able to arrive at a piece that is unmistakably d’Errico, with all the subtle nuance and details of sculpture and paint application that her audience would expect.”

Camilla d’Errico supervised every aspect of the sculpting and paint application as the piece took shape, providing additional reference, commentary, and color notes throughout the prototyping process.

No Ordinary Love is a piece that is very dear to me,” Camilla d’Errico reflected. “It’s the visual interpretation and expression of my feelings for my ‘one and only,’ so you can imagine how exciting it is, that this particular piece was chosen!”

The painting No Ordinary Love was included in the Dark Horse art book of d’Errico’s work, Femina and Fauna, which has gone into multiple printings and can be found in a diverse array of retail venues, such as bookstores, art galleries, pop-culture and designer-toy emporiums, and comic shops. A second hardcover collection of Camilla d’Errico’s paintings, Helmetgirls, is scheduled for publication by Dark Horse in July.

Dark Horse will display No Ordinary Love to the trade for the first time at its booth at International Toy Fair, held at Jacob Javits Center in New York, February 12–15, 2012.

NYCC 11 – Dark Horse Unveils 2011 New York Comic Con Exclusive Spider-Man Syroco!

Official Press Release

DARK HORSE UNVEILS THE 2011 NEW YORK COMIC CON EXCLUSIVE MARVEL SPIDER-MAN SYROCO!

SEPTEMBER 28, MILWAUKIE, OR—As part of the Marvel Syrocos program that debuted at San Diego Comic-Con International in July, it is announced today that Dark Horse will be releasing another exclusive Spider-Man statue for New York Comic Con!

New York Comic Con attendees will have a very significant opportunity to acquire a special statue released just for the show. Much like the previously released and long-sold-out SDCC exclusive, a very limited number of this statuette is being offered. It is packaged in the same litho-printed tin box that is the hallmark of the Dark Horse Syrocos, and is destined to be a bona fide hot item, both at the show and far beyond the exhibit hall. It will be sold at the normal retail price of $49.99, with a limit of four per customer.

“We wanted to evoke New York with our very special exclusive Spider-Man,” said Dark Horse’s VP of Product Development, David Scroggy. “Unfortunately, space constraints made a rooftop water tower or fire escape impossible, but we still hope fans can sense the city in this piece.”

The Marvel Syrocos program kicked off earlier this month with two alternating series: Classic Marvel Characters and the Fantastic Four. This new line will be deliberately different than the common modern Marvel collectible sculpture, with features like a rougher surface texture, visible seam lines, and other slightly distressed aspects, such as the method of paint application.

These special New York Comic Con exclusives will be available at four p.m. on Thursday, October 13. Don’t miss your chance to own one of these fantastic statues!

Classic Marvel Characters #1: Spider-Man On Sale Now From Dark Horse Deluxe!

Official Press Release

CLASSIC MARVEL CHARACTERS #1: SPIDER-MAN IS ON SALE NOW!

MAY 4, MILWAUKIE, OR—The 1960s brought a cultural upheaval in music and art, with a host of new icons entering the scene: The Beatles, Andy Warhol, and, of course, Marvel Comics, led by a host of characters that defined modern comic books. Now, these characters will appear just as they did then, in a new line of collectible statuettes from Dark Horse Deluxe.

The first of these collectible statues arrives on sale this week with Spider-Man, and will continue with two alternating series: Classic Marvel Characters and the Fantastic Four. The statues portray these characters just as they originally appeared: Spider-Man is presented with his early “web wing” costume, and Daredevil is in his yellow-and-red uniform, for instance. This new line will be deliberately different than the common modern Marvel collectible sculpture, with features like a rougher surface texture, visible seam lines, and other slightly “distressed” aspects, such as the method of paint application.

“I’ve collected Marvel comics since I was a kid,” Dark Horse president Mike Richardson recalled, “so I am really excited by this opportunity to add these terrific characters to our classic Syroco line. From the beginning, the goal of this program was to give a very unique treatment to the greatest characters in comics, and now we have the good fortune to work with the fine folks at Marvel on some of my absolute favorites.”

Each hand-numbered statuette comes carefully packaged in a custom-tooled, full-color, litho-printed tin box, in a style similar to past releases in the Dark Horse Syroco line. Also included is a small booklet about each character and a vintage-style pin-back button of the character.

Dark Horse’s statuettes are inspired by figurines developed in the 1930s. Now highly prized by collectors, they were often used as advertising premiums featuring famous comic-strip characters. Now known as Syroco figurines, these statuettes are named after both the company that originally produced them and the woodlike resin material from which they were made at the time. Measuring between four and five inches, these statuettes have been sculpted in the original style, described by sculptor Craig Yoe as “primitive but charming.”

Disney’s Uncle Scrooge, the Kellogg’s cereal mascots, Charles Schulz’s Peanuts, stars of DC Comics and Archie Comics, The Simpsons, newspaper-strip greats, and more have all previously appeared in this Syroco-style continuing series of collectible limited-edition sculptures.

Spider-Man, limited to two thousand numbered statuettes, is available for purchase today in finer retailers across the country.
