Paizo Announces a New Core Campaign for the Pathfinder Society

pathfinder logoPaizo Inc., publisher of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, have announced a new campaign mode for its popular Pathfinder Society Organized Play global roleplaying game campaign. This new mode of play, called the Pathfinder Society Core Campaign, will use the basic game established in the bestselling Pathfinder RPG: Core Rulebook to offer a streamlined gaming experience, limited scenario replay, and a simpler entry-point for new players.

The goal is to make the Pathfinder Society more accessible and fun to play as possible. This change has come after feedback from the community, and this provides an easier way for new players to enjoy the RPG.

The standard Pathfinder Society Organized Play campaign, now in its seventh year, remains unchained, offering a wealth of character options drawn from Paizo’s entire library of Pathfinder supplements. Both campaign modes use the same Pathfinder Society scenarios, four-hour fantasy adventures designed to challenge player skill and group cooperation.

In the new Core Campaign, player character options such as race, class, feats, and equipment are limited to those included in the Pathfinder RPG: Core Rulebook and the free Campaign Traits document. Additional treasures, rewards, and character options are unlocked as players complete scenarios, as listed upon the chronicle sheets distributed at the conclusion of each scenario.

A player may play each Pathfinder Society scenario twice, once with a Core Campaign character and once with a standard Pathfinder Society organized play character, allowing a robust replay option for the first time since the launch of the campaign. A character must belong to either the Core Campaign or the standard campaign—not both. At any time a Core Campaign character may transition into the standard campaign, but no standard campaign character may transition to the Core Campaign.

With the launch of Core Campaign, players have four new Pathfinder Society play opportunities each month, as both players and GMs. The Core Campaign, launching today, is open to new and veteran players, and the current campaign remains unchanged.

Modiphius Announces Infinity RPG

infinity rpgInfinity was launched by Spanish company, Corvus Belli in 2005. It actually started life as a homemade RPG setting for the early roleplaying adventures of Alberto, Carlos, Fernando and Gutier, before it evolved into the hugely-popular wargame and miniatures range.

The team’s original RPG sessions featured the ever-controlling AI ALEPH, the Ariadnan isolated colonists, the fearsome Hassassin and the tricky Tohaa, and later grew into their gaming universe. A never-released comic project provided the first concept design, which inspired them to create Infinity the game.

The team have since released an incredibly wide catalogue of miniatures based on their far-future world. Recent favorite additions include the Dire Foes sets, which pit villains and heroes against each other within story-orientated missions, and the successful launch of Corvus Belli’s Infinity Battle Pack, which provides a great introduction to the massive Infinity skirmish game.

The Infinity storyline follows the battles of the Human Sphere against the alien Combined Army, a collection of conquered alien races led by an aggressively resourceful AI. A recent encounter with the enigmatic Tohaa, who want to ally with the Human Sphere against the common enemy, sets the stage for a vast story of conspiracy, war and adventure.

Now, the gaming world is poised to discover the truth behind Infinity. The newly-announced roleplaying game will give players the freedom to adventure in the Human Sphere and beyond, learning a myriad of never-seen-before secrets about the Infinity universe and its strange alien races.

Modiphius teamed up with Corvus Bellis to unite their roleplaying publishing expertise with the fantastic Infinity setting.

Modiphius have announced that the Infinity roleplaying game will use 2d20, the in-house roleplaying system designed by Jay Little for Mutant Chronicles, which encourages cinematic action with its simple mechanics. New rules will introduce hacking, starships, playing characters who are fragments of an AI and much more. The core of the system is a ‘2d20’ roll versus a character’s Attribute and Skill total allowing for multiple successes, and Infinity fans will recognise many other familiar elements which will help translate the tabletop action into the roleplaying world.

Infinity – The Roleplaying Game. Adventures In the Human Sphere & Beyond will be available as a limited pre-order for the Corebook in Q1 – 2015, which will ship in Q2 – 2015. A Kickstarter campaign will follow in the Summer of 2015, with plans to expand the range to include full-colour campaign books, setting books, new player-character and villain figures, floor tiles and much more.

As a special bonus, fans signing up to the pre-order will receive a series of free PDF mini-adventures, which follow in the footsteps of Corvus Belli’s design team’s own early games. The very escapades that spawned the Infinity miniatures game! These will be delivered regularly in the run up to the Kickstarter campaign.

Fantasy Flight Announces Lords of Nal Hutta for Star Wars: Edge of Empire

SWE11_book_leftFantasy Flight Games has announced Lords of Nal Hutta, a new sourcebook for the Star Wars: Edge of The Empire Roleplaying Game that allows you and your friends to escape the oppressive rule of the Empire and engage in devious schemes with the galaxy’s slimiest and most notorious gangsters: the Hutts.

In the 144 pages of Lords of Nal Hutta, game masters are given all the information they need to bring the most corrupt and lawless stretch of the galaxy to life. You get information on over a dozen planets, the history, culture, and points on interest in them.

There’s also new options for character creations with four more species options:

  • Sakiyans are unparalleled killers in the galaxy. Their predatory skill is unmatched, but protecting and defending their families and prides are their top priorities. While most show little to no interest in leaving their homeworld, Saki, those who do leave quickly become renowned as bounty hunters and assassins, finding their skills in high demand among the Hutt kajidics. Sakiyans are also noted for their distinct lack of humor as well as their intellectual and problem-solving abilities; they rarely take kindly to being proven wrong.
  • Niktos are hardy, stoic creatures known for being slaves to the Hutts. Reptilian humanoids with tough, leathery skin and standing roughly the height of an average human, the Niktos are a product of the environment of their harsh home planet, Kintan. All five of the Nikto sub-species are commonly found throughout Hutt Space and the Outer Rim. Most of them operate somewhere between illegal and immoral–doing dirty work for their powerful and devious employers.
  • A feared and mysterious species of mercenaries in the employ of the Hutts, the Ganks are among the most bloodthirsty killers in Hutt Space. Fur-laden carnivorous bipeds, they are clad from head to toe in high-tech battle armor, and are rarely seen in the flesh by non-Ganks. At their best as faceless thugs and enforcers, Ganks are almost exclusively bounty hunters, assassins, and bodyguards for Hutts and others willing to pay cold, hard credits for their unseemly services.
  • Hutts are large, slow-moving, long-living gastropods with remarkable physical and mental strength. Hutts can be found in nearly any profession, though the most infamous Hutts in the galaxy tend to be gangsters and crime lords. The massive slug-like creatures live for hundreds of years, and though they are slow, they are still physically powerful in their own right. Hutts also retain a great deal of societal power from the influence of the Hutt kajidics.

Because the Hutts are tied into black markets, the book also provides profiles for a wide range of new weapons, armor, gear, and even exotic weapons. If you’ve got the credits, you can get it all!

The book also has five modular encounters that run anywhere from thirty minutes to a full session perfect for game masters to run.

The book is scheduled to arrive in the fourth quarter of 2014.
